Im surprised Double Dragon Gaiden wasn't mentioned that game is phenomenal Double Dragon was my first ever beat em up experience
Streets of rage 4 best ever. 20 playable characters, like 6 difficulties settings, Mr x nightmare. The arcade cabinets sending you into 16 bit! Best ever 🎉
Not to mention also that apparently Streets of Rage 4 sold about 2.5 million copies (including digital I believe) worldwide since release. It goes to show that Beat 'em Ups are here to stay, people love them to this day. My personal favorite is Shredder's Revenge, closely followed by SoR4, but also Ninja Saviors is absolutely amazing (and this comes from someone who unfortunately didn't play the first one on SNES even back then, I think my local rental store simply never had it).
It's almost as though gamers generally enjoy games with gameplay that is easy to get the hang of, satisfying, and fun. Who knew?
@lyrand6408 I agree with u as I grew up from the Double Dragon arcade days and I remember playing Sega Golden Axe arcade it was awesome and then later on to get Golden Axe at home on my Mega Drive was so like wow then came Streets of Rage 1 that was good fun 2 player action with my cousin the music was good then SoR2 my all time favourite just super awesome man Yuzo he is a god with MD/GEN music
I can't stop playing SOR4, the combos are so fun to pull off. I hope Dotemu get to make the next Golden Axe 😄😄😄
That would be awesome!
Altered Beast too.
Fight N Rage.....chefs kiss !
A genre near and dear to my heart. Have played the 9 shown and really dig each one. Final Vendetta is the one I go back to the most probably because it reminds me of Final Fight which is my favorite in the genre of all time. Excellent video Jim. Bravo Sir.
Final Vendetta really surprised me with how fun it is, and challenging.
What a glorious time we live in with new beat em ups like these coming out!
Channel keeps improving, love to see it
Thank you!
My Top 5 Beat Em Ups:
1. TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge
2. Batman Returns (SNES)
3. Streets of Rage 4
4. Double Dragon: Rise of the Gaiden
5. Castle Crashers
Check out MOTHER RUSSIA BLEEDS. Mature, violent, and twisted. Plays great with a ridiculously pounding soundtrack. The freaky club level has to be one of the best beatemup levels ever.
Yea its so satisfying
It's on my want list.
It’s great to see people still love beat em ups as I grew up from the Double Dragon arcade days and I remember playing Sega Golden Axe arcade it was awesome and then later on to get Golden Axe at home on my Mega Drive was so like wow then came Streets of Rage 1 that was good fun 2 player action with my cousin the music was good then SoR2 my all time favourite just super awesome man Yuzo he is a god with MD/GEN music
My first beat 'em up was NES Double Dragon and I loved it but yeah, when I finally got to play Streets of Rage I was blown away.
It's great that Benny will be forever immortalised in Jitsu Squad.
Great video and taste in games. Don’t usually comment on videos but wanted to say that your videos are great and keep them coming! I’ve been in Japan, in Sendai, for about 15 years and have done a lot of used game hunting here. Cheers from another aging retro game gaijin!
Great review
Awesome video! Thank you so much :D
My pleasure. Thanks for watching!
I’m a big fan of beat um ups and have played most of what you reviewed extensively.
A beat um up I really enjoyed and one that often gets overlooked because I don’t think it ever had a physical release on any platform is “Castle Crashers”. This game is available on Switch and just about every digital platform since the XB360. It’s filled with great combos, lots of character customization, unlockable characters, modes of difficulty and just oozes personality and comedy of the “adolescent” variety.
Another one I really enjoyed was Scott Pilgrim vs the World. It got a physical release on the Switch and it is excellent if you are a fan of the River City Ransom games of the NES era.
Hey Jim, I dig what you’ve been doing with the rebranding of your channel. Looking forward to future videos on Mad Panic Gaming. Wishing you much success in 2024!
Much appreciated. Thanks for watching!
Going to add all of these to the wishlist.
Street of rage 4 is the best, i love playing with Shiva.
Awesome, totally agree
I'd love to see a 3D beat em up, it has worked before i.e Die Hard arcade, Dynamite Decka, Zombie Revenge.
That would be awesome. Personally, I have a soft spot for Fighting Force and Gekido.
Sor 4 and the 2 tmnt are the best for me hopefully someday we can finally get xmen
Yes! And not as part of an Arcade 1Up please.
Awesome list, already had them all, such great games, you might want to look into the Take Over, pretty cool game
That's on my list of games I need to play.
Great video! I really need to get the physical of Fight n Rage for my Switch collection. I keep hearing about how good it is.
It's so good! Highly recommended if you like beat em ups even just a little bit.
If I had to personally rank these games in my collection: 1. Shredder's Revenge (The Dream Of Every Nostalgic Coin-Op Kid), 2. Cowabunga Collection, 3. Streets Of Rage 4, 4. Capcom Beatemup Bundle, 5. The Ninja Saviors, 6. Final Vendetta, 7. Fight 'N' Rage, 8. River City Girls 2, 9. Jitsu Squad.
That's exactly the same way I rate them
Of this list, I have Ninja Saviors, SoR4, TMNT collection, Shredder's Revenge and Capcom Beat'em Up Bundle. All of them are great! I like to try the ones I don't have one of these days.
