In this episode we take a look at some facts, secrets, and history of Chrono Trigger. Chrono Trigger is an RPG developed and published by Square for the Super Nintendo. Chrono Trigger's team included three designers that Square dubbed the "Dream Team" (Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii, and Dragon Ball artist Akira Toriyama). Chrono Trigger was critically acclaimed across the board, and the Chrono series as a whole has sold over 5 million units.

It's interesting how little there is of Chrono Trigger aside from the original game. You'd think it'd have launched a massive franchise, but nope. Kinda makes it even more special.
Chrono Cross is prove that is easy to fuck up the story when you're planning to expand the CT lore.
They should've done a Final Fantasy move and create more games with different stories.
How come it didn’t become a big franchise like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest?
@@starmancrusader Chrono Cross is partly to blame. The game was solid for what it was but it was a poor sequel to a game as well regarded as Chrono Trigger was. Not only that but the events that happen kind of makes some of the old characters look like cowards who let their kingdom be destroyed and straight up kills another og cast member without even telling you it did so in some people's opinions it trashes the legacy a little. Also Japanese companies have a weird way of thinking when it comes to older series. For example, the ds version of Trigger didn't meet expectations and neither did the mobile or pc releases of the game so they probably think there is little to no interest in a sequel or remake of the series. A good example of this kind of marketing can also be seen with Capcom and Darkstalkers Resurrection. Since it didn't sell well they decided to scrap any plans on a Darkstalkers 4. What they don't understand is that gamers mostly want fresh and new experiences and not just the same game rehashed 20 different times but oh well. Hopefully we get something someday
@@RandalfElVikingo well said. CC could have been a fine as a stand alone game. I’d give just about anything for a true CT sequel
@@RandalfElVikingothat's exactly what they did though. Cross was a new cast of main characters, different dimension, different setting, different story. The reason trigger fanboys were mad was because it wasn't a direct sequel and was too different.
I wish I could forget everything about Chrono Trigger, so I could play it for the first time again :(
Same. I played this game for the first time in 2015 and when i finished i was in tears, it instantly became one of my favorite games of all time
Is it really that good??
@@bugbar I've been playing it for almost a week now of not more. Amazing my dude. You're spot on.
If I could "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" myself, playing Chrono Trigger would be on a list I would leave for myself to find afterwards.
😂😂 Shame I know nothing of this masterpiece yet Im about to play it
So many people saying the characters look like DBZ characters. Do none of you know who Akira Toriyama is?
+Ryotaiku Because they do like the DBZ characters. Yes, and of course it is Akira Toriyama who created both series.
+Ryotaiku ^ and the video failed to mention him doing the art.
You're missing the point. Yes people know who he is. The point is Toriyama is a super lazy artist and just reuses designs over and over again.
Ryotaiku 😂😂😂
+Renee Toomey
0:34 it was one of the first things they mentioned >:\
I love Akira Toriama's style of drawing
MegaBlastoise10 well, who doesn't?
@@malik87breaker Unfortunately lots of people. You have no idea how many people i have heard say ignorant crap like every character uses all the same designs or that they look too cartoony even for manga/anime style designs etc etc. It makes me sad because his designs are so unique to himself and timeless IMO
Same dude
I absolutely agree.
It's a shame he lost his touch. I don't blame him, he's getting old. But yeah, he draws way differently now.
This is one of the best DYKG episodes, simply because you get to hear Chrono Trigger music the whole time
SolidSnake684 No shit
Chrono trigger is by far the greatest RPG I've ever fucking played. It just works in every single way!!!!! Only one I'd say comes close is The World Ends With You.
Or Persona 3 & 4, my opinion though.
+FullmetalSonic260 fallout 4 or witcher3
+Jaedon Richardson Are you asking which I prefer? Well, I haven't played neither, but they look great.
+FullmetalSonic260 nope saying those are better.
+Jaedon Richardson Oh ok.
It is just mind blowing that this game was developed over 20 years ago. Such incredible talent came together perfectly on this project!
Im so glad to have played it back then, too. CT is #1 on many peoples lists for a ton of reasons!!
Truly a game many years ahead of its time... Maybe even... Literally many years ahead... (Time travel joke!)
One of my favorite games ever
The legendary 3 men, Dream Team
just finished my first playthrough in 2020 and daaamn this game is waaaaay ahead of its time definitely in my top 10 jrpgs!
Shame this isn’t on the SNES Classic, it would’ve been the perfect finishing touch for it.

Yeah... It's on mine =)
Among the easier modifications to make to software.
Crack your SNES Classic and add it like everyone else did. In fact I think there's a way to add the MSU-1 modded version.
