Ironically, that what drove Caiatl away from her father was the same that drew her to Zavala. Because Zavala was someone who always cared for his people, the people of Sol. And he was willing to put himself into harm's way to protect them.
Another thing to note, is that Cabal might grow quicker mentally than humans. They are a completely different species from a different planet after all.
Hard to tell, though Cabal do seem to live for centuries if not millenia. Mind you, this is without the Traveler’s intervention like in the case of Humanity or The Eliksni. In the same book, it describes when Cabal get old enough, they start to ossify, becoming almost like statues. Instead of growing thinner, wrinklier, and frailer. So I’m guessing that aging process is tied to their longevity. Also on Torobatl there are species of land whales that the Leviathan is modeled after. Keep in mind whales, live on in the seas, since the ocean water supports their massive weight. Considering the size of the Cabal and these whales, Torobatl maybe is more oxygen rich then Earth. Hence why we see most Cabal like Ghaul or Caiatl wearing what appears to be rebreathers. Though considering Cabal have cloning capabilities, I wouldn’t put it past them having genetic engineering as well.
or they are counted to be birth once they come out of the fathers pouches. and they can spend years there. and come out as like compared to a 7yo child mentaly even thou they are "older*
@KingEbin That was in part because of the harder life that early Americans had to deal with. They lived much shorter lives. Culture played a role but that culture was built around the environment. So I'd suggest their world had a big impact
@@DeusExAngelo I distinctly recall that the atmosphere is far denser on torobatl, which is why most Cabal wear the helmets that they do, and why headshots cause their heads to spurt liquid and gas quite violently, and why the armor is so bulky, as it is a pressurized suit
Personally as an evolutionary biologist major, this was my favorite simply because the Cabal breeding system being a mix of marsupial and pipefish-style reproductive habits was just so cool to me. I have no idea if other species on their planet had the same system- I mean, they probably did, if they shared a common ancestor with some of them- but the fact that the taxing nature of gestation and childrearing is split between the males and females so evenly means that they probably had an advantage over species that didn't do such a thing, as their males and females had an equal amount of investment in the rearing and thus were able to recover quicker for battle. Eggs are energetically costly to produce and fetuses are even more costly to rear, so the female passing them over for the male to deal with after fertilization/a bit of gestation for him to carry and breastfeed means that said cost is split more evenly than if one sex alone dealt with all of the hustle. Of course, there runs the risk of him rejecting the offspring for those of a stronger female, as mentioned, so the mother must guard the father and the young, but it gives the male a reproductive advantage in that he can simply choose a better partner if his is insufficient- and, of course, the females must do a better job at proving their fitness. Such a thing would lead to selection for bigger, stronger females, who likely want big, strong males to carry more of their young, which is how we get such a large, warlike race like the Cabal. It's a pretty fantastic piece of speculative biology that makes them at once far more fearsome and yet far more relatable in my eyes
@@jackb3822 Knowing that they are creatures just like us that have vulnerable young they care for and love takes the edge off the 'alien' part of their nature, just like how seeing Eliksni with hatchlings made it clear that not all were terrifying warmongers
I think a case where one sex bears and the other protects is probably best for reproduction and survival. Instead of a jack-of-all-trades approach, having each sex hyper-specialized in their roles I think would lead to greater success from a war standpoint. I'd rather have 100 great soldiers than 150-200 decent ones
Well to be fair it was only a matter of time before Lore Daddy Byf would have to read some lore that would make anyone wish they were an Exo and could just reboot and forget the past few hours... xD
The new design of Calus with darkness medallions adorning his belly reminds me of the imagery of historical dictators and tyrants with their uniforms covered with comical amounts of medals to celebrate their “accomplishments”
Hmm. To me, it looks really gaudy. Which fits. In the trailer when he’s shown with it he says, “My semblance matches my inner beauty.” Considering how Calus has no inner beauty AT ALL, it’s fitting that his appearance has caught up with that. 😅
Calus saying he wants "nothing" reminds me a lot of the Witness saying "No more life, no more death." Even if he wasn't fully conscious of it at the time, I feel like Calus wanted what the Witness would eventually offer to him. That certain darkness that could only be exemplified through destruction. And if anything I feel like all the Witness ever did was give him the opportunity to let that side of him out, just enough to set him down the path he eventually took.
