I bought a backbone last week, but it feels like playing the switch as a hand held. I have large hands and i hated it. My Galileo is in the way and the backbone has been returned. Thank you to you and the RUclips algorithm for placing this video in my feed.

@@GameBrainerz I ordered it in December and due to weather the delivery service was not able to deliver it. I have called the service for times to check on it and it's always "we'll escalate this to our manager." I have emailed Gamesir and all they say is to contact the delivery service. So I'm out $80+, I would really like to like it but the customer service has been awful. It looked like a great controller for big hands.
Your video was the final video I needed to convince me to return my backbone and buy this one. I was disappointed in watching numerous other videos from other RUclips creators who all stated it wasn't compatible with Playstation Remote Play and required third-party apps. You are the only one who figured out how to switch the modes that allow the controller use the Sony Remote Play and get it to work on Android phones. I have a Fold 5 and have been using my Gamesir X2 with the PSPlay app since the X2 feels better than the backbone but I haven't been able to figure out how to use PSPlay without being on my wifi at home. I'm going to use your link on payday to get this controller. I was going to keep the Backbone so that I can play remote when away from home but not anymore. Thank you for such an informative video. Oh and I became a subscriber as well.

How are you liking it? My first controller was a big ipega I bought like 10 years ago lol. I'm finding my mobile gaming and remote play needs going up the older I get lol. I'm driving between the backbone and g8. From what I've heard the backbone is smaller like joycons and even the sticks? And the G8 is bigger etc... they do the same thing and just have different apps?
@@itsAphelion. I like the G8 far better. The backbone felt too small. The size of the G8 makes it feel a lot more comfortable in my hands when using it.
@@itsAphelion. Arguably, the G8 does more because it can spoof itself as various controllers whereas the Backbone does not. But if you go Backbone, just make sure to take the Playstation version and you eliminate most of that (except screen mapping). The G8 demolishes the Backbone comfort wise as well but to do that, it is a larger form-factor, maybe you want something more discret and small. Comparing the Backbone to a joycon is somewhat of a fair assessment but joycons feel better and are taller, making them a bit more comfortable for me personally, however I still think the comparison is fitting. The G8 on the other hand, you'd want to compare more to a Series controller, it feels like nudging your phone between a gamepad that resembles your 1st party Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo game controller. It's just of a different league altogether.
The sticks feels incredible, even better than my dualsense joystick ☠️, anyway playing monster hunter world via remote play with this controller is amazing 😎🤙

@smokiLLL You have a few remapping possible that will pertain but they are presets, like changing from xbox layout to nintendo layout (ABXY BAYX). You need the software though and I think the options might not appear on iOS.
if you have a recent iphone or samsung, rumble can be enabled in a lot of apps using the phone's vibration. i actually really like it compared to a cheaply employed rumble of a controller
Indeed, the haptic vibrations found in phones share way more with joycons HD rumble so the layering of the vibration is quite defined and in that sense, more pleasant for some, I prefer them too. Cheers!
Could you make a video on how to use this with Call of Duty Mobile please? I have the Redmagic version of this controller and can't seem to figure out how to map the buttons where they operate correctly.
Hmmm.... My production schedule is at capacity at the time being but tell me this, have you tried cycling through the different modes? You can do so by holding Select and Start for a few seconds and you should see the LED light change from blue > light blue > green. Try all three modes, one of them should work. Let me know if that worked for you!

The controller might not have haptics, but most games use the phone's in-built vibration haptics so you feel it in your hands a lot anyway, especially if you have an high end phone. So the controller no having haptics is not a problem at all
You're right, I should've mentioned it. The thing too is Android doesn't have a proper rumble API for their controller driver so it needs to come from a third-party, such as PSPlay rerouting in-game rumble to the device's haptics, as you pointed out. Thanks for that clarification for viewers!
@@GameTechTalk well Android actually has very advanced haptics API similar if not better than the Apple haptics API, since Android 11, perfected even more in Android 12. Many newer games are slowly starting to use it, and phones UI that already use it to its max potential are for example OneUI from Samsung which has insanely good haptics on every small thing in the user interface. But you are right about the "controller rumble" part. It's a bit "forgotten" currently by Google. But games that use the device vibration instead of the controller, or that let you choose, are a great way to solve this problem currently. I think Gamesir did a good move in skipping rumble. That's why their G8 is constantly on sale for 60-65€ on many stores and still with amazing build quality, buttons and everything else. Can't have everything for that price. And it's better to not pay for rumble, than to pay and have a shitty noisy implementation. But as always, I hope their next one has "good" rumble, even if Android doesn't correctly support it yet, it's future proof.
Just read that Android 12 actually added support for advanced haptics on controllers too, even thought not as advanced yet as the in-device haptics, but still a lot more advanced than what was possible before. So they are working on it. Guess having good haptics on the next gamesir product will actually be a good idea since android is improving this very fast