All this talk of "potential" sequels breaks my heart. Also Bravely Default
+watainiac Ditto. Love Trigger and Cross.
+watainiac Hey, I was actually on the QA & English localization team for the English version of the game, spending months poring over every single line in the game, whether it be battle, dialogue, backstory, or anything else in between.
In doing so, I found out a wide number of practically unknown secrets and interesting trivia about the game, enough to fill up multiple videos without breaking my NDA on the game.
I'd love to provide DYKG with the trivia, so if you want, let them know you'd want me to supply them a bunch of obscure trivia about the game!
+azuritereaction Ah, are you active in Chrono Compendium? They might take some of that info useful for their Wiki and research.
a Chrono Trigger site does research on Bravely Default?
+azuritereaction Wait, AzuriteReaction talking about Bravely Default in an official DYKG video? Yes, please!
FF7 remake?....nah, i prefer a "Chrono Trigger Remake"...
this comment made my eyes get teary eyed. i would love that
How dare you... Remake of a perfect game..
@@gyromurphy Exactly you should never remake what's already perfect, granted that hasn't stopped multiple versions of Chrono Trigger to come out. To this dy I still treasure my Chrono Trigger SNES cartridge that I have had since I was 6.
@@gyromurphy Agreed! I love the 16-bit aesthetics of Chrono Trigger. FFVII has aged much worse, so I think a remake is fitting for that game. Although in the trailer, they gave Cloud twig arms which might actually bother me more than it should. How are you supposed to swing a big ass sword with arms like that?

Square needs to pull their heads out of their asses and make a new Chrono game.
Because the last time they made a sequel, everybody unfairly compared it to the original.
Josh Sinclair Actually, a lot of people praise Chrono Cross and how awesome it is. So, it wouldn't be bad, but if you want a sequel there was a game called Crimson Echoes but it got shutdown right when it was at 97% complete. all of it is on RUclips though.

yeah a sequel where everyone in previous game dies and the fucking kingdom destroyed is definitely a good sequel. go fuck yourself
It's too bad that square forgot about its most beloved and powerhouse titles. Chrono Trigger, Secret of Evermore, etc. It's too bad the remake of Secret of Mana was a flop.
Toriyama naming characters after condiments is similar to how many of the characters in Dragonball are named after vegetables.
The character concept designs also remind me a lot Dragonball character designs.
JammyGuyStudios Really ?? Sir you really have a great eye !!
Toriyama used WAY more than just vegetables in the DBZ characters' names. In fact, each subgroup of minor and major characters has their own category of name puns. Almost EVERY name in DBZ carries a pun or direct reference.
SAIYAJIN: Vegetables
Kakarrot - Carrot
Raditz - Radish
Nappa -
Vegeta - play on the word vegetable
Tarble - The second half of the word "vegetable"
Bardock - Burdock roots
Broly - Broccoli
Turles - rearrange katakana (japanese phonetics) for "lettuce" (Re-ta-su)
NAMEKIANS: snails
Katas - based on the first half of the Japanese word for snail
Nail - sNAIL
Muri/Murray - the second half of the Japanese word for snail
Dende - half of a kid's Japanese slang word for snail
Cargo - play on "escargot".
GINYU FORCE: Dairy
Ginyu - "Gyunyu" is Japanese for milk.
Burter - Butter
Guldo - comes from the katakana Japanese word for Yogurt (yo gu ru do)
Jeice/Jeese - Cheese
Recoome - messy anagram for "cream"
FRIEZA FAMILY: Cold containers
Freiza - Freezer
Cooler - beverage container
MAJIN WIZARDS AND BUU: Reference to the Disney Cinderella song "Bibbidi-bobbidi-boo" and other "magic" words
Bibidi
Babidi
Buu
Dabura - abra caDABRA
Puipui - Japanese nonsense incantation word "Chichin puipui"--basically "hocus pocus".
BRIEFS FAMILY: undergarments
Bulma - slang for "bloomers", a kind of old-fashioned women's underwear
Trunks - boxer shorts
Briefs - self explanatory
Bra - self explanatory
SHAPESHIFTERS: Tea
Oolong -
Puar - Puerrh, a kind of tea
Hercule - his Japanese name is Mr. Satan and his daughter, Videl, is an anagram of "devil".
SCHOOLKIDS (GREAT SAIYAMAN SAGA): School supplies
Erasa - eraser
Sharpner - sharpener
And this is stil barely half of the name puns!
Yeah. Shit got too serious during Android's saga to have any puns, well, except for Trunks
Everybody forgets Launch, even the creator.
