  • Breaks Interstate Park, on the border of Virginia and Kentucky, partners with the DWR (Department of Wildlife Resources) to do Elk Viewing Tours. The staff made us feel so welcome. We got to see a herd of elk in the wild during rut season. Hearing elk bugle in person is AMAZING!

This video explains how elk were brought back to the eastern US, especially the Virginia & Kentucky regions. Viewing of elk starts around 8:00 minutes into this video.

Looked like a great tour. Lots of interesting information. I’ve always heard the saying “deer in the headlights”…now you can say, elk in the headlights 😁👍

I know it made for a long video, but Jackie's information was great. Had to include it.

    Great video!
I love the bugling of the Elk! It's crazy that, that sound comes out of them. I had one do that right behind me as I was airing up my tires after a long day driving the dirt roads.
    Great tour bus speaker.
    Thanks for taking us along😁

Wow, that must've been amazing! I had only heard them on TV until this. I'm glad we're repopulating elk. Such cool creatures! 😁

@@icebearhikes it was amazing, but also scary. I didn't put my antlers on that day so I wasn't ready for a clash 😁
      They're beautiful animals and big.

Nice video. In the 1970s, CT tried to bring back turkeys. By the early 1990s they were pests. Bears, moose, deer, bobcats, fisher cars, coyotes, wolves, and pumas came back on their own. Most farms closed in the last quarter of the 20th century. Some became subdivisions but, many are just fallow. The government had bought up the development rights. Have fun. Good Luck, Rick

The history fascinates me. There are a good many claims to mountain lion sightings out here on the east coast... I believe we may see their comeback.

@@icebearhikesThey already have. The state governments deny their existance because they don't want to spend the money that the feds require to protect them if they are back. We've had mountain lions in eastern CT and RI since the 1980s. Sunny Point, NC had a panther in the 1980s when I was there with the Army. Be careful when you're out. Good Luck, Rick

In PA we don't have them central or southern areas... yet. They're abundant up north. They travel a good bit, so I hope to see them get to my neck of the woods in my lifetime. And if you ever find a horn shed, pack it out!! They're worth a lot of money. Crafters use them to carve. One guy on the bus said they were costing him hundreds each.
