- In this video, I'll be showing you how to choose the perfect shredder for your home or office. Not only is a shredder an important tool for your office, but by law, you may be required to have one to destroy sensitive customer information. In addition to this, there are several other factors why you may consider purchasing a shredder:
Issue #1: Decluttering Your Office & Document Security
o Whether working from home, back in the office or a hybrid of the two, office clutter is the last thing you want taking over your space. However, it’s important to not just throw out all your papers when a job is complete - many documents contain sensitive information you do not want in the wrong hands.
Why Shred - In the Office
• Eliminate Clutter and Unneeded Documents
• Bank Statements and Financial Records
• Contracts and Other Legal Records
• Employee Information, Records and Pay Stubs
• Invoices, Voided Checks and Sales Receipts
• Private Company Data and Proprietary Information
• Tax Records
• Reduce Risk of Reputation Damage caused by Identity Theft & Data Breaches
• Self
• Employees
• Patients & Clients
• Compliance with Laws & Legislation
Why Shred - At Home
• Eliminate Clutter and Unneeded Documents
• ATM and Store Receipts
• Bank and Credit Card Statements
• Bills
• Cancelled and Voided Checks
• Expired Drivers Licenses
• Junk Mail
• Tax Records
• Any Documentation Containing Private Personal Information
• Prevent Identity Theft
• Remote Working Compliance with Laws & Legislation (You are still bound by the same laws for document destruction when working from home as you are in the office!)
Some interesting stats:
• Statistics as of October 31, 2021 (Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre) (Source)
• Canadian reports of fraud: 62,333 (71,100 in 2020)
• Canadian victims of fraud: 43,230 (42,188 in 2020)
• Lost to fraud: $198 M ($106.6M in 2020)
• 34 percent of Canadians have fallen victim to fraud according to a 2020 Fraud Survey (CPA Mar 3, 2020) (Source)
Relevant Legislation: These laws and industry standards generally require businesses to properly dispose of customer’s personal information. Noncompliance can result in significant monetary fines, as well as time in prison.
Legislation
PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronics Documents Act) - the collection, storage and use of personal information by organizations in the private sector. The law requires organizations to "destroy, erase or make anonymous personal information about individuals that it no longer needs in order to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected”. www.priv.gc.ca/en/privacy-top...
Privacy Act - protects the personal information collected by government institutions.
Provincial Laws - Various Laws Protect Consumer & Patient Privacy (PHIPA, PIPA, PIPITPA (the Act), PPI)
GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) - Protects Personal Data of EU Citizens
and Residents
Industry Standard
PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards) - introduced to protect cardholder data and to ensure the same data security measures and used globally. Also, each major credit card company has its own compliance standards.

Thanks for watching the video How to Choose the Perfect Shredder: 3 Easy Steps & Fellowes LX200 Review | EdTchoi
I also have a CD cross cut shredder, I love putting old CDs and DVDs through it. The crunching sound is so entertaining!!!!
Very satisfying!
@@EdTchoi Yes, isn't it just. Sometimes I go to charity shops just to buy old CD's to shred. I also gave my dad my micro cut shredder for his sensitive documents, he's used it lots over the years!!!!
@@EdTchoi I have a strip cut shredder in case I have a lot to shred quickly. When I moved into my new home 5 years ago I shredded all my confidential data through it and gave the shredding's to someone who had a hamster. Strip shredders are very quick, but if I want higher security, I use my cross cut shredder. I've never had my identity or bank details stolen as of yet!!!
I bought my dad a micro cut shredder that has a slot for CDs and credit cards.
glad to see that youre back, Ed!
I'm back!!!! Sorry about the lack of videos, it's been pretty busy with work. I do have a couple of more videos lined up. Stay tuned!
Great video! Thank you.
does it has a slot for credit card shredding?
No slot for credit card shredding, but you can put the card directly into the shredder. I tried doing this and it works great!
