- Destiny 2's Lore and Story from the Season of the Deep touches on the details around the fall of Titan in the Golden Age. In this second episode, we talk about The Witness's power and how it destroyed Titan in a massive tidal wave. We also talk about what this destruction looked like to the scientists that were located both on the Arcology and deep beneath the waves, near the bottom of the sea!

God, Bungie's writing is usually spot-on, but Last Days on Kraken Mare just goes so hard. Absolutely incredible writing.
The irony of having someone named Ishmael on Titan is not lost on me.
No matter how many times I hear the story of the devastation of Titan it never ceases to amaze me. It is chilling, especially hearing it from those that were there. They had no idea what was coming, the poor bastards. Thanks Byf, great as always!
"The Traveler will protect us, no matter what happens. Correct?"
That one stings. Knowing what's to come in the Collapse, that hurts. The Traveler didn't protect humanity, it barely survived the Witness' attack. The Traveler was wounded, and humanity, or what was left of it, was left to pick up the pieces.
And that's to say nothing of the other civilizations it abandoned
That was a prediction of the course of action it would take, not its capability. This is especially obvious since David replies that "It can't do anything else."
For some reason my brain immediately conjured the old Marathon quote of "It was as if the Universe forgot it's own rules."
I have chills.... Bungie has whole ass movie material in the lore. Kudos to the writing team.
This was like listening to the last moments of ancient Pompeii
I feel for these people...I'd even watch a trilogy of movies about this

@jimijenkins2548 as a TV show yes. Movies, nah
@jimijenkins2548 easy 15 season's between all 3 though
@@OtherL In case you missed it, these are all Berserk arcs. I was playing on the coincidence that both Berserk and Destiny have a golden age.
The lore is so good it’s crazy. Just listening to it is so immersive. I feel the fear of the unknown.
The lore 100% has to be shown through a tv show
This is one of my favorite lore books. I always love the ones that give us small a small glimpse into the Golden Age. Current players only get a taste of the wasteland Titan is with this season's activities. The initial visit to Titan in Vanilla D2 shows the full scale of the destruction the Witness brought to that moon.
Imagine the helplessness he must have felt seeing that wave
WH40K always paints exterminatus events as these grand things like orbital bombardment, releasing super-plagues, or all-out warfare. Dead Space described the removing of entire sections of planets as catastrophic events. Halo’s universe has delved into the effects glassing has on planets.
I think Destiny’s version is the most haunting. An unseen, incredibly strong force squeezing a planet/moon just enough, that when it lets go, the planet/moon violently shakes, causing massive tidal events and wiping out everything.
The witness offered them an egg during these trying times
Destiny sure has quite the menagerie: cosmic horses that can travel dimensions and bend space and time, semi-organic fish that can essentially give you therapy via access to people’s memories and emotions, alien dogs bred for warfare, creatures of darkness that can smother out light, giant psychic leviathans, and shapeshifting, wish-granting, reality altering, dragons. On that note, pets made from light and darkness to own and use in combat would be great, if Bungie added this in as an update. Imagine, a pet wolf, or even a Griffon (as light and darkness together could have limitless possibilities to shape reality). A certain, John Wick-esc Hunter would appreciate that.
we have threadlings, stasis turret, arc soul, void soul, but no solar soul
We already have a John Wick Story, the story of the dog Luna, told in the lore tabs of Luna's Howl and Not Forgotten
@@ryankoh917 I was referring to that story in the lore, I couldn’t recall the Hunter’s name. I mean to say, he’d recreate the dog he’d lost from light and darkness, this moment being in a lore tab after a pet related update to the game.
We actually have solar healing turret, but it is tied to an exotic glaive for warlocks.
Also 1 thing about pets - sounds like an overdelivery (insert comical drums sounds)
You know what would be really fucc’d? We Savathun infiltrate us to learn about the Light, but what if it turns out someone we knew for a long time came back as an unknowing plant for the Witness using the power of memory and like a sleeper agent randomly snapped, killing everyone forcing you to put him down again
Another additional thought. I want you all to think about something.
Several of the Arcologies *still stand.* Even in the destruction of Titan during the Collapse, these structures remain intact and in some places even look intact enough that they could be salvaged and become inhabitable again. For example They remain Upright. THere could be a time, in a new Second (or would it be Third now?) Golden Age after the Saga of Light and Dark as Humanity retakes it's birthright and steps back out into the stars. A Titan Restored with it's great cities reclaimed anew.
That also shows how fucking good the architecture waa
I’m fascinated with Korosec. I hope he’s now one of those pacifist Lightbearers out with Efrideet.
The lore writing this season was...tragic. i really felt that "oh man..." At the end.
That aside, its heart breaking that one AI orders an evacuation and another uses the evacuees for target practice.
