Euronymphing for Winter Grayling | Scotland | River Clydew

- In this video I spend a few hours euro nymphing for grayling on the Clyde in Lanarkshire on a cold January morning. I ended the session with 5 grayling in the net, 1 that got away and 1 that broke my leader (although I didn't catch them all on the GoPro).
The fish all succumbed to a size 18 micro PTN, and I have a tutorial for tying that fly over on the Angling Scotland channel. Check it out at • Pheasant Tail Jig | Ty...
The session was also my first chance to test out a few goodies from my new friends over at www.guideflyfis... . The 3wt 10 ft Vision Nymphmaniac rod and Rio Euro Nymphing line and leader felt like they were taylor made for the river Clyde and handled heavy flies, 3 split shot and feisty fish with great aplomb.
As always, feel free to drop me a comment and I'll be back with another video in a wee bit!
Hey - random question - do you do any guiding? I've just moved to ayrshire and am keen to explore the clyde, the carts, etc.
If youre ever fishing the lower clyde, there are a few wee tributaries that I used to fish that nobody casts to anymore. The biggest fish I've caught there was a brownie of about 2lb, but I've seen bigger in the past year or two. Theres a decent run of sea trout up to about 5lb, and a few small salmon have been caught there too. It's a bit overgrown and sketchy underfoot in a few places, but if you're willing to put the effort in it can be a good days fishing. PM me and I'll give you the map ref, where to park and how to get down to the water etc.
Whereabouts is this mate? I Love casting wee burns. Cheers
Some nice January fly fishing,
Hi good video 🙂 can u tell me where that is ur fishing thanks
Cheers mate, it’s the bottom of the Clyde valley between Garrion and Milton-Lockhart 👍🏼
Thanks alot m8 nice of u to get back to me tight lines 👌
Any ideas on guides in icelamd ....... your videos look the business
Thanks Joe! I've never fished Iceland with a guide to be honest but most of the lodges can arrange guides for you depending on where you are fishing. Next time I fish the West Ranga river, I'm 100% booking a guide through the lodge. We spent so much time driving around looking for access and only found trout in a very small section of the river!
Your a gid Fisher pal,the Clyde is a smashing river,I've been a wild Fisher for nearly sixty years ,love watching the videos especially in Scotland, make them myself ,never put any up in utube, haven't got a computer just an ipad, watch them on the telly, get a good laugh at me swearing like a trooper, not computer literate, the only thing I don't like about yours and other people's videos is the crap music use all play, sorry pal just my opinion, keep the videos coming ,I can always turn the volume down ,tight lines and stay safe.
Thanks Douglas! It's one of those rivers that can be amazing one day and seemingly devoid of fish the next. I haven't been out much this winter for obvious reasons but I'm looking forward to a few grayling sessions this winter if the situation allows it. Tight lines, pal :)
Nice
Fishing wi' yer hand in yer pocket? Ye nivver learned that fae me!
Nice music!
And here I thought euro nymphing meant buying an interrail ticket and getting an STI from a Dutch woman.
Slick video though, mate. Makes me want to give it a go myself
