    Love it,as mutch as I like my hybrid LTRs i am still blown away how well a fresh stock LTR performs with just the cherry bomb and a few other small upgrades

      Agree! It's refreshing to throw a leg over a mostly stock machine and it feels pretty capable.

    Solid bike man. It's very cool when you can re-buy a similar bike that you once had and can build it with the knowledge that you gained from the last one. Good job. 👍

    I went from 3 Walsh Elka Ds450 to Ktm 525 xc in 2017 then sold it due to part's availability and prices,and go to two yfz450r...Yamaha is great but boring and now my dream come true ,an old 06 stock ltr converter to crf450r 2021 and i Love it ....
    The ltr keeps the sport quads legendary times with their look ....

    I had a white 06 ltr and sold it back in 2016. Same as you I didn’t appreciate the bike as much as I do now. I ended up finding a collector grade yellow 07 completely stock/oem. I love the yellow and think it’s
    a great idea for you to get a set of yellow plastics! Nice bike man keep it mint they will be legendary someday.

    I have a yellow 06. Bought it new in August of that year--still have it. I also put Floats on mine, Yosh exhaust, PIM 2, etc. It's an amazing machine. I recently bought a 22 YFZ 450R and you're right, it is corked up from the factory. I'm looking at 2K just to liberate the engine. I think the stock suspension is better than the LTR, though, which was too stiff in front. Finally, your right about the 250R being the best handling quad ever. The LTR comes close, but the R is king. By the way, you didn't mention the exhaust cam. Changing to the Hot Cam is a noticeable upgrade. You can keep the stock intake cam.

    • @PatrickRiggs33
      @PatrickRiggs33  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yep, I agree with everything you said there. Yep I didn't mention the cam, I did that on my original 06'. You got it backwards though. It's the intake cam you change and the exhaust you leave stock.

      @@PatrickRiggs33 Oh you're right, been years since I did it. If you're a quad collector like I am, you should definitely get a KTM (either XC or SX)--I heard you mention it. I rode my 525 XC just yesterday and they are the best all-around quad out of the box. The SX model is a rocket ship, but definitely an MX machine. It's also more rare, I think they only imported like 700.

      @@PatrickRiggs33 The valves will feather & loose compression or rings with wear out before anything else 😂 followed very close by the crank failing. But yours does look low hour so hopefully it will last a long while. I have had 25-30 LTRs over the years and only 1 had 3rd gear issues. That was full Walsh race machine with probably 1000+ hours.

    Bout like my Kawasaki KFX450R. Only bought it cause it was so factory it would be stupid to pass. Had factory/stock everything. Even had the factory battery running strong. I did have to replace the fuel pump finally after doing the FCI and R4 exhaust.
    I can say the KFX most certainly does not ride like my LTR. The LTR feels like I'm driving a Cadillac. So smooth and comfortable and easy to drive harder and faster vs the Kawi that is lighter, more nimble, but less stable due to nimbleness and twitchy steering. I need to do +2 A arms, LTR spindles/geometry to slow the twitch down. Then a precision stabilizer to make it perfect like the LTR. I will say the LTR could use a stabilizer but not a necessity unlike the Kawi.
    I like the Yamaha YFZ450Rs but there are so many of them it's impossible to have a unique build outside of graphics. Let alone what you're gonna pay for one just to have to do the Big 3, 09-14 clutch basket, AIS delete, and etc out of the box just to have a solid bike is crazy.

    I would get the pro design set up all it is you bolt a aluminum ring onto your stock air box then you won’t have to worry if the air filter is on correctly or not if not can suck In dirt

      Pro Design setups are no longer being made. Have to buy used. I use one on our LTZ and like it. That said, the factory Suzuki/Yoshi team ran the stock box/air filter setup and had no issues, and neither do I.

      I believe I ordered them for a 2021 KTM250SXF. I used the large and small spacers together. In reality I should have just went with a +1 stem but these spacers help you dial it in a little more.

    Ive been looking at KTMs as well. The prices are insane. And again parts are getting scarce. Dont want to break something and be screwed. I got my eyeball on a few LTRs on marketplace. Are parts plentiful for these? I might go the YFZ route for safe side. The market is still insane right now.

    • @PatrickRiggs33
      @PatrickRiggs33  Год назад

      Really great questions.
      For me, already owning two relics I wanted something that would be the least headache as possible. It would seem counter intuitive to go buy a first year 2006 Suzuki LTR. In my opinion as long as you buy one that hasn't been used much, is mostly original, and appears original, it is really damn hard to beat an LTR out of the box. Suzuki flew Doug Gust to Japan to develop this quad and working on one again as I am older you realize and appreciate how stout and heavy duty everything is. He pounded on the prototypes until they broke and they came up with fixes. It is truly the best 450 out of the box in my opinion to this day. KTM450SX may edge it out in terms of performance but not longevity/reliability.
      That said, if you get one that has been raced and modded to the hilt, be prepared to spend some dough. I would only consider an LTR if it were original or if I had intentions of building a CRF/LTR hybrid right away.
      The YFZR is the ticket for parts availability, race setup, and overall performance. But again, unless you buy one with the mods you want you are going to spend almost double than what an original LTR would cost. You have to weigh your options. Obviously you see which way I leaned lol.

      @@PatrickRiggs33 yeah I mean I don’t race or do a lot of jumping. I’m 41 and can’t be doing that anymore. My 250R is already sorta of a workout. From what I understand the YFZs have more usable power. But the bad part of the used market for YFZs is making sure one has had the required maintenance. A lot stock looking ones look like they’ve had some shady ownership.