Hello 👋 I just checked out this video after you recommended it to me from your Abxylute video, and I was so close to purchasing this until I finally realised... I don't have a USB-C phone. I'm considering just getting a cheap android tablet instead and grabbing this. Curious to know if you have any budget tablet recommendations? I mean, at that point, should I just grab something already prebuilt? In the meantime I think I need to give my old PS Vita some love, and see how much screen size really does matter to me. A tablet that could fit that agenda would be the iPlay 50 Mini Pro from Alldocube, however, I would STRONGLY recommend you buy it from Amazon and not AliExpress. I bought two and both the USB-C connectors came undone after removing the USB-C cables... It did one, two days later it did the other. If not for that, they did a fantastic job overall and at low cost. If you have more to spare, I'd look into the Lenovo Legion tablets. Massive growth in performance, build quality from Lenovo has always been solid and you get a 144hz panel. I'm pretty sure ETA Prime recently did a video about the Y700, that could be a great piece of content where to start. Cheers!

@@kingdumb9692 I found it from a RetroBreeze video that he mentioned it, pretty sure he has a review on it too. I bit the bullet and bought two. For Remote Play, it is great! Even emulation and local gaming in general! In a nutshell, it’s got a great balance between value and performance/quality. I had zero issues prior to the connectors staying in cables but I think I just had a bad batch to be honest, 2 back to back was just too abnormal. Beyond that, I had no audio issues, no weird panel behavior, everything was just fine truth be told, paired with a Galileo G8, sky’s the limit. Cheers! 😊

You are very convincing lol. I am so on the fence. I’m imagining a couple scenarios of where what if I’m in public, would I want to whip that G8 out or would I be more comfortable carrying around the backbone. It’s almost like portability vs comfort. I’ve heard backbone may be a little more seamless of an experience with the app, but the price of the g8 certainly is appealing. I do like rumble myself. One thing I weigh in is I have. Steam deck that remote plays ok but Chiaki on Steam Deck is crap for me out of the house. Watch though the times I will want a longer game session maybe I will want the g8. (I have basketball-gripping hands lol. One thing I remember seeing was the g8 app had privacy concerns, but idk if I care or should haha. Too many questions keeping me from pulling the trigger on either.
Totally, from a portable standpoint, the Backbone wins hands down. To me, the G8 is that kind of product that will make you pick the "no compromise" approach because it's that much more comfortable. The best example I could give is Crocs 😅 Some people would definitely say: "Nope, I don't care that it's comfortable, it's ugly, I'm not wearing it". At the end of the day, I will prioritize comfort, even if it means looking a little "not fashionable" when I go out! As for the app, it's more fluff than actual usability but it is true that the Backbone app is better designed, are you going to use it more because it is? That is the question I value most and for me the answer is no I won't. It's not better in terms of feature, just design. Otherwise I might have thought differently. I like a market where both controllers can find success but I was able to go back from a Backbone to something else, I can't go back from a G8 personally, I do have a Kishi Ultra on the way so we'll see if that rings true... Found this channel while watching G8 reviews. Great review and great production value. Went through the various talking points efficiently and you are also pleasant to hear. One question, how did you play with the official Remoteplay app without the buttons showing on the screen? Every other person I watched either had it on the screen or was using the PSplay app that hides them if you don't touch the screen. One of the reviews the PS mode of the controller wasn't even working.
That is the part I'm most confused with too. I watched RGC's review and I can tell you, I am not doing anything special. I plugged in the controller, I booted PS Remote Play, swapped to the "white mode" by holding Select + Start and it just worked, yet it didn't for him and Russ is very thorough, he knows his stuff. My guess is maybe some of the bigger reviewers got an earlier engineered review sample than the one I got? For the record, that's also not device specific, Remote Play worked on my Galaxy Fold 4, on my Redmagic 8 Pro and also on my Tab S8 Ultra which you can confirm with the other video I have on my channel about the Galileo G8. @@GameTechTalk Hi, just to let you or anyone reading that it works with the official remote play app with no problems, the on-screen buttons disappear just like in your video. Probably a firmware update resolved the issue a while back.
compatibility is awsome, i use it with my iphone 15 with a damn thick case and its solid af i think im gonna mod it to have the metal xbox elite dpad and sticks and maybe recolor it with spray paint
@@GameTechTalk actually i modded it with a magsafe conversion kit on the back, i put my magsafe battery pack and a 90 degree usbc 20cm cable on both side and i have a x2 battery without magsafe heating issues while gaming