This tracks well with the way Rhulk turned out in the lore. These individuals agree with the Witness not because the Witness is inherently right, or due to fear or awe (though to say those arent factors would be remise) but because they are each inherently broken in some way and are drawn to the appeal of a meaning, a purpose that could justify their existence. This is why Guardians were likely so susceptible in other timelines, especially during the Red War, because they lacked a clear understanding of their purpose in absence of the Light. Its why the The Witness' line in the launch trailer 'you lack purpose' is a perfect line, because it exemplifies everything about the Witness that draws people to it.
@@aidenfanucci9523 Oh that's so true! Valid points. Here's a good question though : canonically speaking, were we the only ones interacting with the tree of silver wings, and to receive the ruinous effigy? If that's the case, why did the Witness single us out? Here's another question, do you really think the Witness wants to destroy all life in the galaxy, or do you think its ultimate goal is to destroy the 4th and 5th rule of the flower game, the light and dark?
"When a mommy cabal loves a daddy cabal very much...." Yea, never expected the birds and bees talk in Byf's velvety voice🤣...very insightful chapter indeed. 👍🏾
ki-yat (like kayak) is also how Caiatl's name would be pronounced in the Nahuatl language, which, in Earthling terms, is where her name and the name Torobatl were derived. In that language, the "tl" denotes a glottal stop, not an "L" sound as most users of Western Euro languages would expect. This is the same language that gave us words like xocolatl, the root for chocolate, and Quetzalcoatl and Axolotl. Nahuatl is a fascination of mine, and greater than 99% of people don't ever say the words correctly, so that's my apology for the little rant lol.
@@justalilcoffeecat Genuine question, how is Axolotl pronounced in Nahuatl? I'm def aware that the english pronunciation for it is incorrect but I don't know how it's said properly.
Personally to me, Calus is really tragic with this context. He's a man who has struggled to trully feel anything his entire life. Putting on a facade of happiness and opulence when in actuality he's hollow and emotionalless. And finally when he found something to make him feel. He fucked it up. And pushed it away. I don't think calus is inherently bad or evil or only cares for himself. I think he's just a deeply misguided person. Who only really wanted to feel something, other than emptiness.
Well I think Calus is both seriously misguided and evil. Both can be true. Many times the misguided turn to fully evil, willingly rejecting a better path or advice. This is Calus. Learning more about his past, one can understand how he made the choices he did. Yet at the same time, he made often rejected and lashed out at those trying to genuinely love and help him. A sad fact of reality, is that many of those horrifically abused will turn into horrific abusers themselves. It takes a great deal of personal humility, resolve, compassion, and control to be one to break free from that.
*A male Cabal legionairy sitting in the barracks with children in his pouch. Another legionary walks up.* "Those yours?" "No. My Bracus couldn't find a sitter in time and I drew the short straw."
Now think of all the Cabal we've shot and how many of them might have kids they're looking after or have in their pouches during combat as we bodyshot them.
@@insertbetternamehere7148 For me or the Cabal? Because I'm starting to think the reason Cabal Phalanxes can boop us across the map with a shield bash is because that Cabal has a kid with them and their maternal instinct gives them extra strength.