If you like a good beat 'em up, I highly recommend any of the ones I covered here.
I bought TMNT Shredders Revenge cartridge on Amazon for my son's Christmas gift. It's wrapped and hidden till Christmas morning. 😅😅😅. I am using Raphael, he will use Leonardo.
I’m not gonna talk about the best beat ‘em up ever made, but I played Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game on switch for the first time since it was out on PS3, and man.
I know it was made on a severe time budget, and given that constraint it turned out quite good, however it needed so much more time for the gameplay to be fleshed out into something more satisfying.
There’s a lot of love for the genre present in there but there’s also a lot of frustrating stuff that needed to be fixed.
Too bad it never got a proper sequel, or that they didn’t get extra time to revamp it for the complete edition.
Also I think Scott Pilgrim deserves a lot of credit for helping kickoff the current landscape of Beat em Ups, for one thjing Jonathan Lavigne worked on Scott Pilgrim and eventually would go on to make TMNT Shredder's Revenge, so I think it's quite significant. Also for as good as Streets of Rage 4 ended up being, there were a lot of Beat em Ups in the scene, including River City Girls already, and its announcement came mid-way through the development of what was kind of billed as the spiritual SOR 4 that we didn't think we'd be getting, The Takeover. If anything SOR 4 was a response to the growing resurgence of Beat em Ups, not the cause.
When I saw Final Vendetta for a moment I thought it could be a remake of Konami's classic Vendetta"Crime Fighters2" I really liked Konami's Beat Em Ups, especially Violent Storm!
Have you tried Wulverblade? The Switch version has some bad loading times but the beat em up action is A+!
Haven't tried it yet, but it's on my list to play.
Street of rage 4 was a dream come true for me.
I still play a lot of the old ones but haven’t tried Shredders revenge. Gotta check it out!
It's an instant classic.
Fight'N Rage is so awesome!! I play a lot with my son and we beat the game multiple times. I highly recommand to try The TakeOver. It's one of the best I played and really pays tribute to classic games in that style! I'm sure you'll love it!
That's on my list!
@@MadPanicGaming Nice! Good to know!😁
Street of Rage 4 is the best without a doubt and without competition, how can you compare Final Vendetta with Street of Rage 4? Are you comparing the White House with a one-bedroom apartment? I also love NInja Saviors and Double Dragon Gaiden.
I like the gameplay, visuals, and soundtrack in Final Vendetta. I love SoR4 of course, but it does get a bit boring for me after a while unless I have a second player available. I don't get bored with Final Vendetta, but it's a much shorter game and needs an update.
@@MadPanicGaming Please play Street of rage 4 in survivel mode its addictive , also try the New Double Dragon Gaiden and Mayhem Brawler both are one of the best beat en ups release in the last few years I'm sure you'll love then.
Final Vendetta is extremely deep and challenging, it just doesn't have the flashy moves and long combos that SoR4 has but FV among the finest beat em ups ever produced.
some of these I have digitally but been wanting to upgrade to physical, like streets of rage 4 and TMNT shredder's revenge since they have sets that include the DLC so figure I just do that. I do already have Belt Action Collection (the first one I upgraded from digital for!) it's pretty solid. same with cowabunga collection had to grab that one physically soon as I could! all the classic TMNT games on console and gameboy (and the original NES version, if you really want to go back to it) plus a ton of extras like old ads and tons of behind the scenes design documents, even translated from the original Japanese! definitely going to have to check out some of these others, though.
I can't believe that he format astrix and oblix skap them all 1&2 Scott pelgrim vs the world and double dragon neon
My top 3
Fight N Rage
The Ninja Saviors: Return Of The Warriors
Final Vendetta
Streets of Rage 2 is my all time favorite beat em up. One beat em up I recommend is called The Takeover. You can get digitally and physically for the PS4. It was also developed by one person.
Just got double dragon advance. Amazing
Some of these games I’ve never even heard of, and I’m going to do some shopping now to buy a few. Ha ha it’s a new era, of loneliness..ah gosh.. Golden Axe I always thought was fun. You’re too pure, MPG!
I do my best.
Check out The Takeover and Double Dragon Neon. Both of them are phenomenal games very true to the classic style beat em ups
We need a new golden axe!
Great video! What was the name of the game at the beginning of your video that’s bird’s eye view platform? It looks really interesting to play.
The Hong Kong Massacre
What the heck! No Scott Pilgrim???!!!
Street of rage 4 is the best by far the survivel mode It's addictive, I already have almost a thousand hours of gameplay, , shredder's revenge is also great but I get tired quickly and survival mode isn't very good, i love fight and rage and the new Double Dragon Gaiden.
I'd like to see someone like Dotemu take on some of Sega's other franchises, or perhaps even a new Shinobi or a Super Shinobi remake.
If anyone could do them justice, it'd be Dotemu. I'd actually like to see what Natsume Atari could do with some other old properties, they've been crushing it with the remakes of the old 16-bit Natsume games.
Shinobi oh yes!
