Despite all the comments insisting David is gay, it's entirely possible he's straight and on the feminine side. If women can be tomboys, why can't guys be tabbygirls?
I agree. Just as straight tomboys (and femme lesbians) exist, so do feminine straight guys (and macho gay men). And there are plenty of homes wherein the dad is better at the so-called "woman" things than the mom (I've always thought my dad is a better cook than my mom, personally).
I felt bad for Ava. I can tell she doesn't like pageants. In the home video Ava didn't want to take the baton and the dad was like, "Now Ava". It made me sad.
my dad was also like those parents when I was a kid, he would tell me what to do..and sometimes he yelled at me too, but now, when I think back, I am very thankful, because without him, I won't be like who I am now... so, it's not true what Tyra said... because kids are different from one to another, so they should be raised in different ways too...and most of the time, parents just want to do what's best to their children, I believe...
Tyra is asking a question then redirecting and putting words into their mouths. Ava loves doing pageants! She's always smiling with that genuine happy smile. Megan mom pushes her to do better. I wish my mom would have done that with me when I was growing up.
Just watched all 4 parts. I think its great putting kids in Pageants. it makes the kids so happy and they love to dress up and makes them feel like there achieving something but I'm sure alot of Parents go too far and force there child to do it with or without the child wanting to. but i think the children will be very greedy and they will expect to win all the time and even when they grow up they will want everything in there own perfect ways and also be very self-centered and have all this attitude that they shouldn't have. they get all of that from the Pageants and the mothers and fathers are desperate enough to spend all this money just to win like 1000$ dollars and a pretty crown and a trophy.
Yeah that's my main problem with it. I think they will grow up to be very self centered and always think they can win and get what they want, and they are going to regret this when these girls go to high school. Plus yes the investment is NOT worth the return.
It's just his accent. I know alot of Filipino guys (even my age) who have a similar accent. I'm not sure if it's a Filipino thing, or if it's a US regional thing.
It's not just the accent that strikes me as David being gay, because I know straight men with high pitched voices...it's more a combination of things...like how he loves making up routines for Ava, the feminine quality to his moves, the love for bedazzling dresses and doing hair/makeup, etc. ♥♥♥
"It's just his accent." And that head-bop that he does at 7:00. Gaaaaaayyyy. lol "I know alot of Filipino guys (even my age) who have a similar accent." Well, this guy is Tejano, not Filipino.
These kids just want to be loved by their parents so they do everything to please them. It's really sad. They shouldn't be exposed to this superficial world. This one mother even thinks it builds character. Das ist so traurig!
But he's RIGHT! I've been to Ebay out of stumbling across one of these dresses and the minimum is anywhere between $500 and $800 but i've seen little 6mon old and 1yr old dresses for $250 - $500 minimum
My cousin is a kid. She's 5 and she goes to the park or school or whatever like every other 5 year olds do. Pageants are an extra thing she does like when kids do gymnastics or karate. They don't do it 24/7. They do it sometimes. and Pageants are like monthy..maybe yearly and not everyday like regular activites so you think they practicie for them like evry single day of there lives?!?! Nooo. Don't judge pageants if you've never been one or never personally exeprienced it.
all I'm saying is, Don't judge all pageant parents becuz not every pageant parents force there kids in pageants. My cousin loves them and my aunt practices with her..not everyday but when the time for pageants is near then yes they practice alot just like you would practice alot in any other activity or sport. She doesn't do it everyday, pageants are an extra curricular activity.sure there are parents who aren't like my aunt but all im saying is, dont judge parents like that if u dunt noe them.
@Firescaric It's not Tyra that scares the little one. It's the situation - she's TWO years old, she's overwhelmed! And the dad is a clueless prick to put his daughter through this.
haha yeah it is but the producers say to do that especially with one older and one younger child because the younger one most likely wont know where to know but i agree, it is cute
Although I think these pageants are often crazy, it really is their decision. Some people call me crazy for doing dance class 5 days a week and making myself ridiculously tired because of it, but I really love to do it, so I ignore them. I wonder how the kids will feel about this when they grow up, though, and start to want to rebel.
@luvtwilight14 No, pageants are not just like modeling. Tyra began modeling in 11th grade. These kids, who are 2 and 8 and haven't even gone through puberty are wearing makeup and skimpy outfits and fake teeth just to be judged on how talented and beautiful they are. She is not being hypocritical because she has been involved in the modeling world/media and she has every right to be protective of children who are being sexualized in a way. They're too young.
tyra was 16 wen she started modeling. she was old enough to understand what she was getting herself into . whereas the small kids aare doing it coz their parents tell them to and if they do do it they get rewarded with candy and money
poor little baby! it's one thing if you're 5 or 6 and wanna dress up and do a pageant. I used to model from age 5-7 and did a couple pageants and shows and they were SO much fun! But for a 2-yr old, she has no idea what's going on.
DON'T. it will affect the child sub consciously. some might argue that its merely dressing up, but the girls are being judged. from personal experience (not from pageants, but similar) standing up on a stage and being rated on beauty and so called "skill" made me feel like a slave. i didnt understand it then, but i grew up to have this burden on my back, like i wasnt pretty enough to win, i wasnt skilled enough. it ruined my child hood coz i didnt understand why i suddenly felt inadequate.