I really like to think that there is a cabal martial art practiced by females of the species, akin to Sumo, that comes from ancient, primal, disputes over territory and mates. Imagine two massive tusked cabal hauling forward, with speed you didn't think possible from a being so large, colliding against each other. One grips her opponent's tusks in each hand, defending her neck, a perilous position. Meanwhile, the other continues her assault, trying to find a solid grip on her rival's waist. They appear locked in place, both grunting, their thick hides rolling with each thrash of effort, one might compare how they look, to two kodiak bears. Suddenly, the aggressor's hands find purchase. She heaves her hulking opponent skyward and shrugs her weight to the side in a throw. Both Cabal land in the dirt. The defender goes limp, her defensive strategy turned into two swords pointed right at her by the aggressor's throw, and plunged deep into her neck under the weight of her falling opponent. The victor stands and bellows triumph to a group of onlooking males. She has proven herself.
I feel like the Guardian is the first thing Calus truly loved. He promised us loot and riches beyond our wildest dreams, and We fell right into his arms. He was so touched by our acceptance that he wrote a fanfiction where we conquer and survive the universe together.
He truly loved Caitl, he said if several times. In Duality there's a collectable with a voiceline with Calus basically telling us that he doesn't care about Guardians, that he stringed them along with promises of loot and praise and so they did his bidding as puppets.
Forcer. I hate you so much EDIT: I don't hate them just, why did Bungie think it was a good idea to put that KNOWLEDGE INTO OUR HEADS HOW DOES THAT HELP US WIN THIS WAR OF LIGHT AND DARK WHAT ARE WE GOING TO SHOOT CALUS' TITS TO KILL HIM

My wife gets me the Lore Books as Birthday/Xmas presents, my god! You sit down have a little flick through, see some badass artwork, then you start getting into the story (I LOVE Dregen Yor/Rezzyl story) aaaaaaand hours later I'm digging through each book linking things together, obsessed with finding out what's in the game or not! Ideas for what my Guardians should look like etc XD
As bizarre as it may be to our sensibilities, I appreciate that Bungie writers took the time to think though the xenobiology of our alien characters. It helps enrich the lore
As a person currently learning the ways in which human anatomy works with this kind of stuff, it actually tracks pretty well with how bungie have expanded on the Cabal. There's a lot of examples in nature where gender and sex determination aren't nearly as clear cut as human biology, notably Clownfish, sea horses, and reptiles in general. To imagine a species where the egg is released, and then nursed in the male provides a great deal of insight into how deep Bungie think when writing this lore. Id imagine that the only reason cabal females are considered such is due to them producing the eggs, but by almost any other standard they would be more physiologically comparable to human males. Its always best to remember evolution takes no single path to reach an end point, it just appears that way because one happened to outcompete the rest in this scenario.
What gets me is that Caiatl clearly stated her deepest desire amidst Ahamkara bone dust. We know the Ahamkara work outside of mortality and I would even wager that Ahamkara bone dust is still sufficient to fulfill wishes. If Caiatl wished for the Cabal to find a better future and for her to lead them to that brighter future... well, the entire story up to now makes even more sense.
Calus is so empty that not even an Ahamkara bone can find anything to work on. That is extremely distressing to witness and I felt chills when I realized the enormity of this void as Byf was explaining it. smh
Thanking about it, when Xivu came to Torabatal, when she said “I’ve l come for my tribute! It is long overdue!”, means so much more when you realize the person who died was Umun, and it seems that the Cabals culture is more linked to the Hive then they know! Crazy to think about
Calus acts like someone who is in a deep depression and has become emotionally numb. This whole story is very heavy but revealing. Kudos to Destiny's outstanding writers.
Me, who finds it both academically and personally fascinating: 😗 I mean yeah, the potential for filthy kink p0rn is outstanding, but I’m more interested in, like, all the ways it can be interpreted socially and philosophically in terms of gender and personhood and logistics.
Likewise, and wasn’t really off-put/fascinated by it until Caiatl as a fully grown adult makes mention of her father’s nipples…and forgetting how they taste. I loved the lorebook overall, but that part really took me out of the moment. It was really gross for no good reason.