It depends, most phones that are 5 years old or less would be more versatile overall, more power, better screen, better just about everything really. However, a phone is a phone, so if you have one to dedicate to your gaming, forget the next part, the phone is the better option. If you mean to add purpose to your daily driver as a gaming device, that's where the water gets muddied. The fun part with a dedicated handheld such as the RP3+ is that you can really tailor it to be a very "purpose" drive handheld towards gaming exclusively. Different launchers, different interface, twaks such as "one app opened exclusive", screen mapping already included, etc... Ultimately, it makes for a more pleasurable experience. But with that said, from a comfort and control perspective, though the RP3+ is awesome and overall great, the Galileo G8 is in an absolutely different league. As in, it is far superior control and comfort wise.

Hey Felix! It can but maybe not in the way you'd think? The USB-C plug for charging can't be used for plugging it on a device, rather you need a USB-C female to male connector and that will work just fine. Keep in mind that it won't if the other end is Lightning because Apple be Apple'ing of course, but USB-C or USB-A does work. 🤣
Really wish they had a black edition :/ this "silver"/ps1 gray is kinda meh and if they do eventually add faceplates you'll be stuck with gray back anyways. A lot of colors go way better in contrast with black. You'd think they'd at least offer 2 color options.
They have a smoky black version coming that has been commissioned by RedMagic, the cellphone brand. You may want to keep your eyes peeled for that version. ;)

I've watched the Retro Handhelds CES summary video, they talked about it a bit but past that, I don't know nothing specific no. For all intents and purposes, it'll be the exact same controller with a native support for iPhone 15s. I wouldn't be surprised if that model has 2 modes rather than 3, so there should definitely be some variables from a software side of things but all that is assumptions on my part, I know nothing that would be "official" information about the variant itself.

My very first Backbone did break within a few months of ownership, the warranty experience was extremely positive I must say. Ever since, the three other I owned have had zero issues, here's to hoping they tightened their QC.
Do you mean on Amazon? I see it as 4.3 on the US site, 4.1 on Canadian one. But either way, I think this product is hurtful to other brands. Straight up. Does it fit everyone's purpose of a mobile controller though? Not necessarily, Backbone is way more pocketable for example. But the fact still is GameSir did better than the competition for less money and they effectively went somewhere no other brands went, which is to bring a living room console quality controller to the telescopic format. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

I doubt it? The only reason being that I'm about certain that the USB-C handles charge, but not OTG. In other words, there is no data moving out of that USB-C, or at least historically, it usually doesn't. So I doubt what you'd want to do would work but let me know your findings, I'd be happy to have confirmation. Cheers!
Both my 15 Pro Max and Galaxy Fold 4 work with a case but they are both slim cases. So I'd say your mileage may vary and I do have to give it a slight nudge but once I do, the connection is sound until I disconnect again. Cheers!
I've 2 options to choose, Galileo and X2 Pro. X2 pro doesn't has headphone jack, a dealbreaker for me. And galileo which isn't as compact as X2 pro. Now I'm confused if should I wait for a controller to launch with best of both controllers or just buy the galileo coz it's ergo. and has a headphone jack. Help me...
Having both, for me it’s a no-brainer. The Galileo G8, while not as compact, is WAY superior at everything else. It’s also not as bulky as you may think. The X2 Pro, is more compact yes, but not by THAT MUCH, but for everything else, it is just not able to compete with the G8. If you’ve watched multiple reviews by now, you’ll know most if not all came to the same conclusion. There is before and after the G8, this controller will probably reshape the market entirely. I hope this helps.
I'd end up buying them all! When I'm not sure I'll buy everything I'm interested then I'll test them out and then when i find the one that works for me I'll stick with that one and sell or giveaway the rest to friends or family

