  • How to change keys is a common question I get asked by students. In this video, I want to show you the easiest way I know for guitar players to change keys.

Thank you Dylan, this reminded me of a very similar hack I use - in the major key, lets say A, I would simply play the barre chords on that initial shape you are using to find your numbers - same with the minor key but it is a different shape of course, but in the same area, lets say, in the key of A minor, starting at fret 5 , using the shape... [E string]A, B, C.....[A String]D, E, F....[D String] G you can simply play the barre chords on these notes in that area ... a B Cdm d e F G ............. then of course you can simply move these shapes all over the guitar to play in any key, as long as it is barre chords of course ... but using this method to also work out the open chord numbers is also extremely useful.

I thought this video was going to be about moving from one key to the other whilst playing not just transcribing.
Ie the best chords or intervals to play in one key that neatly uses common notes as you approach the key change, ie you want to change from key 1 to the jey that is the maj 3rd of that key so mabe go to the 1st keys 5th then major 7th to fall into the major 3rd as thats the 5th note of the major 3rds key.
Some simple formula to understand this better, now that would be a new type of video ❤

When is it easier to just use a capo?

Depends on the situation but I still use this system whether or not I’m using a capo