I think I can see xoxo's point to a degree. It's human nature to judge someone on first impression, however that doesn't mean you necessarily allow this superficial judgement decide on the personality or remain the basis to if you socialize with them or not. You're right, it's not a consistent issue to see someone and automatically think something (like the goths with cutting), however, sad enough, majority of our world depends on this. Most you can do is not follow this mental pattern.
@nujjemomo don't forget this show is transmitted live and she has an ear thing in and when her producers, directors or whatever tell her for eg. 'Tyra, cut to commercial in 5 seconds' she has to do that in order for the whole thing to work. she doesn't cut 'cause she's mean. besides, at the end of this clip it ends with the guy saying something last
1:15 u can tell ava love pageants,by the way she smile that yellow dress ava is wearing, looks really beautiful the guy makes really nice clothes megan is wearing more makeup than tyra lol
If you know somebody that does pageants than you'll know that they aren't as bad as the tv or peopple make it to be. My cousin loves it and it's nothing like the way they describe it.
@chocolytesprynkles I know girls who competed in them, and they said that there were two or more male judges. However, I'm sure that different places do it differently.
I would have loved to have my dad support my interest in cheerleading, women's diving, and gymnastics. No such luck. I grew up with a very distorted view of sex and sex roles for a variety of reasons, but I can't help but blame my dad's lack of involvement. I agree with your comment 100%.
i used to be totally against pagents but i think that if the family isnt pushing them or forcing them and the kids truley enjoy it they should do it. there is always the issue of them feeling like if they dont have make up or fancy clothes on their ugly but its the parents job to teach them that they can be beautiful just the way they are.
that mother is gonna is gonna turn her daughter into such a perfectionist - and that's not always a great thing i can't believe she yells like that during gymnastics, i was a gymnast through my entire childhood and i've never seen a parent act like that - usually we just go train. that yelling would totally ruin the fun
I realy don't see what's wrong with beauty pageants. It's something that kids love to do and yes, they use makeup but in cheerleading they do too.. My 4 year old cousin competes in full glitz pageants and she absoulety loves it! she goes out and plays with her friends all day when she's not doing pageants. shes a normal 4 year old kid but she loves to do pageants as an extra currricular activity. yes some parents are too competitive but don't judge every parent.
I don't see anything wrong i have been acting since i was around 5 years old and do intense shows which were very hard on me but now i am 19 and studying performing arts at university and have a modelling contract i'm so great full to my parents for all they did for me so i could have a great foundation to do more in my life i say good on these parents for wanting there kids to be the best.
In gymnastics, you get points off if you didn't stick your landing, or if you lose your balance or fall off of something. You don't get points off because of your teeth or your outward appearance. Yeah, gymnasts have fun with their appearance with glitter and such and their hair, but they generally do that as a team. If not a team than just to do it. A gymnastics judge wont take off points because the next gymnast looks better? Its more skill than appearance for gymnastics. Generally speaking.
@born2act135 because no one's judgine them at the beach. In a pageant they're parading on a stage in those bikinis. I think that's the distinction people make. Just like when I was growing up, little kids used to run around naked in public in the summer, doesn't mean they should parade on a stage that way.
If this were something that people other than pageant parents attended, I'd consider it a real competition. But they're the only ones rating these girls/boys.
ok but speak for yourself. sure, there might be kids out there that neccerary don't want to be in pageants but not everyone. Just because you dislike pageants doesn't make pageatns a bad thing. I'm only speaking for myself but all I'm trying to say is, don't judge beauty pageants because some parents are forcing there kids to do it..not every parent is like that.
Lol oh geez... Tyra went and made that poor kid cry. Anyway, I can see where she's coming from and where almost everyone else is coming from but you do know that it's a television talk show. Opinions will be exchanged because it is a talk show. Tyra's doing her job right too it seems because she's getting heated responses from people who are watching her haha. That's what it's about, getting to the audience. Personally, I don't approve of pagents but SOME kids probably do enjoy them.
@purplekkie -- Exactly, I'm glad there are some people left in the world, who don't think men having "feminine" characteristics automatically means gay (or pedophile, apparently). I have a friend who "sounds" gay, but in reality he has an inoperable tumor on or near his vocal cords, making his voice sound different. It's not like "gay" is a disorder, where you have certain traits, like "limp wrists" or "feminine voice"... people need to get a clue!!
I know, dude. She's getting on people on the way they do things and almost expects them to acknowledge the fact that she wasn't "raised" that way. "Do you think that is the only way?" My father taught my mother how to sew. Sewing isn't "gay". I hate how men are perceived as "gay" just because they like something that is traditionally feminine. There are also gays who are masculine, you know.
It's not the way he looks that makes me think he's gay, but rather the way he twirls batons, talks, and carried himself on the show. Yes, men can be feminine without being gay, but this guy in particular seems gay.