As long as it is a slim case, there is no reason for that solution not to work with a S23. I wish I had a S23 to confirm that information for you but unfortunately, I do not.
No, even with a slim case it's not. I have a S22 Ultra which is similar size. The problem is not the length, but the height of the USB C connector. It's too short, it goes in but not deep enough so the phone does not detect any connection
So specs say 1mm thick or less should work. In the video, I'm using a silicone case bought from the Apple store directly. Thanks, I appreciate the support!
How did you get your iphone to play with the case on? I have the standard apple silicon case and it connects for a second but stops a few seconds later.
I don't recall doing anything particular. I just gave it a nudge so that the connection is robust but that's what I always do. Outside of that, nothing out of ordinary.
bought as an upgrade to my cheap bluetooth controller, ended up using the cheap bluetooth controller, the gamesir g8 is not comfortable for me, way to thick.
You have to go in input settings after which you can map your inputs. It usually gets picked up without having to map anything but should you want to make things different, that's where you do it first. Subsequently, you can map your inputs specifically per core as well. You want to make sure to save after you do to not have to redo this everytime. The thing with the Galileo G8 is that, it's almost to the point that it shouldn't be compared with the Backbone One because it is in a different category altogether. The Backbone One is light, compact and decent quality wise, but it's a mobile controller. The Galileo G8 feels like you took a console controller (that are way more comfortable) and you split it in two, it's in a different league.
Sorry for the confusion, much like what @duongnhdn said, I believe you won't need the Backbone One after having used the Galileo G8. In more literal words, I would return the Backbone One if I was in your position.@@KsAmJ
I think it feels great. I find rubberized and dotted grips have about the same effect, I can't say I favor one over the other. As long as the texture changes really and this one does that with a dotted grip so I'm happy with the result.
Because there is no little tabs sticking out like there is on the Backbone, there is virtually no phone that wouldn't fit in there. Granted, it needs to have a USB-C plug and be running at least Android 8 or more recent. Even an RoG Phone that has off-center plug work with this, awkwardly mind you, but it works nonetheless.

Unfortunately, I have not review that product but I would refer you to the newer iteration of the Backbone One. I am being told that they have a system that makes it the most compatible controller with a wide variety of phone cases. Hopefully, the comfort will be to your liking. I like the Backbone One but after using the Galileo G8, I'd be lying if I said it's easy to go back to anything else. It's not.
@@GameTechTalk I agree. I already bought the first iteration of Backbone and returned it. My biggest problem was the handles were too small and made my hands ache using it. But it didn't work with the case on either. Its so much work to take my phone in and out of its case its not made to be removed 3x a day its a PITA

They'll have to at some point, so many people are requesting such a product. I think they're just giving themselves some breathing room and maybe gathering a bit more data to see if they make some slight alterations.

Can the abxy be reconfigured on the controller? Like taking it out and rearranging them like Nintendo buttons. Are they magnetically attached like X2 Pro?
Great question, they are not magnetic. They have little tabs like buttons usually do, you can actually see the tabs when removing the right side cover but also, the B (much like on a King Kong 2 Pro) is not exactly the same height as the other three buttons, so swapping them would make for an awkward feeling. I have no idea at this point in time if GameSir intends to release replacement buttons at this point in time but if ever they see this, I would hope they consider it as one of the bigger asks for this product seems to be different colors.

I almost backed that one but decided it was too dialed-in into that "ULTIMATE GAMER RGB SICK CURVES FUTURISTIC LOOKING" aesthetic. It may be a bit harsh but it kind of gave me that "smokes and mirrors" kind of feel that ultimately made me wonder if it was really going to be that good, or more a 25US chinese controller praised to be 5-6 times the price. Have backers received their controllers yet?
I agree it was a bit too far out presentation with ELO. Didn’t need all that. However because I was desperate for one that I could use with my case I did do a preorder and cancelled it the moment I learned about this and haven’t regretted it. I was a bit bummed that the app for IOS wint have the upgrade but like the CEO said that is due to Apple’s wall garden and as an Apple guy I am familiar with it so they can only do so much. The hot keys are good enough. Also I am still able to use this with my case on the 15 pro max so it’s all good.

The ps backbone did it for me on the 15 pro max, first mobile controller and it’s perfect, only flaw for me was the thumb sticks being a little too small which I replaced with Nintendo switch ones, the gamesir seems great from what I’ve been hearing, but I just overall don’t prefer the bulker look/design over the backbones, it’s too unique in my eyes.
No one can argue with having options right? The Backbone is a fantastic mobile controller, the Galileo G8 is a fantastic console controller for mobile.
I bought a backbone last week, but it feels like playing the switch as a hand held. I have large hands and i hated it. My Galileo is in the way and the backbone has been returned. Thank you to you and the RUclips algorithm for placing this video in my feed.