Chrono trigger is so good, one of the best games of all time

Did you know gaming Suikoden.
Do iiiiiiiiiiiiit.
I agree, I actually played thru the first one last year after my husband said "if you enjoyed Chrono Trigger you'd probably also enjoy Suikoden," he was correct. Once I get some vacation time I'm going to bulldoze thru the second one!
+Heather Viguerias The second one is by far my favourite! Enjoy!
Heather Viguerias
oh your in for a treat then, you thought Suikoden 1 was good?
Suikoden 2 is better in every way.
So I've heard! Lol! That's why I want to wait and play it when I have a lot of time to dedicate to it. I'm so excited to play it but I have to wait for my seasonal job to end cause I'm balancing 2 jobs right now, I don't have much time for myself. I'll probably wait til after the holidays, I prefer playing 8-16 hour sessions for great RPG's with cheese puffs and Diet Coke in arm's reach.
Heather Viguerias
i like the way you think.
that hype when i realized ayla is android 18 this whole time
I knew it!
i think thats why Akira made her hair curly xD... and she ended up similar to Lunch
I was thinking something simiiar, I thought to myself "all this concept art looks like something from DBZ"
Ya Boi Yoshi how could that have happen?! Its not like it was the same mangaka....
tales of please
This blew me away when it came out. The presentation was gorgeously refined. From the first moment that Chrono's mom opened his bedroom curtains to let the light in, I knew it was something special. It's amazing that it still holds up today, unlike dated stuff like FF7. Seriously timeless.
The cease and desist for Resurrection is so sad. I never played Chrono Trigger because it was a bit before my time, but from what I've heard, and what was shown from Resurrection, I would have picked it up in a heartbeat. I suppose Square Enix had nothing to gain from it, but they had nothing to lose either. They should reward the creativity of their fans, like Valve did with the Black Mesa people
+Connor Jennings They obviously had something to lose. 1) A remake hurts their ability to make a remake later. 2) It puts them in completion with some 3rd party who is using their own work against them. 3)People giving away free games hurts the game market as a whole. Whatever YOU do for a living, how do you respond when someone else gives it away for free? 4) As personal artwork, they are having someone else portray their vision and dream in a way they are not involved or in control of. (There's nothing stopping them from making some side quest where Frog becomes a mass murderer or Crono and Robo have weird sexual relations) 5) They lose the right to have a copyright on their work when they don't defend the copyright of their work.
+JazGalaxy
*1) A remake hurts their ability to make a remake later.*
The fact that there is a game out there it doesnt change theyr ability at all, in fact it gives them free advertisement by making people aware of the game existence.
*2) It puts them in completion with some 3rd party who is using their own work against them.*
Again, theyr ability to make game DOESNT CHANGE at all if someone else does a HD version of one of theyr games, and this people is not presenting any kind of competition as they are clearly not in the market (the games was for free)
*3)People giving away free games hurts the game market as a whole. Whatever YOU do for a living, how do you respond when someone else gives it away for free?*
Are you joking? Look at League of Legends, Dota, Team Fortress, they do nothing but make the videogame market a way better economy by making the game accesible by default and only charging people if they want speciall features, i dont say that this should be the norm for every game, but it doesnt hurt theyr oposition at all.
*4) As personal artwork, they are having someone else portray their vision and dream in a way they are not involved or in control of. (There's nothing stopping them from making some side quest where Frog becomes a mass murderer or Crono and Robo have weird sexual relations)*
The Chrono Resurrection was just an HD Remake, they even said it will be little to no changes, and even if they did change some things, that will NOT hurt the charachters or franchise at all, there is like a billion fanmade Mario games and yet it doesnt hurt Mario at all as a charachter because people have a brain that can diferentiate between original and fanmade.
*5) They lose the right to have a copyright on their work when they don't defend the copyright of their work.*
They dont lose any right of anything, if the game goes of and they dont notice they can reclaim whenever they want.
Please inform yourself about marketing/laws and the Chrono Resurection game, before posting untrue claims about it.
Like +Connor Jennings said, look at companies like Valve, who instead of going against theyr own fans, they congratulate them, the only think that inspires Square Enix to people like me its to NOT buy theyr Chrono Remake, as i dont think they deserve the love that the fans give them, when they act like childs.
+Connor Jennings I thought Resurrection was not an actual remake, and just a test for the engine the developers were making. They were using the Chrono IP to advertise and build hype around their engine, which is why Square came down on it.
