I choose a strip cut for large volumes of shredding, but a cross cut for higher security shredding. It's better to get a micro cut shredder or a high security but at lest buy a shredder even if it is only strip cut because it's better then nothing. My dad has a bulldog micro cut shredder for over 10 years and he uses it almost every day. I always use it for extra security. I recently bought a strip cut just in case I have a lot of shredding to do, but I also have a CD cross cut shredder if I want that added peace of mind!