Imagine if Destiny's lore was playable
This was a hell of a story, Byf thank you for telling us about Titan's final days and just how apocalyptic the sheer scale of it was
The narration was amazing and the music set the mood perfectly
As an American I am a little amused that the Ethicist is the American in the room.
Ive been so excited to get back into the lore and have been listening to all your vids from the last year while at work. Thanks a ton for the fresh convos and such a blast of life into this game I want to keep loving. ❤️
"Oh man". Again the last days at krakenmare book is soo good.
I wonder if Aztecross will react to this video...😂
Love Cross but man....
As long as Byf is cool with it I guess
@@Spidahman4283hmm? Do they have beef?
@@Spidahman4283 ? What’s the issue? Most views come within days of the initial release understanding that he’s not “stealing” views his audience just shows up more. Which is more likely that his audience shows up to watch his videos regardless of content including those who wouldn’t go out of their way to look for this stuff or they’re watching it so they don’t have to watch it twice. Once for his reaction once for the video himself.
Enough with the back-biting. It's childish.
@@adarkwind4712 Its just an understanding of how react content works.
If RUclips or insert video distrib here wanted to, they could easily interlink the source vid reference to the new video, and ask content creators to split revenue with OC based on percentage of the new video made that is based on the OC.
It is the old where do you draw the line on plagerism stance
No, what the scientists really saw was the fury of the Skrank Gang.
"That Skrang Gang is still a threat."
"Hahahahaha- Gang-Gang-"
Thank you Byf, for such a dramatic, enthralling and empathic telling of the destruction of Titan during the Collapse.
You know.. this whole book has an excellent narrative begging to be adapted into another media. As always, excellent re-narration Byf
There’s a certain irony to the theme of secrecy in relation to Titan’s destruction. While Rasputin, it’s Seraphs, and the Witness had the common goal of not letting information get out, and ensuring this by guaranteeing no survivors, centuries later, the long buried secrets are finally revealed and laid bare. Through the time anomalies the Witness created, Ahsa’s psychic powers, our access to memories and emotion via the Darkness, and other related allied Coalition assets like the Psions, and the Relic on Mars, the City, it’s Guardians, and our allies, have had greater access to the Golden Age, and past knowledge during, and before it, then ever before. Despite they’re best efforts, the Witness and Rasputin were unable to keep Titan’s secrets from us. The stories of its people, and the knowledge they meant for us to find, has finally been discovered, they’re deaths, no longer in vain. With all the recourses mentioned at our disposal, nearly all secrets of tue Golden Age, during, before, and after, are now within our reach. This fact gives a faint hope, that after the war with the Witness is concluded, and we survive to see the garden we’ve built into bloom, we may not only rediscover all of humanity’s lost knowledge from the powers and tools we’ve gained, but we may yet, with the Coalition’s combined efforts, build a second Golden Age (hopefully, excluding the likes of Clovis Bray and the mad scientist Maya Sundaresh became). Sadly, Rasputin, unlike what Zavala had said, is no longer among us to reach that second Golden Age. With the Bray sisters, he may have even enjoyed building, rather than destroying.
Thank you so much for this series of lore videos, Lord Byf. I knew the broader strokes but learning the details of a warning unheeded, the Tyrant's will imposed and the final, dreadful ruin completed make it so much more vivid. Looking forward to the next lore drop. Cheers! 🍺
the Lasts Days on Kraken Mare would be a pretty cool thriller movie.
What a great series to wrap up this season with. I'm excited for tomorrow.
I imagine this to be the scene somewhat to Interstellar’s Tidal Wave scene. No matter how many times I hear this lore, it’s still terrifying to imagine.
Let's goooo!!! Best part of my day, a Byf video!
The Lore about Titan is by far the scariest simply because the sea is terrifying
Byf thank you for this series I really enjoyed it. Hope you do more.
Interesting to think of the Witness "lying" to Savathun about the God wave to get them to enter the deep and find the worm gods. If they didn't do what he said he probably does to Fundament what he did to Titan..
Byf, your Lore readings never cease to give me goose-bumps (in a good way)!
Fantastic job! Thanks for the hard work.
I never really grasped what happened on Titan even a modicum back in base D2. It never really made me think. But now. This is horrifying. Chilling. It makes your skin crawl and your stomach lurch. Bro. What in all the primordial forces were the writers smoking cause holy God. This reads like a prophetic nightmare.
Holy frick, that was an enthralling listen. Thank you for doing it so much justice. Well done!
My favorite lore in all of D2. I was mesmerized by “Last Days…”
Really well done!
all this titan stuff really cements that TFS should be rated M
I just want a prequel game of being a a person during the start of the collapse and ultimately becoming 1 of the 1st warlords
Hey Byf! The annunciation of the buck the Duiker is: Day- kuh-r. With a quite harsh r at the end! Its one of the bucks that i’ve known since childhood!
as you were narrating this, I was imaging this as a tv series and... man it would be so epic.