+Z7Games You do realize that everything you stated is wrong right? Everything Jaz said is true, with the exception of his last point maybe, if they came out with an HD remake of CT after Resurrection everyone would be like, "Why would I pay money for that when this one is for free?" And don't even try to pretend that's not how people think, because it is, thus taking away possible money they could've earned themselves. The reason why Mario isn't affected is because there are so many Mario games out there, that everyone has a good idea of who Mario is, we've only seen one game that actually has all of the Chrono Trigger characters in it. Also giving away free games does hurt the market.....in a sense. Sure there are games like LoL that charge people if they want certain things, but this game could in no way charge anyone for anything, it would've been a completely free game, and it also goes back to my first point of in the end it would hurt SE's sales if they ever decided to do the same thing. Square has become super protective of this franchise, and I think that's because it's their sacred baby, and they won't allow anyone to touch it unless they are the ones making it. A lot of people hold this game in very high regards, and if anything was put out associated with Chrono Trigger that was terrible, it might not sway anyone who has played the original, but for people wanting to see what this game is all about, it might put a nasty taste in their mouth thus making the whole franchise unappealing to them stopping any possibility of them going back and trying the original. I am super sad that this remake never came to fruition, but I can also see why Square did what they did, however I do believe they should've hired those guys on to do an official release sometime later....which will probably never happen either, but one can hope.
+Connor Jennings No one on the team blames Square Enix for what they did. We were all humble, in fact a bit proud that we gained enough traction to have them shut us down! It was a bit unbelievable. Still, was a very fun project to work on. It was still great seeing how much traffic came from the square enix japanese domain on our website, though when the trailer launched.
Best OST ever made!
Yasunori Mitsuda is a genius!
Not really, Zelda is better.
Nimbereth now I don't doubt or disrespect your opinion but as I haven't played chrono trigger I think that shovel knight has the best soundtrack of all games I have played
we all know that, who cares...the subject here is CHRONO TRIGGER stupid!
Agreed, truly one of the greatest composers of our time right alongside nobuo uematsu and john williams i'd say!
tcrpgfan I think that is the beauty of having an opinion. I personally feel that Mitsuda’s body of work is much more memorable and has stuck with me a lot longer than any of the Zelda games.
His work on Xenogears, Chrono Trigger/Cross simply put are some of my favorite game soundtracks ever. You can’t deny that he is extremely talented.
Never understood why they didn't continue this series, anybody knows?
+JacobOlli I think it's because Chrono Cross wasn't incredibly well received. A lot of people have complained that there was no real connection to Chrono Trigger aside from a few small references. Not to say CC was a bad game, but I think that was the issue at the time.
writergirl923 Ah i see, thanks for telling me :)
+writergirl923 that's no reason, chrono cross was said to be a spiritual successor not a sequel. IT's kinda like saying Xenoblade chronicles X sucks cause it has nothing to do with xenoblade. Yeah it doesn't the dev already stated that.
+JacobOlli
The series was supposed to continue. *A new installment named, "Chrono Break" was already in conceptual stage and Square already filed trademarks in preparation for the new title.* Apparently the entire project was dropped and all swept under the rug after Sakaguchi left Square.
+GDKsan funny thing about xeno series is:
~xenoblade chronicles x is spiritual successor to xenoblade chronicles
~xenoblade chronicles is spriritual successor to xenosaga series
~xenosaga series is spiritual successor to xenogears
too much spiritual successor nowdays, too many game developer switch from one company to another.
>But problems with sqaure enix management
"That game is really old, and it isn't Dragon quest or final fantasy. No."
"But NIER did great!"
"You want Yoko to work with you then!"
"Sure!"
"No."
Too many finaly fantasys, not enough Chronos....I'd like to see the DBZ artwork back as well.
MavHunter20XX well for a final fantasy they really over extended the final part
Toriyama for character design and Mitsuda for the soundtrack are absolute musts. As much as I'd love a proper sequel, I fear Square wouldn't do it justice.
MavHunter20XX play Dragon Quest
Spit Dragon naw. I died when they let Nomura do more than just his shitty artwork
Definitely the Tales of Series. Pretty much anything before Symphonia is kinda niche, so chances are there's some interesting history to be found.
+WhatTheFnu They need to re-release those games on PSN, I love to try some of these classic tales games and would love to be able to download them.
+WhatTheFnu Tales of Phantasia is still by far my favorite in the series.
+WhatTheFnu Tales has definitely become more popular, but I would still call it niche for sure.
The Tales of is dead. I played them all and they didn't have much of an impact on me. Bravely Default however was awesome and I love almost everything about it.
+WhatTheFnu Not sure I'd say the older ones are niche. Personally I don't have any Sony consoles so I've actually only played parts of Phantasia and Symphonia. Similar situation with Final Fantasy. I've only played the very old ones.
