Imagine staying on the beach and waking up to the sound of the waves every morning. Today, I'm going to give you a visual representation of that dream by taking you inside a nearly $159 million dollar beachfront mansion!
The nearly $159 million dollar mansion is located in Hillsboro Beach, Florida in the affluent community of Hillsboro Mile, where neighboring homes can cost well over $10 million. The house is located on approximately 2.5 acres, with a 2.5 acre vacant lot next door, for a total of 5 acres. The home was auctioned off with no reservation in November of 2018 and eventually sold for $42.5 million dollars to one of Teavana's co-founders. It only goes to show that your home is just worth what anyone is willing to pay for it, regardless of the selling price. A $116 million dollar discount is a pretty good deal for a home of this size, in my opinion. Regardless, owning and running such a property will not be easy. Land taxes would be approximately $660,000 per year, and homeowners insurance will be approximately $170,000 per year for the new owner. And we can only guess that between landscapers and property upkeep, they'll be looking at an extra $250k in simple homeownership costs each year. But, if you can afford to buy a $42.5 million dollar home, I'm sure you can afford to spend a million dollars per year to maintain it.
The house has 11 bedrooms, 22 bathrooms, and 30,000 square feet of living space, which works out to around $1,417 per square foot. You ride up the elevated circular limestone carport as you make your way up the gated path. When you enter the Versailles-inspired mansion, you are greeted by the main foyer, which is flanked by two grand staircases and symmetrical powder rooms. A waiting room with pocket sliding glass doors that open up to the nearly 500 feet of ocean frontage is straight ahead. The kitchen is located on the left side of the house and features custom mahogany cabinets with 22-karat gold fixtures. A family room with a built-in aquarium is located just off the kitchen. The formal dining room is located off the kitchen and features two glass chandeliers hanging from the ceiling as well as a stunning mosaic painted on the ceiling. A gaming space, a home office, and a pub-style card room are all on the main floor.
The large imax home theater with seating for up to 18 people is located downstairs. The home's 3,000 square foot wine cellar is right next door, ready to house all of your prized spirits from around the world. The bottom floor also houses an underground temperature-controlled 20-car garage where you can keep your luxury sports cars safe from the harsh salty ocean air. On this floor, you'll also find four guest bedrooms and the staff quarters. Moving up two flights of stairs to the home's top floor, you'll find three guest suites and the master bedroom. What's unusual about this house is that half of the top floor is entirely devoted to the master suite.
Within the master bedroom, custom moldings with 22-karat gold leaf encircle the space. When you hop in bed, you feel like a king because the bed is hidden behind a gate. Next door is a master sitting room with views of the ocean. A wide terrace wraps around the back of the building, providing views of the crashing waves. Since dual vanities weren't enough, there are his and his toilets. The same lavish gold leafing is intertwined into the architecture of both bathrooms. The soaking tub in the corner room with 180-degree views of the ocean is my favorite part of the bathrooms. The south terrace is off the master's right wing and features a private plunge pool, a ski bridge over the cabana, and an elevated hot tub with views of the ocean.
Finally, outside, there is a lavish resort-style pool surrounded by architecture influenced by France's Palace of Versailles. This property is designed to be the ultimate entertainer's home rather than a home. Consider the pool parties at this house. With an empty lot next door for potential construction, this home can only get better. But that concludes our tour of this $159 million dollar beachfront mansion!
