This song is about the uncertainty of death. It's about Anselmo's journey dying from AIDS. He's helpless, wasting away and it's all moving so fast. He's crying for help, but it's too late. "Take me to a place where a child can grow." He wants another chance to correct the actions that sealed his fate. "save me" he says throughout the song. He concludes the song with "cold water" rushing in, life leaving his body and he would beg to be forgiven if he knew his sin. He has nothing to atone for because all he did was live his life and that couldn't be "sinful" right? Deep song. Miss you, George.
In my opinion, it is about letting go. Letting go the love for the lost one. You cry for help but in reality you dont want it, you want to mourn. Nobody can help you and you're just a sinner because you loved too much.The wounds are self inflicted and there is no way anybody can heal them but you. You feel completely hopeless and the river just takes you to places you have never imagined to be. You can swim but then when you are about to take a first stroke, the voice in your head tells you no. You want to drown. You dont want to live but you know that you must carry on. You look around for a fantasy (probably new love) and ask river to take you to the places where the child (the enormous sadness) can grow and let you go. Despite your effort to get out you are still going down and wondering what is you sin? Can it really be that you love that much?

They had broken up few time, and the last one she'd broke up with him on Xmas Day. They're separated and she decided to have gone away. Sadly they both still had the same feelings. It's destiny how they had met again and again throughout their times. If God's plans that they would have met each other again. They've reunited in their old age. She'd the same faith that their fates were challenged and both had said their prayer before he was passed away. God had blessed them, HE had given GM's talents.
It took the maturity and life experience Michael had at this point to make this beautiful album. This track showcases his genius and otherworldly voice. Truly incomparable.

This song, The Strangest Thing (my favorite of all his tunes) and Through - are such incredibly beautiful poignant, incisive lyrics describing depression - and, so painfully relatable (not a bad thing) - He knew how to express the depth of emotions many of us feel but can't put into such immediate accessible language.
