Solving the gas problem for good!

- Tom Tom begins upgrading Dig Doug. The fuel tank needs to be moved so he builds his own out of a rusty piece of steel from @MattsOffRoadRecovery This could be the solution to running out of gas for good or maybe just delay the problem for another hundred miles.

One thing I really appreciate about Tom Tom's videos is he doesn't just tell you what he is going to do, he tells you why he is going to do it the way he does.
This is also the most valuable information extract from these. Learning the “why” makes things so much more applicable.
That’s only around 25 gallons
@briansmith1279 My truck with a tow package only has 21 gallons of fuel, so 25 gallons of fuel is great for Dig Dug.
Tom Tom is the Mr. Rogers of offroad equipment fabrication! 😂
Its a wonderful day in tom, tom's neighborhood, will you be his neighbor....
Tom, welcome to getting older! No shame. It happens to all of us. Glasses can restore what vision we once had.
This is a great tank design and execution is precise, as usual. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I'm amazed by people who take eye protection casually - it's usually people who work/hobby much more often who are the ones who take the least care... Safety squints work until they dont
Tom, got to admit, a little jealous of the courage you had to quit working for the man and go do the RUclips thing! I’ll probably work at the lab until I retire. Too chicken to take a risk like you did. Nice work!! Digdug is coming along nicely! Love square bodies!!
Watching Tom Tom start out is real good motivation
Excellent work, Tom.
We all get old Tom, as an ex-professional welder, I can tell you staring at a little green light for days on end can take its toll. 🤓🤣 👍
Get yourself a nice comfortable height adjustable swivelling stool, and a bending machine. 👍
Definitely want to seea video on the bender build. You do professional and fabrication work Tom.
Outstanding tank build. And I'm sure Angela will eventually drive the Shute when she feels comfortable. Your channel is headed in a good direction.
Angela is blooming on your channel. I remember the first you introduced her.😁Glad to see you two together. Family first!
Was so happy to see a Tom Tom video today! I love just putting the video on, leaning back in the ol' recliner and watching the fabrication magic.
I'm 56 and been wearing reading glasses for about 5 years. I'm building and need then for all the close up stuff. You gotta do what you gotta do. Just embrace it.
Nice tank!👍 I wear multifocus glass when I'm working in my shop. 2.25x on the bottom of the lens for reading and up close work and low power 1.25x on the top of the lens for everything else. No need to take reader's on and off or look over the top of them. About $20 on Amazon
I'll switch to 3x reading glasses for welding, it really makes all the difference.
I always had great eyesight, but now at 58, not so much.
Wowsers Tom, you can make me a fuel tank ANYTIME. Nice work. Thanks for the video.
I enjoy watching your videos on your channel. Here as a subcriber from MORR. I do hope you stay on Matt's channel. Your engineers mind, way of doing things, and humor is a great counter balance to Matt.
Great job Tom! There is a corrective lenses that fits right in your helmet so you don’t have to fight with glasses and a helmet. Have one in my Miller helmet and it works awesome!
I've got reader sunglasses and reader safety glasses. So nice!
My last navy command, I was a sheet metal shop supervisor. Your craftsmanship would have been a huge asset in my shop.
It's always a chill build with you Tomtom, just a guy working on their hobby. But the way you do it properly is what makes it interesting, keep making stuff overkill! Also can't wait for angela taking on some offroading, maybe even duel against Jaymie sometimes in future 😂
Thank Matt for bringing you on and hope ANGELA is up for many more adventures love your fabricating ❤😊
Hey folks, let’s see how fast we can get Tom Tom to 100K subscribers. He’s the real deal and keeps excellent company. (MORR)
I love seeing Dig Dug getting the upgrades it deserves.
Dig Doug is coming along very nicely. It handled the "shoot" chute easily! Making the bends on the sheet metal to avoid welding on corners is a smart idea. We're enjoying the content!