aww. Ava is so cute.
The 2 year old is SO adorable.
Personally, i love this dad
that daddy daughter relationship is so adorable :)
Poor Ava....she's so precious and adorable.
my god that black child is so BEAUTIFUL.
Tyra is asking a question then redirecting and putting words into their mouths. Ava loves doing pageants! She's always smiling with that genuine happy smile. Megan mom pushes her to do better. I wish my mom would have done that with me when I was growing up.
Ava is precious. I would love to adopt her and let her be a KID.

megan is so beautiful, with and without make-up !
The dad is so adorable cx
I LOVE LOVE LOVE PAGEANTS!! :D
they're so fun 2 compete it :)
haha totally agree, I was like aww tyra your scaring the poor kid.

i would of loved to do this as a kid
That Dad, is a pageant Dad. That's hilarious, and horribly sad at the same time.
The Dad reminds me of Tom Hanks with his daughter Nicky in the Toddler and Tiaras parody they did :P

Tyra is up there, talking about how pageants are bad for children, while she pushed the little one off the couch!!! #hypocrite
She got her to her mom

tyra scared to ava! pour baby!!
Lmao In your face Tyra
I think the father made some good points that she obviously couldn't react to.
If you know somebody that does pageants than you'll know that they aren't as bad as the tv or peopple make it to be. My cousin loves it and it's nothing like the way they describe it.
thats why i do cheerleading

They are killin these poor kids :"(
I am proud to be from Texas now! xD
I can't wait for my kids to do pagents. (When I have them)

@marter2006 hahahahaha love your Tyra-esque commentary :)
Good for him...
she looks liek the girl off The orphan but as her black :o shes a beautiful american girl without makeup
why is it wrong for a man to want to sew or dance???
yeah, i agree.
Megan is pretty with or with our makeup!
lol the mum sounds like my mum when i used to sing at eisteddfods.
I realy don't see what's wrong with beauty pageants. It's something that kids love to do and yes, they use makeup but in cheerleading they do too.. World champion baton-twirler sister, sewing goddess-grandma,wife-cosmetologist. Haha,he's got it all laid out in front of him.

competition highlights and give meaning diifrences and give it meaning.... this leads to conflict and conflict leads to strife..... as seen

Ughhh sorry. I'm such a loser for letting this show fire me up. Tyra had some good show this season but daaayuuum that didn't last long, thanks to her interviewin' skills.
"Ideals that I instill in them" - what ideals? - use a two year old's looks to make money..?
I thank my parents everyday for letting me be who i wanted to be while growing up- not tarting me out in dresses and blusher for fucks sake.
@xONExWAYxTICKETx Why can't you? There are still pageants out there for teens.
tyra always seems to say that she never does anything bad and then makes the poeple who go on her show look bad sooo condescending :c i mean yes, they could be doing something wrong, but i just think that's rude and that itself is wrong
Amen!!!
Kids that grow up to be in competitions such as these , they're gonna be like wayy to un-bearable when they're older so these parents should be thinking about what they're putting their children in to. Maybe i didn't word my thoughts properly but ithink i brought across the message,
The parents need lives
And you are just so jelly it hurts :D
omg poor girl!!!! POOR GIRL POOR GIRL POOR GIRL!!!! D:
She can be very passive aggresive
What's up with Tyra yelling a Megan's mom about how she critiques her daughter?? Tyra is so judgmenal! lol
lmao tyra always has a judgement made before the show even starts and throughout her show she tries to prove it and if shes wrong she juss interrupts them or ask them questions that steer them in her direction making them feel uncomfortable
@cutieglitzdiva I agree with you on that. Alot of people dont relize the hell a model will go thru to be on top. Eating disorders, heath risks and alot of mental issues when they dont "look good". What is scary is if you hear these little girls talk its all money money money. Not to mention once they hit it big {IF they ever do} they get the issues the models do. Top that with the greed theres wonderful parents instilled in them and see a tragic ending for most.
Guys the American Dream is unattainable! That poor little girl is gonna go through hell only to be disappointed!
I'm not going to comment on that Dad cause I'm a 15 year old boy watching old episodes of Tyra... So I ain't judging...
Maybbe because they only film when it's pageant season. I agree with you, but i want to add that gay IS NOT an insult.
Meaghan is in my class at school :)