@@GameBrainerz I ordered it in December and due to weather the delivery service was not able to deliver it. I have called the service for times to check on it and it's always "we'll escalate this to our manager." I have emailed Gamesir and all they say is to contact the delivery service. So I'm out $80+, I would really like to like it but the customer service has been awful. It looked like a great controller for big hands.
Sadly it did not work on my S23 ultra, So I went with the backbone

Your video was the final video I needed to convince me to return my backbone and buy this one. I was disappointed in watching numerous other videos from other RUclips creators who all stated it wasn't compatible with Playstation Remote Play and required third-party apps. You are the only one who figured out how to switch the modes that allow the controller use the Sony Remote Play and get it to work on Android phones. I have a Fold 5 and have been using my Gamesir X2 with the PSPlay app since the X2 feels better than the backbone but I haven't been able to figure out how to use PSPlay without being on my wifi at home. I'm going to use your link on payday to get this controller. I was going to keep the Backbone so that I can play remote when away from home but not anymore. Thank you for such an informative video. Oh and I became a subscriber as well.

My first controller was a big ipega I bought like 10 years ago lol. I'm finding my mobile gaming and remote play needs going up the older I get lol. I'm driving between the backbone and g8. From what I've heard the backbone is smaller like joycons and even the sticks? And the G8 is bigger etc... they do the same thing and just have different apps?
@@itsAphelion. I like the G8 far better. The backbone felt too small. The size of the G8 makes it feel a lot more comfortable in my hands when using it.
@@itsAphelion. Arguably, the G8 does more because it can spoof itself as various controllers whereas the Backbone does not. But if you go Backbone, just make sure to take the Playstation version and you eliminate most of that (except screen mapping).
The G8 demolishes the Backbone comfort wise as well but to do that, it is a larger form-factor, maybe you want something more discret and small. Comparing the Backbone to a joycon is somewhat of a fair assessment but joycons feel better and are taller, making them a bit more comfortable for me personally, however I still think the comparison is fitting.
The G8 on the other hand, you'd want to compare more to a Series controller, it feels like nudging your phone between a gamepad that resembles your 1st party Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo game controller. It's just of a different league altogether.
The sticks feels incredible, even better than my dualsense joystick ☠️,

I have been using the Black Magic Shadow Blade 2 with the Red Magic 8s pro. Shadow Blade 2 is the same controller. Different branding and color.

@smokiLLL You have a few remapping possible that will pertain but they are presets, like changing from xbox layout to nintendo layout (ABXY BAYX). You need the software though and I think the options might not appear on iOS.

if you have a recent iphone or samsung, rumble can be enabled in a lot of apps using the phone's vibration. i actually really like it compared to a cheaply employed rumble of a controller
Indeed, the haptic vibrations found in phones share way more with joycons HD rumble so the layering of the vibration is quite defined and in that sense, more pleasant for some, I prefer them too. Cheers!
Could you make a video on how to use this with Call of Duty Mobile please? I have the Redmagic version of this controller and can't seem to figure out how to map the buttons where they operate correctly.
Hmmm.... My production schedule is at capacity at the time being but tell me this, have you tried cycling through the different modes? You can do so by holding Select and Start for a few seconds and you should see the LED light change from blue > light blue > green. Try all three modes, one of them should work. Let me know if that worked for you!

The controller might not have haptics, but most games use the phone's in-built vibration haptics so you feel it in your hands a lot anyway, especially if you have an high end phone. So the controller no having haptics is not a problem at all
You're right, I should've mentioned it. The thing too is Android doesn't have a proper rumble API for their controller driver so it needs to come from a third-party, such as PSPlay rerouting in-game rumble to the device's haptics, as you pointed out. Thanks for that clarification for viewers!
@@GameTechTalk well Android actually has very advanced haptics API similar if not better than the Apple haptics API, since Android 11, perfected even more in Android 12. Many newer games are slowly starting to use it, and phones UI that already use it to its max potential are for example OneUI from Samsung which has insanely good haptics on every small thing in the user interface. But you are right about the "controller rumble" part. It's a bit "forgotten" currently by Google. But games that use the device vibration instead of the controller, or that let you choose, are a great way to solve this problem currently. I think Gamesir did a good move in skipping rumble. That's why their G8 is constantly on sale for 60-65€ on many stores and still with amazing build quality, buttons and everything else. Can't have everything for that price. And it's better to not pay for rumble, than to pay and have a shitty noisy implementation. But as always, I hope their next one has "good" rumble, even if Android doesn't correctly support it yet, it's future proof.
Just read that Android 12 actually added support for advanced haptics on controllers too, even thought not as advanced yet as the in-device haptics, but still a lot more advanced than what was possible before. So they are working on it. Guess having good haptics on the next gamesir product will actually be a good idea since android is improving this very fast

I'm considering just getting a cheap android tablet instead and grabbing this. Curious to know if you have any budget tablet recommendations?