Maury was trying to go for the Save the Animals incentive but unfortunately he was already over time
There isn't an conventional lore to confirm it, but do you think David was a speaker, and that's why he believed in his absolute morality theories? He's so convinced The Traveler is good it just feels like the text is hinting he knows something
what is the piece of music you used at the beginning of this video? its gorgeous
Dang seconds after the upload!
Ain’t no way babatunde the warlord himself made it into destiny. Kiss Simon Immediately
I was literally searching for someone to mention ksi lmao
Amazing listen ❤️❤️❤️
thank you!
The Witness: I am your salvation, the end of chaos and the birth of order.
Also The Witness: LMAO, bouncy moon go boyoyoing!
Idk if you noticed but the final room of the Vault Of Glass is a huge triangle with a triangle portal at the end just like the portal in the Traveler.
Hot damn that’s some spicy lore
Dammit. One of the ads in the video woke me up, now I can't sleep.
Byf just to let you know Ismail is pronounced like Es-maeil. Keep up the good work
Man i feel like im a kid in bed and byf is reading me a story.
I could listen to this guy tell the story of sewing and it i know it would be the greatest told, excellent series on titan. Crazy this much greatness in destiny's world is buried where most will never look.
Hey Byf. Love what you do, I rarely miss a vid.
If I may suggest a better pronunciation for the word "Duiker" (no judgement, Afrikaans can be weird). You could try saying it like " Day - ker " where "day" is a good enough approximation for the first part (depending on where in SA you are), and the "ker" you keep as you have it.
See this is the kind of story i would love to see in a destiny tv show.
I've seen enough doomsday movies to imagine this scene. But of course this felt different. This... was Golden Age Titan. A literal and figurative mission statement to Humanity's desire to push the fringe of exploration, and greet the unknown.
I can’t be the only one thinking they put „Babatunde“ in there without thinking about KSI
What’s the music in the background???? Seriously I’m dying to know what it is!
No im dying to know about anyone who survived the wave
Bro really died for his "Swarmers", bro homie is THROWING 😔
I feel like Bungie (especially since being acquired by Sony) would benefit from making a few short shows or something based on the lore books of destiny.
Community: God Wave, Again?
Witness: Why not? It worked before.
Why are there so many buildings in the sea under the ice sheet? As far as i understand, it seemed like they just drilled a borehole through the ice sheet and was going to explore it just before the black fleet arrived. I probably missed something so any insight is welcome. :)
Dont think Bungie was thinking ahead with the god wave. The light deals with the physical, especially gravity. It doesnt make sense that the witness has power to pull titans waves
Don't know what to say, so I'll only say hi 😅
Now THAT is a god wave
KSI is apart of destiny Babatunde lives!
😂
"Spinal." -Mike Tyson
Is there any record on exactly killed so many during the collapse? Like someone setting a death energy throughout the universe?
Forgetting this is a fictional story, and assuming this takes place in our theoretical future...I feel so bad for these people I will never really know despite wondering if they ever will or had existed.
You're wrong David. There's one last option that you forgot. The third option. The option to run.
Love the lore and love the fact byf just spread savathun's song corrupting us all.
Yay
“10,000 leagues” is a horizontal distance, not a vertical one
Ten thousand leagues down is way WAY too deep. You'd blow out the other end of Titan and continue going for something like twenty-five thousand miles before you got to 10,000 leagues.
I would love to watch a Golden age/collapse mini series. Pls bungie or fan creators.
i notice somebody really likes monte carlo
There are several things that bother me about the collapse. One to add to the list is; why do the arcologies seem busted but not entirely destroyed when this makes it clear they were buried under the waves?
Nearly all of the facilities were anchored by long, steel, pillars, with an ice shelf below, which separated the depths of the methane sea, and what had already been explored. This ice shelf being a thick, layered barrier of extremely hard ice, it was used as the foundation in which these structures, and their supporting pillars, stood on. Some facilities were washed on the waves, others stayed in place, but were damaged, and some became crooked and unstable. Though, some facilities remained, no lives were spared. In another timeline, maybe they would have survived, if not for Rasputin, and if Assa’s message was heeded.
@@garrettviewegh9028No one on Titan was surviving, and any assertion that Pell's data would have given humanity a better chance is cope. If Pell had been detained, then more people escape Titan and there are possibly more survivors in the system post-Collapse, but any human on Titan was giga fucked.
Is it true that there won’t be any new “red” subclass?
What… IS THAT MELODY? (Someone please actually tell me I wanna know pls)
“Erm… the uhh… duiker is actually a er… antelope… not a deer.”
