Is this possible? Setup a Cloner Alliance ultra with a FIRESTICK with additional memory via OTG cable? If so what type of OTG cable will I need? As always your help is much appreciated.
No you can not connect it with an OTG cable. The only way to connect a Fire Stick to the Cloner Alliance will be to connect the Fire Stick to the HDMI IN input of the Cloner Alliance box and output to the TV. Now if you have more than one device that you want to use with the Cloner Alliance box, I would recommend getting a 4K HDMI switch.

are you using USB 3.0 flash drives? If you have a usb flash drive or SDcard drive formatted for Internal, can you remove it and use it on a another Firestick Max along with all the apps transferred to it?
I'm using a 3.0 USB flash drive. No, you can not remove it and use it on another 4K max once it's formatted as Internal storage. Part of the app is still installed on the internal storage of the 4K max.
@@DJsTutorials Thanks for the reply. I am wondering if this external USB flash drive while formatted for Internal works the same way the SDcard slot for a FireTV 2nd Gen worked. It did not copy the full app. None of the data transferred to to the SDcard slot. If an app had a couple hundred megs of data it stays on the Internal drive and just a small amount of the app transferred to the SDcard. It helps a little but still takes up a lot space on the Internal . The New Fire Cube I heard has 16gigs of Internal drive. That's the way to do it.
@@DJsTutorials I didn't have a USB 3.0. I must have thousands of 2.0. I did have a SDcard USB that looks similar to a USB flash drive. The SDcard has a rating of "10" for speed. So far it appears to be working fine. One thing just like my older FireTV's 2nd Gen (metal box) the boot up takes a little longer. I get the fire screen and all the apps displayed but it take another 30 seconds or so to get all the apps recognized and available.
I have a fire stick 4k max,I have the otg cable and a hub.i formatted a flash drive for internal storage but it still states the original info ,doesn't show an increase of internal space. Why not?
The internal storage does not combine the two together. It will show you how much internal storage you have and how much on the flash drive. Also keep in mind that, even though some apps are able to be installed on the flash drive, not all of the app is installed there. Application on one, data on the other.
I would use it as External Storage. Some apps will actually see the external drive if you go in the settings of the app where you select the download folder to save the files.
Good information sir. I have an old 32GB microsd that I used in my drone, formatted this to FAT32 on a windows 11 laptop. using the same usb OTG that you have, and have a USB microsd/sdcard reader where I inserted the FAT32 32GB microsd and plugged this to my OTG. went to firestick and usb and shows external usb with about 31GB space. It did not prompt me whether to format as external or device storage. installed a couple of apps - Downloader, Netflix and NordVPN and checked my usb drive and nothing in there. I thought that it would install apps directly to my external USB device. Is there a way to force the firestick to format this as a device storage. Please advise and thank you.
Thank you Georgiejr69! Some times it does that when you connect a USB drive that is formatted as FAT32. It does not show you the option to choose internal or external. You should though be able to format it as internal storage under USB Drive in My Fire TV. Now, when it comes to apps, not all are able to be installed to the USB drive. It depends on the app if the developer allows installation to internal shared storage. You can though install any app to the USB drive. Just follow the steps in the video starting around 9:45. Let me know if you have any questions.
@@DJsTutorials how do you manually format as internal storage if it only shows the firestick internal space and under external space "no USB storage detected"
i got my stuff all connected and working just fine my only issue is i dont know how much stuff is on my external storage like there is no progress on it it just say 120/121 gigs (using SanDisk 128gigs) fire stick im using is (Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote (includes TV controls), HD streaming device) not sure if it got something to do with what firestick im using and trying to add ethernet cable with otg also doesnt work for me dont know what im missing here but wifi is fine
To view which apps are installed on the USB drive you can do that a couple of way. One way is to go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > click on "Show" and select USB Only or you can go to Settings > My Fire TV > USB Drive > and under "Show" it should say USB only. Not all Ethernet adapters will work with the OTG cable or the Fire Stick. That could be the reason why it's not working. What kind of Ethernet adapter did you get?
@@DJsTutorials ty for replying. this is the ethernet i got ( UGREEN Ethernet Adapter for Chromecast, Micro USB to RJ45 Ethernet Converter with USB Power Supply for Chromecast Ultra 3 2 1 Audio, TV Stick 4K 2, Google Home Mini, Raspberry Pi Zero, etc. 3.3ft) now i just realize its said tv stick 4k 2 which prolly mean fire stick 4k max? i already ordered 4k max and see how it goes will update soon as i get it.
I ordered several OTG adaptors on amazon, ZYF is brand name. They are not working as plug and play and sometimes don't even show the USB attached at all. Some of the adaptors work some of the time. Have you seen this? I had them send me replacements and same issue. Any suggestions. I can't imagine they are all broken. Fire TV 4K Max not the newest one Sandisk 128GB 3.0
Resolved, it was the adaptors, I tried all 6 right angle OTG adaptors with no results. I ordered the cable OTG adaptor and it works perfectly. The right angle could not handle 128GB.
Okay do i have two usb sticks, one for internal and the other for external. I have movie apps that have options to download movies and i am trying to get them to download to external but it won't, it won't give me permission to choose external drive. I'm able to see the drive but it won't let me choose it as default.
Not sure if you are asking if you should use two drives or you are using two drives. Which apps are you using so I can try it out and let you know what's the best way to go about it. Also, are you using a 4K Max or another Fire Stick?
@@DJsTutorials I'm using the 4k Max. For example, i use CinemaHD, TeaTV and other movie apps and also ADM Downloader. They all let me download to the default download directory which is the FireStick but it won't let me choose the external drive, it let's me find the external drive but it doesn't let me press the okay button to choose it. It's almost like it's not giving 3rd party apps permission to write to external. I'm using two drives and they are set up for internal and external just like you did on your vid.
Hi DJ, I have fire stick 4k Max and needed extra storage. Followed your steps but it didn't work. When I plug in USB drive there's no pop up message. Even formatted it to FAT32 on my home pc. Don't know what to do now. Thanks Judy
It is possible that it didn't show a notification since it's formatted as FAT32. Try going to the Settings > My Fire TV > and the second option should be USB Drive. If you click on it, you should have the option in there to format it as Internal Shared storage. Let me know how it goes.
The only other thing that I can think of is the OTG cable not working properly which is rare. Do you have a File manager app installed by any chance? Like X-plore, that you can use to check to see if it finds the USB drive.
Can I record live tv from a channel on my IPTV app on the external shared storage or do need to record on internal storage and move the file to the external storage???
