I like how you analyze the other possibilities. I haven't played in years, but I go for the throat to start and then analyze the possibilities.I really enjoy these puzzles.
P.S. I studied his play and others about 45 years ago.

1)Rc8 ch --- RxR; 2)Qxa7 ch -- Kxa7; 3) Bxc8 knight ch followed by NxQ wins with two pawn

I considered the rook sacrifice, but couldn’t consider the queen sacrifice.

Once i saw the position after rook sac on the screen i saw queen sac and underpromotion right away. But in the original position i was stuck on preserving the queen.

Again, personality comes into play. One must be supremely confident to sacrifice both rook and queen. My lack of confidence as a player inhibited me from even considering such tactics. Very bold.

But after C8ch, what if black captures the pawn with the king? Depending on white’s response, black then has a mate in one.

      Exactly what I was wondering

If king takes pawn, rook takes rook

RxR can be followed by Bc7 forking Q&R but Black responds with Qd5+ and threatening check on b7 with Qb5 or drawing black king out so that rook can be used in the mating attack.

@@stefangheorghe3349 I saw that, but what I missed was the white queen defending E1, where I thought black could move the queen to and mate after RxR. RxR is still winning for white, but much longer. I'm surprised he didn't cover that line though.

What if after rook C8 the king captures the pawn on B7 instead?

    • @jesinor1
      @jesinor1 19 дней назад +4

and white must be carefull then.... He has to move Rxd8 protecting e1 sqare with the queen so there is no mate with Qe1.

Ok rook c8, rook takes rook, queen takes a7, king takes queen, pawn takes rook with promotion to knight check, king moves, knight takes queen. Winning endgame for white.

Thought at first that Qf5 was an alternate, but then saw Bc7 for black. Too bad, as it was such a pretty zugzwang.

What if after Rc8+, black takes Kxb7 instead?

Taking the rook is not a forced move, the black king can take the pawn.

Действительно, черный король может взять пешку, тогда у белых будет преимущество - ферзь, ладья и две пешки против ферзя и слона черных.

    You missed
    1. Rc8+ Kxb7
    2. Rxd8 …
White still has many moves to win this.

I failed. I even saw the first two sacrifice moves but didn't see the Underpromotion.
