There is actually a small reward for getting the house, and to me it's really worth all the trouble. if you sit on the couch, the photographer takes a picture, and "something" happens when you check the dresser with an open drawer in it. but I won't spoil it for you, i'll just tell you that it was REALLY funny. Enjoy!
That "something" also appears in Mother 3 in a storage closet!

I always found that "something" to be equally funny and disturbing, considering all the theories and possibilities surrounding Giygas. I always took it as a joke masking something dark. But of course that's just me!

I unintentionally did this challenge without thinking about it!
I remember playing this game a long time ago. It wasn't the first run, but surely one i did beat.
I remember grinding so much until i was able to buy that house, a lot of punks got their ass kicked that day, and because of that, i was able to reach level 14ish... Took me more than an hour or so!
Even when i bought it for the first time, looking broken and ruggish, i still felt a sense of acomplishment, lol.
And all of that before Frank haha!

@gamerperson9965 I have NO idea! I was younger, though, and a stubborn little teen, so for me, I would try to do as much as I can in a game, like for example this house, it is possible to buy it before Frank, so i tried.
If I could do something and that something was possible, then I would waste all my time trying to do it.
I did it similarly as a kid, though I wasn't stubborn enough to remain there, once I'd leveled enough that Peaceful Rest Valley was manageable, I left it behind, but with strong intent to come back as soon as I got the money. Was convinced there had to be something really cool there. Itoi trolled my 9-year-old self the day I bought that house, didn't really regret it though, I guess I also enjoyed the levels and exploration at that age.
I cant wait until someone is crazy enough to get level 99 just fighting the sharks in onnet. some crazy guy out there has to have done that to prove a point
I’ve done lv 20 and 35 in peaceful rest valley it make the game fly by
Extra tip for fighting the Sharks, they move awkwardly and slowly enough that it's fairly easy to pull one at a time and ensure solo encounters, anyone who's played one of most MMORPGs will get this. As long as you're 4-5 and they don't call for help, it's pretty much an auto win, great way to pull ahead early, especially for those without savestates.
Also, note for the post-Captain Strong 'Easy' difficulty, getting shroom'd by the Ramblin' Evil Mushrooms and selling it off to the Healer could be a decent strat there, though you'll be frustrated walking around with rotated controls, fast-forward is less viable there, so potentially not even worth it on emulator.

Gotta do a run where u buy the house before fighting frank, buy all the items in the store in winters with jeff alone, and getting all the 1/128 items
I once did a speedrun version of buying the Onett's house, basically doing it before the dad call, which amounts to nearly 2 hours. It eliminates the monotonous long grind, and takes a bit of routing.

This challenge was easier than sword of kings (I have been grinding the sword of kings for hours and all of my party members have leveled up 75+ and I have a ton of cash just by fighting lots of starman supers)
The only challenge I have ever attempted in this game is the sword of Kings drop. I was thinking it might be cool if you did a tier list video on Earthbound challenges. Tbh I wasn’t even aware of this challenge. Would be cool to have a full video explaining some of the more popular challenges. It would not necessarily need to be you playing through a challenge like you did in this video, but just a higher level this was fun to do, not worth your time (bragging rights only), insane could be You’re a masochistic. Is Nuzlocke a thing for Earthbound? I know it is in Pokémon but idk about Earthbound.

EB Nuzlocke doesn't sound too bad. I get the feeling I'd spice it up with an additional challenge of no PSI-based healing allowed, further delivering the feeling of survival.
That isn't a challenge- getting the Trex bat AND COIN before leaving winters as Jeff on an actual SNES cart thats something~

My English was nonexistent back then, I could not understand where or that to do. so I would constantly get stuck...
I loved the game so much that even though I didn't know how to leave the first city, I still wanted to play it so much. I was so stuck and I could not figure out that to do, I thought that I had to buy the house. I managed to get all the money by selling cookies dropped by the enemies. It took me the whole day, but I finally had enough money to buy it and pay the seller, I remember running to call my sister to show her that I had the money for the house. When I pressed "Yes," we jumped and danced with joy.
And then... the disappointment.
It was a life lesson for me. This game turned me into an adult too quickly.
Meritocracy, my ass.
The game taught me a hard lesson about capitalism.

I love these videos. I said it before but I didn’t say it well. I would love an Earthbound playlist separate from the Earthbound play throughs. Speaking of Onette, I’m curious how many found the secret Treehouse in the game? I never found it as a kid it wasn’t until I saw the Completionist play it that I ever even knew it existed.
I found it the first time I played, but ONLY because I was 6 years old at the time and I was so lost from the jump of the game that I remember seeing it from the cliff during the intro scene and wanted to find it when I finally was able to explore the town part. Haha
I also first played the game when young, though the strat-n-sniff guide led the way, so it was no mystery to me.

I cant believe im just learning this now... i always thought money in EB was strickly leveling... every level = get some money, and at some point you get so much it doesnt matter and its commical at that, call dad, "hey i see you reached level 99, my paycheck just hit so heres your allowance - 2 billion dollars, im going to bed..."

I somehow a few game plays back got a meteorite piece by grinding I cannot remember what monster it was but dang! I was shocked I sold it bought the house.

This game has a prequel called Mother 1/Earthbound Beginnings , it was an Nes title and was supposed to be relased outside of Japan , but when the Snes was released older consoles became the thing of the past .
There you play as Ninten , Lloyd , Ana and Teddy to defeat Guigue and his army of Starmen and other alien beings .
i bought that house when i saw a kid. i thought it took forever back then. but it doesnt.

Eh, I'd rather just go for the classic challenge of T-Rex Bat in the first shop in Winters as Jeff, similar sort of grind but rewarding with stats (and bonus early Jeff levels which is hard to hate). Not that you actually NEED it, though I should note it was kinda worthwhile in the romhack Mother 2 Deluxe Edition where everything is going to kill you and you always welcome some help.

@@BenSliwa just made it to threed! I think it's going pretty well. I keep getting caught up by school so I haven't played in a bit but i'm glad I did the challenge. It was a looooot of fighting sharks but it was honestly kind of meditative.
