I've had a 2022 IS-500 for over a year now. From my local dealership, two of these cars were sold last year. The first, a launch model, was totaled within 5 blocks of the dealership. Details were not given, but I believe the driver did not grow up in the age of powerful V8's like I did. I have the Performance Plus Model, Caviar (black) in color. I was looking for a car with a great luxury ride where I didn't feel "beat up" on long drives, like I felt with my IS-350, but a performance car when I wanted to use it as such. The reviews say that the magic happens when the accelerator is 3/4 of the way to the floor. Absolutely agree. Hitting those winding roads is exciting, and very few cars will be able to keep up with this one. I like "stealth" cars. For those who want a much sportier performance car should look at the LC500. It doesn't want to change direction? I've literally autocrossed an IS 500 - which is probably the worst environment for the car in terms of handling due to its longish wheelbase and weight - and it surprised me how well it changed direction at those low speeds. I honestly think that this observation, along with your comments of this being a "boat" are due to you coming into this review with preconceived notions that this car would drive "like a Lexus". Have you ever driven a BMW X3? It does not feel like a 3-series. Similarly, a Lexus RX and IS are for two different customers and do not feel the same. The IS is a sport sedan like the 3-series. It doesn't have an over-damped suspension like an 3-series M Sport (which I've owned), but it still handles great. There's some body roll, but in my opinion, the ride quality is worth it. It rides amazingly well. I'd rather have that than a sedan that pretends to be a sports car. Overall, this was a nice little review, but having owned this car for a few months now, it felt like a bit of a disservice to immediately jump into saying the car feels heavy or reluctant to turn. I did appreciate the nice POV format and you actually talking through it while driving.