Lord Toriyama's art style is legendary. This game is amazing, I feel bad I didn't discover it until it released of phones years back. I always knew about it. Just never played it.
This is the first game Made by Square and Enix before they merged
I'm so happy these are finally public again.

I'm not opposed to either, though the Tales of series would be great. Like Tales of Phantasias' origins. :D
+Jaymonius I'm kind of curious about the whole debacle around Zestiria.
+MarbleThunder What debacle, just wondering I am playing throuhg Zestiria while far from being has good Xillia or Vesperia it's not a terrible game.
yes and tales of symphonia to.
+Tommy “tommy thekeyblademaster” thekeyblademaster Abyss and Vesperia being my personal favorites I don't Hate Zestiria the dungeons could have a few more back drops but I don't play the tales series for Appearances.
+PortalMaster24 +Tommy “tommy thekeyblademaster” thekeyblademaster Seeing as neither of you even mention Symphonia, I guess you haven't played it. Xilia, Vesperia and Zestiria don't come close Symphonia and Abyss. Although I liek the new combo system in Zestiria
This game was Square during it's glory days. It's a real shame what they've become now though. The western studios they acquired make much better games than what's left at Square Enix. Those western studios are the only thing keeping Square relevant these days.
Tell that to FFXII and FFXIV, the KH series, Bravely series, and the new Dragon Quest entries. :/
Two words: Bravely Default.
+Benjamim Carvalho Hey, I was actually on the QA & English localization team for the English version of the game, spending months poring over every single line in the game, whether it be battle, dialogue, backstory, or anything else in between.

I randomly picked up this game in 1995 because I saw SquareSoft made it and I liked the cover. It quickly became my favorite game of all time.
Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu leaving Square-Enix is the greatest tragedy to have ever faced the JRPG genre. It makes me unbelievably sad to think about what games we, the players and thus the world have missed out on because of those unfortunate events.
Not to mention the false hope and promise of Mistwalker which was supposed to incarnate their spirit but only sparked a line of mostly forgettable Japan only mobile games.
I've been sad for their departures but also mostly thankful that their genius spirits saturated us with so many classic titles. We were kinda spoiled to begin with I guess.
Same as with Studio Alex and the Lunar series.
R.I.P. Toriyama
I want a new Chrono just so we can have another full Mitsuda soundtrack.
6 year old comment but Yasunori Mitsuda is composing the music for a Chrono Trigger spiritual successor called Sea of Stars set to release in 2023!
I always loved how distinctly "Toriyama" all the characters are.
6:50
In between Tokita and Sakaguchi's statements, there is a statement at E3 2009 by then-Senior Vice President Shinji Hashimoto, who cited low sales of then-recent Chrono releases such as the DS version released over half a year prior, as the reason why new releases, such as another sequel, were out of the question.
During an interview about Front Mission Evolved, Hashimoto was asked by RPGsite Dot Net if he could foresee Square handing off other much-loved but neglected franchises to external developers as with Front Mission.
When he asked what franchise they had in mind, "Chrono Trigger" was the response.
Hashimoto laughed and asked: "Why does everyone ask about Chrono Trigger?"
When told the series was popular with fans, he responded:
"That's not what the sales tell me! If people want a sequel, they should buy more!"
(You can find this for yourself on RPG Site. I'd link it myself, but RUclips's automated spam detectors would delete this.)
Still to this day an absolutely flawless 10/10 masterpiece!
They don't make RPG's or any game for that matter with this type of love and soul put into this game, this is why this game was so great, and still is.
There NEEDS to be a direct Chrono Trigger sequel.

I honestly never had the chance to properly play through Chrono Trigger (I have vague memories of the game, but I doubt I played it fully). However, I played Chrono Cross to hell and back. It was one of my most memorable games for its time, and I definitely would love to see a full video on the tidbits about it. I had so much fun in it.
Never played it.
my favorite game of all time :)
+MegaScience - Chrono Cross is huge, lots of dialog, tons of characters, different paths and by it replay value. It would be an interesting subject for a video. I as well played Chrono Trigger, it was among the first games that really brought me into actual gaming since everything before that was not enough interesting for me. I played it through once and that is it, I don't remember much about it but Chrono Cross was something I played through and talked about with friends numerous times. For me personally it's the best game ever.
+Sonicserge It's bigger, but the fact that they only made it tangentially related to the first one is bothersome to a lot of us Trigger fans.
I can appreciate it in its own right, but I really wanted to know how the original crew was doing. And I know the end of the game reverses it, but killing off Lucca off screen is just dumb.
did you know tales of series
Look at companies like Valve, who instead of going against theyr own fans, they congratulate them (Black mesa for example), the only think that inspires Square Enix with that attitude its to not buy theyr games, as i dont think they treat fans correctly.
