Yes, Susan, please show us how you train a release. I LUV your podcasts - I learn so much about training dogs (and how to memorize poems - I wish someone had taught me that when I was in public school!).
Hi Susan - yes please to learn how you train the release. We are getting our first family puppy in 3 weeks - thank you soooooooo much for being here sharing alllllll of this gold. Myself, my husband and our kids 10 and 8 are absorbing as much goodness from you as possible. Thank you thank you thank you xxxxx
"Begin with the end in mind" 💙The first thing I taught kids in gymnastics class and the first thing my kids learned in judo lessons was how to fall safely. 😉
Oj, Susan you are THE best!!! I'll tell you about all the people I meet with a dog about your RUclips courses and smart solutions that you have. Thank you so much for everything you teach us🙏🤩❤️❤️❤️❤️
This was probably the biggest lesson I learned as a dog trainer when I first started! Thank you Susan for the awesome podcast ☺️ your analogies are always the best! And yes, a release cue focused episode would be epic!
I taught hold and drop on a table as a game whilst a pup. Then taught short retrieves on a leash. I teach everything like it's a game. I say "that it'll do" when ever I'm finished doing anything. Whether it's play, positions or commands. I don't teach tug. Love your channel Susan❤
Susan, yes please, show us how you do the release!! I've been working on it for a few months with other methods and so far he will still not willingly give back the toy. I love your attitude towards life! I'm a 67 y.o. who loves long difficult hikes, backpacking and (after my upcoming knee replacement) bike riding!
I just love how you find the examples to make us understand what you mean. I look forward to how you teach a release cue. I am absolutely struggling with that one (terrier who just LOVES to tug)
Please, please make a video of your release cue training! I have never been able to teach my dog that with the cookie on the nose approach, so hopefully I can have some progress with your method! Love your podcasts!
Hi Elizabeth! Thanks for the suggestion, in the meantime, here's a blog with the step by step: susangarrettdogagility.com/2019/08/gimmie-dat-tug-the-out-release-is-just-dog-training/
Susan you're amazing! LOVE LOVE LOVE all your videos. Please show us how you train a release. Although my pups will release, its inconsistent. I'd love to see how to learn and do it better. Thanks!
Hi Linda, Susan published a blog on training the toy release a while back, here's the link for you: susangarrettdogagility.com/2019/08/gimmie-dat-tug-the-out-release-is-just-dog-training/
So I need to 'bring in' a high value reward in sooner? While playing a game within H360 my dog Kicki has a tendency to not 'hold her sit cue'. It seems to help to indeed to 'bring in the release followed by something of value', sooner..So funny that whenever I encounter certain issues while doing the games, you seem to come up with the answer in the next coming video..I love these pod casts!
Would love to see your method of release. Would be so helpful at this point of my puppy’s training . Love your videos…working my way through them while we do crate games online.
Such a good explanation of this concept. I like the poem analogy. I'm curious to try this with my own learning, but will use it in with my dogs too, of course. Also, I love your outros. So fun to see the dogs using the skills you have taught them.
Thanks to your great program: "Bring Me" my pup has an excellent retrieve and release! Thank you for reminding me about the back chaining and to start small to play BIG! Another great podcast, thank you!
I would love to know how to teach my dog release. It's one of my problem when I play with her. She'll gave me the toy and will touch my hand with the toy still on her mouth, and when I try to hold on to the toy, she'll start to play tug again. She didn't want to give it to me anymore. 😅 Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge Susan 💙
I’m in recallers but haven’t seen a video on how you teach the release. I now just let my hand go limp and say out and I let go of it and the dog does too most often but if I go to pick the tug up right away he will try and grab it again even though I have not told him to get it. So my fix is I just don’t pick it up right away after he outs it. I have been just not initiating that game again and do something else. How do you do this out training? Thank you,Terri & Guns Guns is 120 pounds Cane Corso who loves tug. I’m a 66 year old military retired lady who is 112 pounds. I try to be very careful with tug and this 11 month old puppy. Thanks!
@lorrainepinkava5628 Susan talks about non food reinforcements in her blog all about teaching the release from a tug --> susangarrettdogagility.com/2019/08/gimmie-dat-tug-the-out-release-is-just-dog-training/ (Julie - DogsThat Team)
I would love to know how to teach the release word, I made the mistake of short tugs and release, my dog thought no fun in that game and blew me off, so we are now having fun games with longer tugs, he likes ice-cream not broccoli as they say:)
...I would also be interested in mentorship. Particularly if I could be connected with other Recallers students who have trained their own service animals. Service animal training is so much more than average training and sometimes I just cannot phantom how to do the back chaining training for a given task I am endeavoring to achieve. I eventually get there on tasks that are super important to me, however I would really love to expedite the process by having a mentor who has gone before. A mentor, or a dozen mentors 🤞🏼, even if they don't need the same task I do, they have plenty of History with Recallers approach to training virtually anything. Sometimes my brain is really creative and my best friend. Sometimes my brain is easily overwhelmed and I just really would like to know who to call on to return my brain to its fabulous creative potential.
Hi @annemiller8962, here's a brilliant video from Susan with the nuances of using the cues - ruclips.net/video/5XDsCd39gCY/видео.html Susan's free ItsYerChoice Summit is a fabulous video on introducing them, and here's where you can jump in for free - recallers.com/iycsummit-join/ Please let us know if we didn't quite understand your question. We'll be sure to have great resources from Susan for you. Thank you so much and have a great day! (Sarah - DogsThat)