@@DeusExAngelo i think its interesting from a standpoint that cabal live for hundreds or thousands of years. Thank you for the blurb about the orbital period of the Cabal homeworld. This is also the case for the Hive but possibly also for Neomunans as Neptune revolves around the sun 165 years at a time so for them a decade is still very long lived compared to human standard.
While this is beside the main topic, your example of matching words in English and French isn't about the English stealing it from the French, it's actually the French bringing it into English. When William the Conqueror conquered England, many French words heavily impacted the English language as French was the official language, specifically among the nobility. Same with Scandinavian words that became part of the language during the Viking raids and Danelaw.
It's probably a riff on the old joke of how English doesn't borrow from other languages; it follows them down dark alleys, knocks them senseless, and searches their pockets for loose grammar.
@@ericbright1742 that's actually hilarious because anyone that knows anything about the etymology and all other linguistic development of the English language can tell you it's the exact opposite 😂 English was pushed into said alleys, got knocked senseless and had grammar of other languages forced into their pockets and in some cases got forces to stop using English unless you were an uneducated peasant 😂 oh and after that English decided to simplify in ways that make the language appear absolutely mental while making perfect sense 😂
@@kronosx7 Nope, English is a Germanic language, whereas French is Romance, so while much of French is derived from Latin, most of English (the parts not brought over by the French) is actually derived from German, Hello being the easiest example.
@@aidenfanucci9523 while you're not wrong as Old English dialects and grammar as a whole was Germanic, Kronosx7 is also not completely wrong. Latin was prominent in England as well, primarily as a language of learning and the clergy. The drastic shift came during the reign of Alfred thr Great when he ordered for sermons to be performed in English so that the common folk can understand the prayers, etc. Needless to say it was a very controversial decision. Regardless, due to the importance of Latin prior to this, it was quite common for the monarchy, mobility and clergy to learn Latin. Due to the nature of language it is only natural for some words to be adapted into standard vocabulary of English itself. It most certainly wouldn't be as widespread as French but you may still find words that originated in Latin.
4:27 In fact, Caiatl loves to remind us of how the Cabal language works. Six words for attack, none for retreat, a word for peace they do not use lightly, etc.

On the topic of Cabal 'Years': One of the ideas about the Leviathan is that the miniature binary stars above the Leviathan are a nostalgic representation of Torobatl's system for the exiled emperor. If this is correct, then it would also basically show why Cabal years are so long. You see, for a planet in a binary star system to habitable to a fairly humanoid species such as the Cabal (in contrast to to housing just very hardly microbes or the likes), it needs to present a decently stable temperature for a proper biosphere to develop. And for this, in that binary system, it has only two options: a) "S-type": Orbit a single of the binary stars, which will be quite hot but also at least stable (a stable hot temperature is better for life as we can imagine it than extreme temperature fluctuations). For this, the stars need to be quite a ways away from each other however - which is physically possible, but not represented in that binary system atop the Leviathan. b) "P-type": Orbit around both binary stars at once, basically acting as if its just one large star. For this to be physically stable, the P-type planet needs to orbit in a very, very long distance as it needs to be far enough so the two stars orbiting each other doesn't interfere with the gravity of the planet. And boom - there is the wide orbit, and why Cabal years are so long. At least one option that ties back to an old theory about the Leviathan. It's also entirely possible Torobatl is just a planet far away from a single host star. It's also possible Cabal years aren't that long but they just develop quickly - but as per their incredibly long lifespans, this seems very unlikely. Also this video is incredible to listen to as an Astrobiologist. Bungie has put incredibly care into their species design and it shows.
I’m watching so many of these to keep me from going insane as I wait for Lightfall. It’s only 3 days away but every day that passes it feels like time slows down incredibly slowly.
My man Byf, I just want to say thankyou. Some Cabal like Ignovan wear ornamental armor with ornamental tusks on them even though Ignovan is a male. Caiatl however has completely natural tusks.