+Z7Games FF7.
+SirNixolot Exactly why Square Enix, Konami, EA, Ubisoft, etc suck balls now days. Glad we still have companies like CD projekt red.
+Z7Games And Valve treats you with the utmost respect.....in your dreams maybe.
+SirNixolot That is what has me so confused. Since the decline of FPS/MMORPG trend, the gaming industry is now basically in the age of nostalgia and revisiting (and rebooting) past franchises. Nintendo has caught on and even made comprimises (i.e. not shutting down the LP community) and are experiencing a rapid climb out of what was, seemingly, inevitable obscurity. One would figure that square would stop picking the corpses of dying trends.
Bring Chrono Trigger to the Switch!
I really wish they'd make another Chrono game. While I felt like Chrono Cross had incredibly beautiful graphics (and I just played it a year or two ago), I felt like its real downfall was its ridiculously huge cast of characters. Like I only really felt a connection to Serge and Kid. Someday I'll probably go back and finish it off, but for now, I think I'm fine with letting it sit unfinished on my shelf.
Okay, wait. Is it "Mar-ley" or "Marl" for Marle? I always said "Marl"...
+GalaxyUpper--G
I always said "Marl" too. Just sounds better.
+GalaxyUpper--G I always pronounced it Marl as a kid, but then I made a friend named Marle and she pronounces it Mar-Lee. So now I say it Mar-Lee too. I think it's one of those preference things, like you can say either or.
I always said Marl & Majus, like Mage-Us *shrugs*
english pronounciations dude there is no correct one... i thought it is marl-ay before...
jimu _ Magus' pronunciation is probably even more grey: it could be Mage-Us, Mag-Gus, May-Gus, May-Jus... These old-school games and their ambiguous names... XD
Could you maybe do an episode on Lab Zero's new game Indivisible? It's a 2D hand-drawn RPG they're kickstarting right now. Ooo, or you could do an episode on Skullgirls! I'd love to see the whole history of how it was made.
+OtaGamerKorin Very much in support of this!
+OtaGamerKorin I'm pretty sure there is so much to say about Indivisible and Skull Girls because there is so many characters and culture and lore. It would also help the Indivisible campaign a lot!
+OtaGamerKorin That'd be cool!
+OtaGamerKorin There is so many characters and culture behind this there would so much to talk about. Oh that Skullgirls idea is also good. Just recently played that and even the colors are different people from other media. There would be so much to talk about!
+OtaGamerKorin I'm pretty sure there is a lot about the development of Skullgirls that people can talk about. Hell even the Indivisible campaign has already had some interesting things to talk about.
ITS BACK UP AGAIN!!!!
I have Chrono Trigger for the Ds, I also downloaded Chrono Cross for the PS Vita.
How do you follow up E3 2015? Well for starters...Chrono Trigger 2, Beyond Good & Evil 2, Half Life 3....the list goes on and on.
[looks at comments]
Uh...I'm gonna do as the video says and vote for what we want to see next and be on my way...
[votes Tales of Series]
Yasunori Mitsuda's ordeal paid off in the end, Chrono's ost is one of the best things ever.
Ah, so Chrono is gonna be in Sm4sh next, huh?
+Apophis324 I wish! lol! him and his party as part of his move set.
+Apophis324 there are a few possibilities. Chrono, Bayonetta, Shovel Knight, Shantae, and Wonder Red are all in the running, as I understand it. Two protag's from Platinum games in there.
+Elijah Jacobs Is Sm4sh really ready for voluptious women like Shantae and Bayonetta? I mean... Not only are they well curved, they're also... stylishly underdressed, so to speak. I'd love to have Shantae as part of the team, but I think Nintendo is gonna get a lot of complaints from women who don't know their cultures, who only see a cute, yet sexy, hip swaying ehm... well... "pleasure lady"... As for Shovel Knight, I know he's gonna be in there, I just don't think Nintendo should... It's not a Nintendo Exclusive game and doesn't Nintendo have more than enough third party characters running already?
Wonder Red.. Now that is indeed a wiser idea.
+kungfuhustler Oooh, fun!!
+Apophis324 Well, the shovel knight amiibo has the ability to function with smash, it just doesn't do anything yet. Which would obviously imply that it will be for his future character. However, I think they'll release a different one for smash regardless. As far as the ladies go, Pelutena has pole-dancing taunt and have you seen zero suit samus? There's already been controversy over sextualization in that game, and Nintendo clearly doesn't care what those people think.