I have it too on eShop sale wanted on cart
i would say both river city girls game are my opinion the best beat um up series on the switch.
They are indeed awesome.
Why hasn’t the switch remade or ported “Viewtiful Joe” from the GameCube?
Only have the TMNT Shredders Revenge game. I wil look into the others maybe as wel. Thinking about Streets of Rage mainly. Does it have a save function btw? Cause it's always uncertain with these types of games when they save. TMNT so far was a blast to play. Though I wil say that my wife and I moved on to play Mario Wonder. We are just casual gamers these days. Used to be a pretty competitive and competent player, but just don't have the time or hours to really get into the thick of these games to improve enough, if you get what I mean.
Thanks for the share, appreciated. Always fun to see and hear about games like these. They are more rare these days then back when I was younger. So it's nice to see they are making sort of a comeback. :D
Close your eyes and pretend its Marc from Classic Game Room
I get that a lot.
Is that MaxillianDood?? 😆 10:41
Yes, he and his dog made it into the game.
I honest don't know why beat em ups ever went away in the first place. It is always a genre that gamers love to play. Same reason I never understood why co op went away for a long time until the first Gears of War came along, then it made a comeback.
For the console generation between ps1 thru ps2, it was like beatem ups and co op games were long forgotten. All the focus was on 3D platformers and single player experiences.
Sad thing is, there are a few decent beat 'em ups on the PS1 and Saturn, but a lot of them were only released in Japan. At least we got Fighting Force, Gekido, and Die Hard Arcade.
Also, with these beat em up collections, I always feel a bit unsatisfied with the difficulty settings and number of continues. Fore example I love the challenge of King of Dragons on the SNES cause it forces you to get good enough at the game. Beating it on "Hard" feels so good but when playing the arcade I have a harder time knowing if I'm doing well unless I'm going for a 1cc or something (Which is not the level of dedication im looking for either)
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE check out "Dawn of the Monsters" - it's a beat 'em up where you play as giant Kaiju, it's absolutely incredible. It's on all major platforms including Switch!
That's on my want list. So many games, so little time.
@@MadPanicGaminglol right!? Don't even get me started on my backlog...
I Love Shmups and Beat Em Up's!!!!!!
Powered Gear = Armoured Warriors. Sequel to Cyberbots. Wicked game and great list thanks!
Curious what you might think of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
Double Dragon Gaiden is fantastic, check it out
It's on my list!
Is rise of the dragons not on the switch? Because that game is AMAZING!
Double Dragon Gaiden? Yes, it's on the Switch, I just haven't gotten around to playing it.
Only one that is really any food is Streets Of Rage 4 and Turtles is OK, the rest give them nah no good
We want final fight remaster 😅
I'd be down for that.
Double dragon gaiden and double dragon neon
You should try Scott Pilgrim if you haven't played it yet
Could someone say me the name of the game in 0.56 -> 0.59. Thx :)
EDIT : I finally found, it's "The Hong Kong Massacre"
I almost all but DD
As much well deserved controversy that surrounds it, I do hope Paprium comes to Switch one day.
You cant take this serious when double dragon gaiden is not on the list.
Gamename from time 0:57?
The Hong Kong Massacre
Probably TMNT
Are these switch exclusive?
No, they are also available on other platforms either digitally or physically.
@@MadPanicGamingdo you prefer switch over the ps5?
These aren’t exclusive for Nintendo Switch their on Steam Xbox PlayStation
Never said they were exclusive to Switch. Also, you liked your own comment.
These aren’t exclusive to Nintendo Switch you call the best beat ‘em up games everyone should know the 3rd party games are always the best games not the exclusive games
Never said these are exclusive to the Switch, just that they're the best available for the Switch.
Aye-yaye-yaye.
Honestly, they RUINED Jitsu Squad with that gimmick. I was really looking forward to playing as one of those charming animal characters... until I found out they weren't charming animals, but CURSED HUMANS. I cannot stress this enough how much this RUINS the characters. You have actually unique and interesting characters, but then you shove humans into them, which is the absolute most cliche thing you can do with a hero. These days, EVERY hero needs to be human even when it shouldn't be, and honestly, it's frustrating.
...But not as frustrating as Fight N' Rage's absolutely offensive story. Even beyond the fact the game is basically a furry-killing simulator unless you play as Ricardo, I REALLY hate stories that bring up all the horrible things humanity has done, and claims that the solution is that humanity should be ALLOWED to do these things and non-humans just have to deal with it and s@$% our c@$%. I can guarantee that if another species did what we did, they would be the villains and actually receive punishment. What really makes it even worse is that the furries bsically do not get a happy ending. They get wiped out (for the most part) just for trying to fight back against a race of narcissistic parasites and get utterly leveled while humans get away with their crimes with little punishment, and it's infuriating to see this level of narcissism. Garbage like this is why I'm misanthropic, and if we keep down this path that "humans are above all other life and all other life has to suffer and die for our sins (and also y@$% in hell, furf@&$!)," it will eventually kill us.
If they ever do make a sequel to Fight N' Rage, they need to DRASTICALLY change the course of the story. Otherwise, I hope it never gets made.
El mejor de todos es SoR4. Punto