Now THIS is good clean Family fun and entertainment. Well done Tom!!
more fun then a barrel of monkeys?
definitely want videos on the sheet metal brake and other projects
keep up the good work
Glad you are getting your truck dialed in Tom Tom.
Tom - its always a pleasure watch you fabricate.
Your humble personally pairs well with your exceptional talent.
Look forward to the next one.
Just heard today that you're leaving Matt's off-road, which is sad for Matt and the crew, but great to hear you will have more time for your great channel. I'm glad to see the shop coming together, and great fuel tank!
I do a lot of reloading and it's unbelievable how much better it is with my old man reading glasses. Great Video Tom Tom...
You are immensely talented Tom. I'd watch you fab anything!
Huge difference between the quiet and steady focus of Tom, and the crazy chaos that you find on other videos. Good luck with your channel Tom
Build it Tom I'll watch.😊 I'm not getting old I've been old for 20 years.😊😂
TomTom i turned 50 in August of 2023 and I also use reading glasses because of my vision impaired. They help me improve my eye sight tremendously. So, you look awesome TomTom. Keep up your great videos.
........... Hey Tom,
you bought them @ Walmart so they cost much like "safe-glasses" so the replacement will be easy when new is required. They also look the same.
Cheers and kind regards,
Malcolm.
Just what this Sunday needs ! Build video! 😎💪💯
You and Matt make a great team, but it's awesome watching you do your own thing and creat your own channel.. I wish you both nothing but the best. I've really enjoyed following along
Happy Easter, best of luck with your channel
measuring tape and 3ft level on the table at all times.... calculated precision ... awesome editing....
Tom, reading glasses don't matter...melting metal together building things matters! Do your thing bro! We'll be watching.
Happy Easter Tom. As someone who has built tanks, more bends less welds= less leaks😊
First of all thanks Tom I always gravitate to videos explaining the "why" of a project. Secondly, everyone should re-watch the last ten seconds when Angela, upon hearing that next trip she will be the one piloting the chute, shuts her eyes tightly and mouths "oh my god". Can't wait Angela I sure you will do fine.
Woot! Another Tom Tom video! Build that sheet bender!
Love the show. Angela did great. Ready for more videos
Your videos are entertaining AND informative. That's the secret to success on RUclips.
Thanks Tom. Great job. Keep them coming Darryl
Would love to see a steel bender project Tom.
That 45 degree angle double bend to make a 90 is great. This is why I really love your channel. Keep the vids coming!
hello Tom,
missed meeting you at the O.R.G., but did see dig dug parked along the road.
Love your shop fab videos.
Ha ha - a fantastic video by 4-eyes! Thank you for bringing us along!
Tom, you’re such as greater builder. Don’t fell bad cause all of us are getting old. Nice video buddy.
Tom Tom, I started using my wife's reading glasses around the age of 45. Of course, that didn't sit well with her, so she made me buy my own. Now I won't weld without my readers on. Welcome to middle age, my friend!
Don't worry about the glasses Brother, I woke up 45 and blind, had to give in and get some readers. Great video and I love your projects. Keep up the good work
Love that Tom Tom has his own channel now.
Hi Tom Tom.
I really enjoyed your video. You definitely have talent.
Love the background music, camera views and angles. Your voice is soothing to my ears.
Great job buddy!
Keep them coming. You are awesome!!
Great video Tom!
You definitely need a decent pressbrake and a milling machine!
I'm sure there are some sponsors out there that can see they will get value for money by donating them to the cause!!
Keep it up dude!
I like the look of Digdugs dash.
The sloshing of the gas is called the free surface effect. By using baffles, you divide the area of the free surface of the liquid into smaller areas that have less momentum when a change in direction occurs with the vehicle. I would make an access panel in the top of the tank, one for each cell among the baffles, that way you'll make it easy to clean the tank if you ever have to. Doing it before you weld the top on will allow you to weld nuts under the top to hold the covers.
Great video, Not boring with a lot of grinding and sanding. It is like Tom is talking to a friend. He does outstanding work without being full of himself. Keep the videos comming. You are so right about the reading glasses, I never thought I needed them untell I tried a pair, what a differents.