Well depends on which app you are using, like if you are using the Smarters App or TiviMate you can change it in the recording settings where you want to save the recordings and just point it to the external storage. Which app are you using?
@@dariograna1 That all depends on what you want to use the drive for. If you want to use it so you can move apps to the USB drive, then Internal. If you want to use it for recordings from certain apps, or if you plan on putting music, movies, or pictures on it so can you can view/listen to them, leave it as External.
Thanks! Yes mainly recording of live TV using Tivimate. How would you then access these recordings and play them? Via ES file explorer and with media player like vlc?
@@dariograna1 All you need to do is, in Tivimate, go to the recording settings, and change the folder where the recordings are stored to the External drive. Then just play the recordings within Tivimate or Eject the USB drive and play the files on a computer.
All you need to do is connect the USB drive to the USB port of the TV and you should get a message that it found it. Then you can go to Settings > Device & Software > USB > and select Format to Internal Storage.
I just tried it on my 4K Max using IP Vanish and used the USB drive (formatted as Internal shared storage) with no issues. Which VPN service are you using? Is the USB drive formatted as Internal or External storage? Let me know.
i am not getting both options. i have fire stick lite and when i plug it in it says incompatible and to format but just to format no otion for external or interan. i want only external to watch vidoes on usb
For the Fire Stick Lite, you will only get the option to format it as Internal Storage. If you are just planning on using the USB drive to access movies that are already on there, there is nothing else you need to do. If you have X-plore File Manager installed, you can go in the app and see your USB drive and content.
There is a way to remove them using ADB but I do not recommend it to people. To many commands commands to type and if you use the wrong command you can brick the Fire Stick.
@@DJsTutorials Maybe a cut and past each command would be easier if we had a list of them. Does the removal of any of the amazon apps cause an issue with the performance of the FireTV/stick?
What size is the USB Drive? When you say it disappears, even if you restart the Fire Stick it doesn't see the drive at all? If you remove the USB drive and connect it again, does it see it then? The apps need to be reinstalled because the drive was formatted again when you reconnected it to the Fire Stick, did some move to Internal storage? Give me a little more info please.
@@DJsTutorials Thanks so much for your help. I’m using a 256 USB 3.1 thumb drive. After successfully migrating quite a few apps, at some point, in settings, it indicates no external storage, like it doesn’t exist. In ‘manage applications’ the migrated apps have a check mark but also an indication they can’t be launched. When trying to launch the missing app it ask if you want to install. I have successfully employed a remedy that I heard of along the way in my research by turn the Firestick off, disconnecting the power, waiting a few minutes before reconnecting. Now the external USB storage reappears intact and I can once again migrate apps from internal storage. I did notice that I when put Netflix on the external storage and got a message that appeared for a brief moment indicating something to the effect it wouldn’t be happy running off the external device. I was able to launch Netflix as well as all the other apps I migrated without any perceivable issues. Now that the Firestick acknowledges the USB external storage, everything thing is back in order. I guess, as it applies to me, “a little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing”😂 Thanks again for taking the time to help.
That is a little odd. You are using a USB Flash Drive and not an SD Card right? Is the Fire Stick powered from a wall outlet using the power adapter that it came with and not from another power adapter or the TVs USB port right?
My question please, what is gonna happen when the internal storage is full of Data Files "because they will not be accumulated in the external drive by default". How can we solve this !!??
I never get the option to format as device storage. I only can format as external. What am I doing wrong. Have tried 3 different flash drives all at different sizes from 32gb to 128
Are the USB drives that you are using new or you have you used them before on other devices? When you go in Settings > My Fire TV > USB (don't press OK on USB), does it show the drive as available External Space?
@@DJsTutorials I figured it out. For whatever reason I had to format my drives as exfat before plugging them in. As soon as I did, I got the option to format as internal storage. Good to go now
No it won't work on the Fire TV 4K Stick because it's running Fire OS 6 and not Fire OS 7 (Android 9) which is required in order to recognize Internal Shared Storage.
Ok. The 4K Stick does not support Internal/External storage like the 4K Max. That is why you can only see the external storage using xplore or other File Manager apps.
@@DJsTutorials ok thanks - I can't update to 7 as it says I'm up to date. The external usb disappears at tge drop of a hat, can't get it to stay visable any where. I have switched off developer option and still can't get the external usb to be stable. I can't see what else I can do now.
Just use a USB drive that is set as External Storage and have the file in there. Then you can access the file by using a File manager app or a media player app like Kodi or Plex.
Yes. This does work for the 2020 3rd-gen Fire TV Stick and the Fire TV Stick Lite. They both come with Fire OS 7 (Android 9) which allows you to add external/internal storage. I do have another video for the 3rd-gen Fire TV Stick but it's pretty much the same as this one.
Is the drive that you are trying to use formatted as FAT32 file system? Connect the drive to a computer and check it to see if it is or not. If it is FAT32 try restarting the Fire Stick and the connect the drive.
I have 64gig added which contains most of my firetv apps despite this Netflix keeps saying not enough storage space to update. My drive has more than 50 gig still Can anyone give me a solution to this problem
You need to keep in mind that even though you added 64GB as Internal shared storage, not all of it is available as internal storage. When you move/install an app to the USB drive, not all of the files are moved there. The Application files will be moved to the USB drive but the Data and the Cache files will remain on the internal drive. The more apps you install, the less free storage you will have left for internal storage. I will check how much free storage you have left for internal storage. Not the USB drive. Most likely you are below a Gig like 600 - 800 MB.
When you say reporting the storage you mean you see it in "Settings > About > Storage"? but no USB Drive option under "MY FIRE TV" or you use a File Manager App to see the drive?
@@DJsTutorials That's correct. I haven't gotten around to installing a file manager app due to the process involved. For example, I downloaded Disney+ but there is no option to move it to storage. I've tried Samsung 32, and 128GB thumb USB drives. Thanks for your quick response.
A lot of apps will not be installed on the USB drive because the developer set it like that. Just to make sure, you are using a 4K Max and not a 4K Stick, correct? Also, is this a new device that you just got or you had it for a while?
No you are not stupid! Sometimes, the OTG cable that you use or the thumb drive may not work properly with the Fire Stick. Where are you getting stuck? When you insert the thumb drive you don't see the pop-up notification? Can you let me know so I can help you out?