I feel when Toriyama designs characters he does that Osamu Tezuka star system method of designing characters en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osamu_Tezuka%27s_Star_System & i know hes has gone on record as citing Tezuka as one of his inspirations also disney cartoons i believe?
0:35 Toriyama really loves that art style.
7:10 TALES SERIES!
+Kratos Aurion Plays
I agree on the vote
Zelos Wilder You earnestly believe you could defeat us?

Tales series has yet to disappoint!!
+games slayer try tales of the radiant world.
4:30 That laugh always reminded me a LOT of King Bob-Omb from Mario 64 for some reason
Lakitu1134 now that you mention it, and now that I think about it, I can kind of hear it too. LOL. What have you done?
I listen to the soundtrack on my way to work :) It still puts me in a good mood no matter what kind of day I've had
I'm currently playing Chrono Trigger in the psvita. The game is so awesome I have had it in all the "console" available.
Also, I always knew Slash, Flea and Ozzie were named for the musicians. But how did I not know Slash’s real name was Saul. Just when I didn’t think I could love him more....
Do the Tales Of Series!
OMFG you did not just say "marley" its MARLE like Carl .... Video ruined :P

+Julian Bustillos wow I didn't know you were a content creator for this channel. Dipshit McGee.
And I didn't know you were a 12 year old
+Julian Bustillos 12 year olds get such a bad rap. I know a lot of smart, mature 12 year olds. But their age is forever linked to immaturity, blatant idiocy and John Cena. Agecism!!!
not into these kind of games and never played this but when i saw the pictures at the beginning i was like that's gotta be Akira Toriyama and then he said it.
was looking at the thumbnail wondering why Crono looked like Goku, and 40 seconds in I see Toriyama's name and I'm no longer wondering why lmfao
That’s because Crono is the spiritual alternate reality version of Goku! The whole game feels like dragon ball! 😍🥰😘 Love it!
That resurrection thing, if that happened today, i could see the rage. Really, if they protested back then, imagine if they did that now. Square should have let them do it as long as they were releasing it for free. And i get the thing about them doing it to protect their IP, but they were and still are basically sitting on chrono trigger. That's like if valve had shut down black mesa. Unless, they're confirming half-life 3 the next day, it is just a bad PR move.
And before anyone says it would hurt sales on a future remake, i doubt it would hurt it much. Even if the project had been finished, i doubt people would play for long, save the diehard fans. Even then, those fans would buy a future remake most likely and other people who play it would likely just play it because they thought it was cool. Half those people would likely never even buy an official remake without resurrection. In fact, here is a good example of this HELPING sales. I used to hate dragonball z with a passion, then a friend got me to watch the TFS abridged series, now i love it and the real dragonball z. I'm not saying these things always help sales, but they don't always hurt them either.
So, Ayla originally looked almost exactly the same as Android 18. Toriyama sure reuses designs a lot.
Chrono trigger best rpg ever.
That's subjective
Not really for me, and I would rather play Dragon Quest

Was this video spurred on by all the speculation pertaining to Project Setsuna?
I scrolled down in the comments quite a bit and noticed that NO ONE made any mention of Project Setsuna. Rumor mill is abound that this is going to be the successor, if not directly connected, to Chrono games. I actually just started playing Chrono Trigger again, and between that and Chrono Cross, the similarities I saw in the 30 second trailer and 10 minute gameplay footage from Tokyo Game Show, I want to believe SOOOOOO hard that Setsuna is actually DIRECTLY connected to the Chrono games.
1- all three characters visible following the leader at all times, just like both Trigger and Cross.
2- X Strike is PAINFULLY obvious in the trailer
3- Enemies wander around the zones like in both Chrono games, as well as randomly meander during combat like in Trigger.
4- The format of the map is strongly reminiscent of both Chrono games, and even the layout seems reminiscent of Guardia/Termina area.
5- They played a classic music bit from Chrono Trigger during the initial review.
The only thing I am disappointed about is that they went with Triggers combat system instead of Cross. Chrono Cross has possibly hands down the GREATEST combat system in RPG history.
that screen where you are loked in the time travelling sreen i want that as my scree saver
2:12 it's pronounced *_OLD_* Man
+noisyturtle he said it right....i dont see how you can mess that up.
Xanderstrife No, you're not listening. It's pronounced _Old_ Man. Not Old Man. _OLD_ Man
noisyturtle i dont care if its more capital....the way you say it doesnt matter. Get over yourself.
Xanderstrife You'll never rescue the princess with that attitude.
+noisyturtle
No, I'm his brother, *old* man.