A tablet that could fit that agenda would be the iPlay 50 Mini Pro from Alldocube, however, I would STRONGLY recommend you buy it from Amazon and not AliExpress. I bought two and both the USB-C connectors came undone after removing the USB-C cables... It did one, two days later it did the other. If not for that, they did a fantastic job overall and at low cost.
If you have more to spare, I'd look into the Lenovo Legion tablets. Massive growth in performance, build quality from Lenovo has always been solid and you get a 144hz panel. I'm pretty sure ETA Prime recently did a video about the Y700, that could be a great piece of content where to start. Cheers!

@@kingdumb9692 I found it from a RetroBreeze video that he mentioned it, pretty sure he has a review on it too. I bit the bullet and bought two. For Remote Play, it is great! Even emulation and local gaming in general!
In a nutshell, it’s got a great balance between value and performance/quality. I had zero issues prior to the connectors staying in cables but I think I just had a bad batch to be honest, 2 back to back was just too abnormal.
Beyond that, I had no audio issues, no weird panel behavior, everything was just fine truth be told, paired with a Galileo G8, sky’s the limit. Cheers! 😊

I ended up grabbing a G Cloud on eBay for $200 USD! Shipping was a bit expensive but hoping I have a great experience once it arrives.

You are very convincing lol. I am so on the fence. I’m imagining a couple scenarios of where what if I’m in public, would I want to whip that G8 out or would I be more comfortable carrying around the backbone. It’s almost like portability vs comfort. I’ve heard backbone may be a little more seamless of an experience with the app, but the price of the g8 certainly is appealing. I do like rumble myself. One thing I weigh in is I have. Steam deck that remote plays ok but Chiaki on Steam Deck is crap for me out of the house. Watch though the times I will want a longer game session maybe I will want the g8. (I have basketball-gripping hands lol. One thing I remember seeing was the g8 app had privacy concerns, but idk if I care or should haha. Too many questions keeping me from pulling the trigger on either.
Totally, from a portable standpoint, the Backbone wins hands down. To me, the G8 is that kind of product that will make you pick the "no compromise" approach because it's that much more comfortable.
The best example I could give is Crocs 😅 Some people would definitely say: "Nope, I don't care that it's comfortable, it's ugly, I'm not wearing it". At the end of the day, I will prioritize comfort, even if it means looking a little "not fashionable" when I go out!
As for the app, it's more fluff than actual usability but it is true that the Backbone app is better designed, are you going to use it more because it is? That is the question I value most and for me the answer is no I won't. It's not better in terms of feature, just design. Otherwise I might have thought differently.
I like a market where both controllers can find success but I was able to go back from a Backbone to something else, I can't go back from a G8 personally, I do have a Kishi Ultra on the way so we'll see if that rings true... Found this channel while watching G8 reviews. Great review and great production value. Went through the various talking points efficiently and you are also pleasant to hear.
One question, how did you play with the official Remoteplay app without the buttons showing on the screen? Every other person I watched either had it on the screen or was using the PSplay app that hides them if you don't touch the screen. One of the reviews the PS mode of the controller wasn't even working.
That is the part I'm most confused with too. I watched RGC's review and I can tell you, I am not doing anything special. I plugged in the controller, I booted PS Remote Play, swapped to the "white mode" by holding Select + Start and it just worked, yet it didn't for him and Russ is very thorough, he knows his stuff.
My guess is maybe some of the bigger reviewers got an earlier engineered review sample than the one I got? For the record, that's also not device specific, Remote Play worked on my Galaxy Fold 4, on my Redmagic 8 Pro and also on my Tab S8 Ultra which you can confirm with the other video I have on my channel about the Galileo G8. Great review! Would you recomend controller+ recent android phone combo over something like the retroid 3+ ?
It depends, most phones that are 5 years old or less would be more versatile overall, more power, better screen, better just about everything really. However, a phone is a phone, so if you have one to dedicate to your gaming, forget the next part, the phone is the better option. If you mean to add purpose to your daily driver as a gaming device, that's where the water gets muddied.
The fun part with a dedicated handheld such as the RP3+ is that you can really tailor it to be a very "purpose" drive handheld towards gaming exclusively. Different launchers, different interface, twaks such as "one app opened exclusive", screen mapping already included, etc... Ultimately, it makes for a more pleasurable experience. But with that said, from a comfort and control perspective, though the RP3+ is awesome and overall great, the Galileo G8 is in an absolutely different league. As in, it is far superior control and comfort wise.

