- Anansi the Spider pretends to be dead so he doesn't have to do any work.
(Come on, we've all pulled a sickie, just trust Ananse to take it to extremes)
Anansi or Ananse (literally 'spider') is an Akan folktale character associated with stories, wisdom, knowledge, and trickery, most commonly depicted as a spider. Taking the role of a trickster, he is also one of the most important 'Culture Heroes' of West African, African American and West Indian folklore.
Originating in Ghana, these spider tales were transmitted to the Caribbean by way of the transatlantic slave trade.
That's the thing with tricksters, they don't stay in one place, and like to move around, before anyone gets wise to their tricks!
This is part of my 'Trickster Makes This World' series of videos about the Archetype of the Trickster, and his many manifestations in world mythology.