Ima call it NOW that the witness is a 4th dimensional character or gets their powers from it. Based on the way he appears on shattered glass a lot. The way he has weird movements, outfit included. Could explain how he cuts up the ghost. In the launch trailer. Final tid bit in the D2 lightfall/ Darkness unveiled - developer insights at 1:40 they say "The Witness is above the Universe". Which could imply a forth dimension. I haven't heard many others say anything about it to my knowledge but if they did cool. Just getting my idea out before lightfall. Love the content keep it up!!!
"I would have had 1000 more young, if only I could have made you happy." damn that one line makes Calus seem a lot more "human" than anything else. Also this puts into perspective why Caiatl and Zavala are such good friends, they both have the same philosophy when it comes to leading. Though in-game of course Zavala and the rest of the Vanguard don't do shit and leave all the work to The Guardian.
After hearing you mention that Caiatl's name has the hive word Aiat in it, it immediately makes sense why Joe Blackburn was mispronouncing Caiatl. He mispronounced it on purpose as a subtle breadcrumb 😅 Joe Blackburn, you clever, clever man
This gets my vote for the main objective of Destiny 3's first year. I can picture it already: an alliance of Guardians, the Cabal Empire Remnant, the House of Light, and the Lucent Brood may all have their own reasons for joining together to reconquer Torobatl but one thing is clear...the Hive are going to truly be on the defensive for the first time in their existence.
One thing I learned recently about sex, is that the reason we know the male sea-horse is the one that gives birth (and we didn't just accidentally call it the male one when first discovered) is that male and female are biologically determined by the size of one's gamete (the egg) In humans, the men are men because our gamete (sperm) are drastically smaller than a woman's ovum. Edit: Mixed up zygote with gamete
Well the male sea horse giving birth is very different from how most mammals let alone humans give birth. To my understanding at least . The female still produces the un-fertilized egg cells which he stores in a brood pouch. Meanwhile he still produces the sperm cells that seek out and fertilize the eggs. But this time, the sperm need to travel far less of a distance and have more options. In the same manner that sperm cells do in other animals. I think the reason why can also tell if a sea horse is male or female is because they operate on the XY and XX chromosome system found on almost all multicellular life on earth. The Cabal from the sounds of it, have a sort of mixed system between a sea horse and a human. Where the male impregnates the female, who carry the fetal young til they become an infant. Whereby they are deposited into a male’s brood pouch for nursing.
It should also be noted, especially with the conservative panic about trans people, human gender is on a spectrum, & we're typically taught the basic binary about chromosomes, but in most humans, its not one or the other, its a mix of different levels.
@@nicholasschoonbeck6866 Not on a spectrum. You remove yourself away from social media specifically Twitter and re-enter the real world and you'll be free away from all those safety bubbles of depravity and delusion
@@nicholasschoonbeck6866 Much of the issues with that is that the term "gender" has been misused for decades. So much so that people use it interchangeably with sex (sex being the correct term when referring to someone's biology, while gender is closer to what gender-identity is) this same thing has happened with a bunch of other words like climate and weather. Obviously causing confusion.
@@xvx_k1r1t0_xvxkillme7 Why do the Left and Right, etc. misuse the word "Woke", what is the mentality of a Women, and why would you identify as construct founded on religious grounds, if they were meant to be oppressive?
This kinda plays into to what i've been thinking about for while now. Maybe whats actually happening is: The Traveler goes to a new civilisation and uplifts it. Taox follows shortly after and brings warning of the Witness and rallies that new civilisation to try and fight it. They lose the fight, the traveler is forced to flee, and Taox flees with it. In all the stories both Taox and the Traveler get away, except for one; the Collapse. I can't recall any mention of anything resembling a character that could be Taox interacting with humanity prior to the collapse. What if Taox was prevented from reaching earth to warn humanity of The Witness and this is why the Traveler couldnt flee this time? It was forced to make a last stand to push back the against The Witness, and its last act was to create the ghosts to raise guardians to try to not only protect itself, but to survive and try to find Taox who holds the key to defeating the Witness? I think Taox is the Light's version of The Witness. Probably a long shot but thats where i'm at with the crackpot theories at the moment.