Hey Felix! It can but maybe not in the way you'd think? The USB-C plug for charging can't be used for plugging it on a device, rather you need a USB-C female to male connector and that will work just fine. Keep in mind that it won't if the other end is Lightning because Apple be Apple'ing of course, but USB-C or USB-A does work. 🤣
Really wish they had a black edition :/ this "silver"/ps1 gray is kinda meh and if they do eventually add faceplates you'll be stuck with gray back anyways. A lot of colors go way better in contrast with black. You'd think they'd at least offer 2 color options.
They have a smoky black version coming that has been commissioned by RedMagic, the cellphone brand. You may want to keep your eyes peeled for that version. ;)

There is a new Apple MFI variant of the G8 Galileo apparently and it was showcased at the CES. Did you hear anything about it yet?
I've watched the Retro Handhelds CES summary video, they talked about it a bit but past that, I don't know nothing specific no. For all intents and purposes, it'll be the exact same controller with a native support for iPhone 15s. I wouldn't be surprised if that model has 2 modes rather than 3, so there should definitely be some variables from a software side of things but all that is assumptions on my part, I know nothing that would be "official" information about the variant itself.

And it lasts more than 6 months unlike the Backbone which breaks after a month or two
My very first Backbone did break within a few months of ownership, the warranty experience was extremely positive I must say. Ever since, the three other I owned have had zero issues, here's to hoping they tightened their QC.

Does it fit everyone's purpose of a mobile controller though? Not necessarily, Backbone is way more pocketable for example. But the fact still is GameSir did better than the competition for less money and they effectively went somewhere no other brands went, which is to bring a living room console quality controller to the telescopic format. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

As long as it is a slim case, I'd say your chances are very high. I Googled the case you mentioned and I would comfortably assume that it will work no problem.

I doubt it? The only reason being that I'm about certain that the USB-C handles charge, but not OTG. In other words, there is no data moving out of that USB-C, or at least historically, it usually doesn't. So I doubt what you'd want to do would work but let me know your findings, I'd be happy to have confirmation. Cheers!
I have no problem using wireless earbuds with the controller on because the wireless earbuds connect directly to the phone with Bluetooth

Both my 15 Pro Max and Galaxy Fold 4 work with a case but they are both slim cases. So I'd say your mileage may vary and I do have to give it a slight nudge but once I do, the connection is sound until I disconnect again. Cheers!

Having both, for me it’s a no-brainer. The Galileo G8, while not as compact, is WAY superior at everything else. It’s also not as bulky as you may think. The X2 Pro, is more compact yes, but not by THAT MUCH, but for everything else, it is just not able to compete with the G8.
If you’ve watched multiple reviews by now, you’ll know most if not all came to the same conclusion. There is before and after the G8, this controller will probably reshape the market entirely. I hope this helps.

I'd end up buying them all! When I'm not sure I'll buy everything I'm interested then I'll test them out and then when i find the one that works for me I'll stick with that one and sell or giveaway the rest to friends or family

As long as it is a slim case, there is no reason for that solution not to work with a S23. I wish I had a S23 to confirm that information for you but unfortunately, I do not.
No, even with a slim case it's not. I have a S22 Ultra which is similar size. The problem is not the length, but the height of the USB C connector. It's too short, it goes in but not deep enough so the phone does not detect any connection

So specs say 1mm thick or less should work. In the video, I'm using a silicone case bought from the Apple store directly. Thanks, I appreciate the support!
How did you get your iphone to play with the case on? I have the standard apple silicon case and it connects for a second but stops a few seconds later.
I don't recall doing anything particular. I just gave it a nudge so that the connection is robust but that's what I always do. Outside of that, nothing out of ordinary.
bought as an upgrade to my cheap bluetooth controller, ended up using the cheap bluetooth controller, the gamesir g8 is not comfortable for me, way to thick.