Did you know gaming? - Parasite Eve
Bravely Default FTW!
yea :)
The Tales of series is dead anyway and wasn't even that good.
just finished Undertale and kept getting nostalgia blasts from games like this. Now I guess its time to go back and do Chrono Trigger again... :)
Simple question: Could Chrono Trigger be the best game ever create ?
Short answer: Yes.
Long Answer:
You're goddam right it is !!!!!!!
I like how none of the poll choices have had a video made about them. Something tells me these guys did not want to do a video on either of them.
"Don't worry, there's no spoilers" Except the part where he has a huge spoiler warning and spoils the ending
Only one of thirteen endings
Love how there were still food puns to those 3 enemies. Toriyama still has a knack for that 🤣
I wish you had talked more about the changes / re-translation in the DS version. Particularly because it's so hard to find clear information on that.
Chrono Trigger: *has a literal motif of light and darkness, from the magic system to the use of lighting in the background designs*
ProJared: "a balance of dark and more lighthearted story elements!"
... well yeah it does

This game should be remade for the PS4 and Xbox One in Next Gen Graphics
Personally, this and Persona 4 Golden have to be the greatest RPG games so far.
Agreed
+BadassFreeman You summon the wrath of "the people butthut about the fact that Persona series series became more popular than the other Shin Megami Tensei series", and "those who overpraised Persona 3, unable to see its flaws, and hate the fact that Persona 4 is not as dark", which is something annoying.
And mother 3

I'll take the bait.
Go play a real SMT game, nerds
SerenGetter I'm on the tower of Kagutsuchi with Lucifer's Blessing.
WOW !
Thank you for the Chrono Trigger Resurrection WINK in your video, made me smile : )
Cheers !
Man I love Akira Toriyama art style so much
DYKG Secret of Mana
Ayla's original design straight up looks like Android 18 lol. I like her final look more. Not only does it set her apart from 18 but her hair looks more natural/wild.
Has anyone tried to petition Square Enix again to greenlight Chrono Resurrection?
I would have to choose Tales of series. I believe that there is a lot to tell about its huge selection of games and it is one of the more prominent RPG series from Japan. Bravely Default is mostly a one game with a relatively young history, it can wait.
as much as I love Chrono Cross I really wish they would've dropped the ridiculous amount of playable characters so they could focus on Magus and Schala
Bravely default

Yes
Did you know that Chrono Cross is the Beast Machines of video games?
Is that a good thing? I know I had tons and tons of fun with it, myself, when I was little.
MegaScience Beast Machines is a spit in the eye to any fan of the original that does nothing but mock their love of the original as a way to cheaply seem edgy, so no not a good thing, i mean there is a reason why Square usually makes anthology series,
Thanotos Omega :( Duuude, Chrono Cross was a large part of my childhood. And it is because my brother had Chrono Trigger, I think I played it a little, and then he got Chrono Cross which I played until the disc had more scratches than a mosquito ward.
MegaScience The hate requires more of a connection to Trigger, where you are then told that everything you did made the world worse and everyone you came to love is dead because of some random joke villain,
Thanotos Omega It did a good job expanding my young mind with the idea of choice. You find the same people, drastically different due to a cascading changes made by simple events. It's interesting. Also, he was the fluffiest villain... And I liked being a cat...
Still waiting for that winner to be decided...
I know Chrono Resurrection was legally a stupid thing to do, but I think Square Enix should've handled it differently. They could've allowed a free, non-profit release, or handled the sales themselves or something. It's clear that the team worked hard and didn't think what they were doing would be halted.
+Abelhawk Or did something like how Capcom handled Mega Man X Street Fighter. Have some people who aren't do anything help touch up the game and make it your own free project when you're obviously not selling the game right now. (It took them a couple years to bother with Chrono Trigger DS, it wasn't like they were actually MAKING that port right away)
Or actually let them sell it as long as square themselves get some of the cut
Look at black mesa, an actual remake of half life 1 unlike source
thecommenter67 Um...actually, if it was going to be sold, Square wouldn't let anyone other than them have any of that unless they became a combined development team.
I hope a true sequel to trigger come into fruition.. I'd really love to know what direction they were going to take with Crono and the Princess with the invade of those troops after they got married. I'm pretty they've escaped avoiding the ambush but at the cost of those lives in the kingdom..man, the story buildup from that short trailer is too good to let go forever. Maybe after the release of both Kh3 and remake ff7 they can get the time reserved for it.
So when is a winner going to be decided in that poll? I'm still waiting for that Tales DYKG episode. I bet it's winning and you guys are just holding out until the Bravely Default fans vote it up aren't you?