Saw another theory in the comments that Taox became the OXA Machine (sometimes called OXTA Machine. Toax? OXTA?), a sort of AI repository of Ecumene knowledge, which would've been found by the Cabal, which would mean the Cabal are actually using reverse engineered Ecumene technology.
All of that...all of that deep emotional storytelling... And all I can think is that I sincerely wish we could be a fly on the wall when Zavala has *that* conversation with Caiatl... What is even the Cabal version of birds and bees anyway?
Only thing that may have been missed is the fuss Calus makes about the worms that grow in the depths of gas giants where she crashed. As if they already know
I would love for more lore on the science behind the species of destiny. The baby eliksni hatching from eggs and being swaddled in silks like spiders is another great example
Additional note - I am currently reading Montefiore's book on the Romanov Tsars and the personal parallels are insane - Calus is Alexei I, Peter the Great, Catherine I, Catherine the Great, Paul and of course Ivan the Terrible all rolled into one. Not to mention there are definite Roman Emperor parallels as well. (in fact, any dynasty will have a parallel)
Something I remembered is that, at the end of a strike on Nessus, you kill the boss and find something mentioning the OXA, and Ghost says asks what OXA is, to which Zavala says, "that's a question for another day, I suppose." Looks like we finally have an answer.
When Ciaitl took the Ahamkara bones in her hand, it sounds like she had a wish in her heart. My gut says this wish led to the Zivu’s invasion.. wishdragon magic always comes with a cost.
Nice Cabal lore, but I hope we eventually learn the name of the main Cabal species (y'know, the space rhinos). We know the names of several Cabal client races. We know the name of the Fallen. We know the name of the proto-Hive. Yet we don't know the name of the leaders of the (formerly) greatest empire in the universe. 🤔
I love this analysis and the corresponding lore not just for the reasons you pointed out, but also because it truly does emphasize diversity and a rejection of common definitions of normality (what you pointed out likewise). The Destiny lore is brilliant.
Another interesting detail from the story is that Im pretty sure the Ahamkara bone did Grant him a wish. I think Caiatl is a wish from the bone. She never had any brothers from the same mother, It was a lone birth when with the second pregnancy there were Many more infants there. It would make sense because Calus wished someone to love, but What he got is someone who would ultimately be unable to love him back. Be It because herself or because he constantly did things that pushed her away. Ahamkara always twists their wishes to make miserable the lifes of those Who wish
I love any and all lore about the different aliens' biology and cultures, so this was awesome. Also I'm glad they explained why Umun Arath's name sounds Hive, because that always bothered me
Also don't forget they aren't human. A horse foal cal be up and running around in an hour, because they gestate faster and are more mature when they are born. This is also a possibility for cabal
I'm really hoping that we get a lore book in Lightfall that goes into depth of Calus before his revolution. What did he want? Was his revolution genuine? When did the hedonism and narcissism take over?
An archive takes new information and stores it within itself. Inversely, an anarchive takes an archive and seeds it within new information or a new medium. In other words, it is a replication of the same pattern in a different form. Odyle is another name for the vitalist concept of the Odenforce. || The graves of Aark……The Arkborn….. || How would Caiatl react if Calus were to tell her that her mother died because the Praetorate fed her to a pack of warbeasts? It’s very far-fetched and not actually how it turned out, but it would’ve added another layer of disorienting pain to their relationship in regards to her pets. The truth is still just as painful.