How does it work qith dolphin emulator, on button mapping, anybody?
You have to go in input settings after which you can map your inputs. It usually gets picked up without having to map anything but should you want to make things different, that's where you do it first. Subsequently, you can map your inputs specifically per core as well. You want to make sure to save after you do to not have to redo this everytime.

I just got the backbone android standard last week. And also ordered the G8. Do you think I should return the backbone?
Yes. G8 is all you need
The thing with the Galileo G8 is that, it's almost to the point that it shouldn't be compared with the Backbone One because it is in a different category altogether. The Backbone One is light, compact and decent quality wise, but it's a mobile controller. The Galileo G8 feels like you took a console controller (that are way more comfortable) and you split it in two, it's in a different league.

Does it feel bad that doesn’t have rubberised grips?
I think it feels great. I find rubberized and dotted grips have about the same effect, I can't say I favor one over the other. As long as the texture changes really and this one does that with a dotted grip so I'm happy with the result.

LG v30 owner here.
Would this work for remote play on a phone as old as a LG V30?
Because there is no little tabs sticking out like there is on the Backbone, there is virtually no phone that wouldn't fit in there. Granted, it needs to have a USB-C plug and be running at least Android 8 or more recent. Even an RoG Phone that has off-center plug work with this, awkwardly mind you, but it works nonetheless.

Doesn't work. The metal USB plug on the Galileo is to short to plug into my phone. And with an extender, its too long to fit. Brother :/
Unfortunately, I have not review that product but I would refer you to the newer iteration of the Backbone One. I am being told that they have a system that makes it the most compatible controller with a wide variety of phone cases. Hopefully, the comfort will be to your liking. I like the Backbone One but after using the Galileo G8, I'd be lying if I said it's easy to go back to anything else. It's not.
@@GameTechTalk I agree. I already bought the first iteration of Backbone and returned it. My biggest problem was the handles were too small and made my hands ache using it. But it didn't work with the case on either. Its so much work to take my phone in and out of its case its not made to be removed 3x a day its a PITA
@@e.gadd.1 Definitely, the case removal is the biggest hassle there is. That's why I eventually migrated to slim cases as compatibility seems to be fairly good.

I wish they would release a Bluetooth version, so I could use my iPhone 13 Max Pro.
They'll have to at some point, so many people are requesting such a product. I think they're just giving themselves some breathing room and maybe gathering a bit more data to see if they make some slight alterations.

It does not unfortunately. It's addressed near the end of the video but all things considered, I'm ok that it doesn't but I hope a future version will.
Can the abxy be reconfigured on the controller? Like taking it out and rearranging them like Nintendo buttons. Are they magnetically attached like X2 Pro?
Great question, they are not magnetic. They have little tabs like buttons usually do, you can actually see the tabs when removing the right side cover but also, the B (much like on a King Kong 2 Pro) is not exactly the same height as the other three buttons, so swapping them would make for an awkward feeling. I have no idea at this point in time if GameSir intends to release replacement buttons at this point in time but if ever they see this, I would hope they consider it as one of the bigger asks for this product seems to be different colors.

@AlexRiz18 Sure, happy to assist. Even with the cover removed, you still don't have access to removing/changing the buttons. It requires for you to disassemble the controller, much like RetroBreeze with his tablet mod. I hope this answers your question. Cheers!

I almost backed that one but decided it was too dialed-in into that "ULTIMATE GAMER RGB SICK CURVES FUTURISTIC LOOKING" aesthetic. It may be a bit harsh but it kind of gave me that "smokes and mirrors" kind of feel that ultimately made me wonder if it was really going to be that good, or more a 25US chinese controller praised to be 5-6 times the price. Have backers received their controllers yet?
I agree it was a bit too far out presentation with ELO. Didn’t need all that. However because I was desperate for one that I could use with my case I did do a preorder and cancelled it the moment I learned about this and haven’t regretted it. I was a bit bummed that the app for IOS wint have the upgrade but like the CEO said that is due to Apple’s wall garden and as an Apple guy I am familiar with it so they can only do so much. The hot keys are good enough. Also I am still able to use this with my case on the 15 pro max so it’s all good.

The ps backbone did it for me on the 15 pro max, first mobile controller and it’s perfect, only flaw for me was the thumb sticks being a little too small which I replaced with Nintendo switch ones, the gamesir seems great from what I’ve been hearing, but I just overall don’t prefer the bulker look/design over the backbones, it’s too unique in my eyes.
No one can argue with having options right? The Backbone is a fantastic mobile controller, the Galileo G8 is a fantastic console controller for mobile.
