    Thank you Jay for all the effort you put into these presentations! In think in this video, you did me a tremendous favor. The last few months, I’ve been watching different videos analyzing HiFi gear and was contemplating an incremental upgrade path from my current system. The price ranges you mentioned in this video were so far and above anything attainable, that I’m now beginning to realize that maybe I should give up my high end audio ambitions and maybe spend a portion of that time attending concerts and volunteering.

      Dude, that's like saying I will never own an M3 because a Porsche GT3 exists. Or what's the point of a GT3 when there are Ferraris. Set a budget, make an automatic savings plan with online banking, and set a goal and find a combination that emotionally moves you, once you find it, don't change a single thing. I've gone through so many iterations of my system where it has brought me to tears, but then I got greedy and wanted even more, then I changed something and I gained in some areas but lost in others, then I had to chase again. The lesson I've learned is that once I find something great, I should not change a 'single' thing for six months. I just need to learn to be content and listen and live with the system. My personal 'end game' is a Gryphon Diablo 300, used. To me, that is the maximum I would want to spend on an amp, and if I'm getting speakers I'm going to build them myself, maybe a Troels design or Elsinore with those Purifi drivers.

      Now I spend on studio monitor, near field listening, don't need to fill the room, listen much lower db, easier to tweak than standard audiophile setup.

      I was wrong to express my frustrations the way I did with the tremendous costs of the high end equipment you demo, considering these systems can be looked at as reference systems that can be utilized to benchmark other, more budget friendly systems. Additionally, this channel has showcased more budget friendly solutions in prior videos such as a Class D amp against a Class A amp powering the XLF’s, a Hegel 390 powering bookshelf speakers, and running a system without a preamp. Additionally Jay’s experiments allow us to A/B compare many different components without having a salesperson interjecting their own opinion.
      In any case, this channel, among others, are great resources to help us figure out what kind of systems we like. I hope my wining doesn’t demotivate you from continuing to make these awesome videos..

    If it were me I would set the drivers to the specified distance they say and be done with it. Live with it a long time like a year then maybe make small tweaks. It I think that is better since sonic memory is really bad for just about everybody. I totally agree prices are obscene at this level. Hell even the lower levels they are getting insane. Many speaker companies significantly raised their prices over the last year partially due to the pandemic parts etc but also the trend was going crazy in this stupid direction a while now even before the Pandemic.

I like speakers with out any adjustment , and any reflexions from outside of cabinets . And by the way , to my wife not like at all my speakers , mostly tell me like is the ugly speakers i have it .. Very good review of Wilson XLF ! BR

    Speakers the size of refrigerators, and amps with kilowatts are way to big for most rooms. They end up sounding like stage systems. One looses the harmonic, and musical delicacies, and the presentation ends up sounding brawny, rather than organic, and musical. Huge systems never impressed me. Great video!

    All demos I auditioned with Wilson Audio loudspeakers in over 20 years of time, none of these systems were able to reveal diversity in height of voices and instruments. All voices and instruments were on the same height/line as the tweeter. This is a Hi-Fi parameter. So in fact they are not True High-End loudspeakers. I think it is time to show and teach the world what sound and music are. And on which aspects/properties it is built on. This is the only way people will learn and understand what is even possible in audio. The whole trial&error way of doing audio kept all people ignorant regarding the truth about audio. Loudspeakers who can let you hear all the differences in height of voices and instruments will bring you to a superior world. It is so much more intense and emotional. This is based on the harmonics of the recordings.

    • @bobbykingma4109
      @bobbykingma4109 2 года назад +1

      @@TheDanEdwards, You need to prove by sound and stage that you can reveal all aspects of sound. This is including diversity in height. I give you an example. When you play Miles Davis in DSD his album Kind of Blue you can hear that his trumpet is being displayed about 30 cm higher than the height of the tweeter. Cymbals even higher. When you play this song by Wilson Audio; his trumpet will be displayed at the height of the dome tweeter of the loudspeaker. I work for over 23,5 years full time in the world of audio, I know what is possible these days. I had the opportunity to listen to and compare so many different audio products.

    The formula can still work or should work.
    The prices and value its represent are out of proportion I guess. And it has probably to do also with perception.
    Can we reach the same level of enjoyment with less and do we want gear that only can perform as let’s say the matching cable system triples the value of the components? Is this always the case and when it is do we like or accept that?

    • @connorduke4619