Amazing to think we not only heavily sympathize with a character from one of the main enemy races but we actively root for her. Crazy to think about where we were and where we are now story wise
We still don't know how to beat Xivu. Maybe if OXTA is Taox then she may help us beat Xivu. I have a theory that Taox became Vex or has become a computer in some way, either being uploaded to one or being made into a techno-organic creature. It's the only way to explain how she's still alive, having not taken a worm, and explains the way the talk about OXA
another thing this lore pointed out was that Caiatl shaved her tusks to fit in a pilot helmet (or maybe another reason) this is why her tusks looks "ornament-like"
"OXTA rearranged is Taox. Taox fled Fundament to escape the newly-formed Hive. Hives store honey. Honey is orange. The primary color in the key art for the Half-Life games is orange. Half-Life 3 confirmed."
One one hand Ghaul is an albino small statured Cabal so he could be suffering from birth defects from something like early pouch removal and Calus wife had to completly disown her children because Calus wouldn't allow bastard heirs to his empire. On the other we have no evidence positively confirming or hinting towards Ghaul being Calus son. We also don't know if the ages check out or not. So it seems possible since nothing disproves it there is also nothing to prove. So possible but maybe not probable.
The part where you said Caiatl 3 years old is different from human years makes sense. 1 Cabal year could be 4-5 human years. It's also making me think of Deliverance Lost from the Horus Heresy books, where someones daughter is 5 (different!) planet cycles old but is actually 17 Earth years
Calus is such a fascinating character. And as bad as he is, I still find myself with a small bit of sympathy for him. I mean, what sort of hole in his soul is there that he struggles to fill with all of the opulence? What caused him to be that way? I can't imagine it was anything good.

or they are counted to be birth once they come out of the fathers pouches. and they can spend years there. and come out as like compared to a 7yo child mentaly even thou they are "older*
This right here is my favorite comment on this video.

Magnet vs calus
@@eliaspanayi3465 Calus strat. Everyone equip magnet grenades lol.
Hmm. To me, it looks really gaudy. Which fits. In the trailer when he’s shown with it he says, “My semblance matches my inner beauty.” Considering how Calus has no inner beauty AT ALL, it’s fitting that his appearance has caught up with that. 😅
I hadn't thought of that but that absolutely sounds like it was on a character artist's moodboard for Calus somewhere.

Caiatl's name being derivative of Aiat explains why Joe Blackburn (I think it was Joe) would always pronounce her name so differently
ki-yat (like kayak) is also how Caiatl's name would be pronounced in the Nahuatl language, which, in Earthling terms, is where her name and the name Torobatl were derived. In that language, the "tl" denotes a glottal stop, not an "L" sound as most users of Western Euro languages would expect. This is the same language that gave us words like xocolatl, the root for chocolate, and Quetzalcoatl and Axolotl.

That one line sums up so much of why Caitl has daddy issues, especially once we get the deeper context from the rest of the book.

Ideas for what my Guardians should look like etc XD
Lore is very good the game I love and hate at the same time still very fun though
Honestly, that's so terrifying that an Ahamkara bone didn't work for Calus.
I don't know why that's so scary to me.

It's all derived from latin anyway.
Calus has to be my favorite villain of this game. So great to see his story focus again.

On the topic of Cabal 'Years':
One of the ideas about the Leviathan is that the miniature binary stars above the Leviathan are a nostalgic representation of Torobatl's system for the exiled emperor.
And for this, in that binary system, it has only two options:
a) "S-type": Orbit a single of the binary stars, which will be quite hot but also at least stable (a stable hot temperature is better for life as we can imagine it than extreme temperature fluctuations).
Watching all these videos pre lightfall is getting me even more hyped for the expansion. Thank you Byf for the years of content

The cabal biology was fascinating. I always assumed the tusks were ornaments and not actually part of them.
"Come and see me when you grow a pair as big as your mother's."

Sounds like Calus had fallen to Slaanesh LONG before The Witness found him.
I really do hope we go to Torobotl and retake it alongside Caiatl.
I actually love this. It makes the cabal feel alien. Entirely alien. Which fits well narratively.

The book also describes how calus starts to fall to darkness, and that he was eating odd things, like activated plutonium
This kinda plays into to what i've been thinking about for while now.