are you using USB 3.0 flash drives?
If an app had a couple hundred megs of data it stays on the Internal drive
and just a small amount of the app transferred to the SDcard.
I want to download movies and tv shows directly to external storage, how would you set up the 4K max?
Thank you so much for that reply, sir.

Hi. To do all this, do we NEED "XPlore? Also, is max storage for the thumb drive allowed only 64GB, or can I go larger? Thanks!

It's not showing the option of USB Drive anywhere. Should I restart fire stick default. At a loss!
Yes, restart the Fire Stick but don't connect the USB drive. Once it boots up, then connect the USB drive. What kind and size USB drive are you using?
Still not working. Restarted then I also reset factory default. Using SanDisk 3.0 128g
How should we format the usb stick for this when prompted? External or internal storage?
@@dariograna1 That all depends on what you want to use the drive for. If you want to use it so you can move apps to the USB drive, then Internal. If you want to use it for recordings from certain apps, or if you plan on putting music, movies, or pictures on it so can you can view/listen to them, leave it as External.
Thanks! Yes mainly recording of live TV using Tivimate. How would you then access these recordings and play them? Via ES file explorer and with media player like vlc?

i am not getting both options. i have fire stick lite and when i plug it in it says incompatible and to format but just to format no otion for external or interan. i want only external to watch vidoes on usb
For the Fire Stick Lite, you will only get the option to format it as Internal Storage.
I guess, as it applies to me, “a little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing”😂

I have 64gig added which contains most of my firetv apps despite this Netflix keeps saying not enough storage space to update. My drive has more than 50 gig still
Can anyone give me a solution to this problem
You need to keep in mind that even though you added 64GB as Internal shared storage, not all of it is available as internal storage. When you move/install an app to the USB drive, not all of the files are moved there. The Application files will be moved to the USB drive but the Data and the Cache files will remain on the internal drive. The more apps you install, the less free storage you will have left for internal storage. I will check how much free storage you have left for internal storage. Not the USB drive. Most likely you are below a Gig like 600 - 800 MB.