Maybe whats actually happening is:
The Traveler goes to a new civilisation and uplifts it.
We also neither see nor hear of any Taox, or Taox-like entity during the Whirlwind either.
The opening part of this REALLY brings weird light to Paul Tassi's Zavala x Caiatl fanfics.

Also I'm glad they explained why Umun Arath's name sounds Hive, because that always bothered me
So it's possible that Taox made a archive and somehow it ended up with the Psions? That reminds me of the blackbox that Liara made in Mass Effect 3.
Also don't forget they aren't human. A horse foal cal be up and running around in an hour, because they gestate faster and are more mature when they are born. This is also a possibility for cabal
It was really great to see you with the PlayStation Access on their podcast
I'm really hoping that we get a lore book in Lightfall that goes into depth of Calus before his revolution. What did he want? Was his revolution genuine? When did the hedonism and narcissism take over?
The biggest takeaway from this is that we could've missed out on an entire enemy faction if the cabal believed in therapy
That record scratch at the beginning was comedy gold. Definitely a narrative hook.😂
An archive takes new information and stores it within itself. Inversely, an anarchive takes an archive and seeds it within new information or a new medium. In other words, it is a replication of the same pattern in a different form.
Odyle is another name for the vitalist concept of the Odenforce.
|| The graves of Aark……The Arkborn….. ||
How would Caiatl react if Calus were to tell her that her mother died because the Praetorate fed her to a pack of warbeasts? It’s very far-fetched and not actually how it turned out, but it would’ve added another layer of disorienting pain to their relationship in regards to her pets. The truth is still just as painful.
that video of the cat going "huh?" like 4 times is me every I learn something new in this book
With the mention of Aiat and the whole library of fate and worlds, I thought that it was actually a reference to the World's Grave
Amazing to think we not only heavily sympathize with a character from one of the main enemy races but we actively root for her. Crazy to think about where we were and where we are now story wise
I'm soooooo intrigued by Caiatl's name and Umun Arath's name being connected to Hive language
I already knew too much about this game and now I know about cabal biology
I thought caitl’s tusks were a part of her helmet. Never knew female cabal have tusks. This video is very educational.
We still don't know how to beat Xivu. Maybe if OXTA is Taox then she may help us beat Xivu. I have a theory that Taox became Vex or has become a computer in some way, either being uploaded to one or being made into a techno-organic creature. It's the only way to explain how she's still alive, having not taken a worm, and explains the way the talk about OXA
another thing this lore pointed out was that Caiatl shaved her tusks to fit in a pilot helmet (or maybe another reason) this is why her tusks looks "ornament-like"
Do not apologize for the biology lesson. These odd little bits and facts of the wider universe are what helps keep me hooked.
Loved reading this and enjoyed hearing it from you. Got to love our empress.
I want Calus painted like a french girl to be an in game art piece on a wall somewhere.
The Cabal father weans them. Does that possibly mean that that 'royal nectar' that calus drinks is his own?
As gross as that sounds not really its ground up planets turned into whine.
@@moondust64 ohhh, ok. T/y for that. Idk how i missed learning that.
@@JackDittmann I think the only time its mentioned is during a throwaway bit of dialogue on Nessus.
"OXTA rearranged is Taox. Taox fled Fundament to escape the newly-formed Hive. Hives store honey. Honey is orange. The primary color in the key art for the Half-Life games is orange. Half-Life 3 confirmed."
So those underdeveloped offspring that Calus abbandoned.. Could one of them turn out to be Ghaul?
No, a young Ghaul was found by the Consul. He was abandoned elsewhere.
I love when people make aliens biology actually alien to humans, it's always a neat touch
I love you my man byf, I’ve been following since taken king but my dude 6 minutes explaining how the word pregnant might not translate to English is too much LOL. Keep up the good work I’m so excited for your light fall vids !!