My eyes turned to crap just about my 50th birthday. I now keep reading glasses everywhere so I am never too far from a pair. They make all thedifference. Welcome to the senior club!
All I really want to say is, I enjoyed every minute of your video, Tom! 😊❤
I got readers all over the house! It happens to the best of us!
Happy Easter. Glad you are doing more on your channel. Great work!
Tom,
I sure would have made a skinny tank go all the way across the bed. This uses the bed space more efficiently. More metal but less welding.
No laughing here, I have a set of prescription glasses made just for welding. My trifocals just don't work at all for welding. But the good news is I'm in my 70's and still fabricating. Never give up.
Welcome to old age!
Man, I just really enjoy watching you build stuff, Tom! Keep at it! ❤
You are making a great addition to your truck
Tom is awesome. Just a good guy who deserves a follow!
I'm going to comment, as we don't need to only have 666 comments. I love your channel, I have been binge watching your videos. I didn't realize that you moved to Utah to work with Matt, but you and Matt have a good team, and you both work well together. It was good to see your wife out with you wheeling! I enjoy your videos.
I really enjoy a technically oriented channel on the subjects of my interest. Your channel is now top on my list of must-watch. Having your own channel is a perfect match for your smooth and thorough presentation style. Keep the videos coming. Thanks
Great channel Tom Tom, keep up the great vids 👍
Next time you are at you local weld shop ask for lenses for inside your weld helmet. They slide in right on your weld hoods lense. Life changing
Incredible! Awesome job Tom Tom!!
Nice job on the tank! Looks great Tom
Hi, Tom! Enjoyed your video. Now I can't see up close. Thanks a lot! 😂
I speak for everyone.... Bender build....yes! More Doug
Aww...don't feel bad about your eyes. I have several years to go until 'm 50 and I have a whole collection of cheap glasses scattered throughout the house and car for some years now :)
And yes I said the same thing when watching my hands in detail again: "Wow, should've done this years ago". It is what it is. Keep up the good work!
Tom Tom, thanks for the video focusing on Matt and your business and personal relations. Also, it's cool to get a bit more back-story on Matt.
Great to see you Tom Tom & Angela, Sister Christian you’ve got this ! The Chute, not a problem you could do it in reverse. I can just tell by the way you are a natural!
Easy for me to say from the comfort of my recliner, not teetering on a rocky cliff! 😂
Look forward to seeing your projects
I would love to see you build a bender TomTom😊
Good luck Tom Tom! Looking forward to seeing your progression.
Nice work Tom Tom !!!
Great videos good luck with your channel 👍
Very Nice tank! Where's the sending unit hole? Tom: Angela's a sweety! Good fabricating! Great job skills! Thanks for a great video! 👏👍
Thanks Tom for your videos and stepping away from Matt. While I appreciate him getting you started in this, we’re glad you are doing your own thing as Matt seems to be spending more time with his toys than his trade. You are consistent. Keep up the good work! We would like to see you get to 500,000 subscriptions before this summer.
I admire your Candidness. I Love My "Reader Glasses" too !❤
Tom Tom, nice project! You're looking at the glasses wrong -- you've **Earned** and **Survived** long enough to wear glasses! :). You might find a "metal finishing drum linisher" as indispensable as I do for sheet & tube work. They're about $125~175 depending on where you buy. There's a HUGE variety of different drums - non-woven abrasives in a variety of grits, paint stripping drums, wire wheel drums, felt polishing drums, lots of usefulness for the dollar. The coarse non-woven disks are literally the perfect weld prep disk. It crushes surface rust & dirt, and leaves a smooth finish with parallel lines instead of the random swirly pattern. I build motorcycle frames from scratch, and I give every tube, every piece of sheet this treatment and it makes everything work better.
Loving the fab work! Gas tank is coming out great! 👏👏👏👏💪💪💪💪
I feel you Tom, I wear readers under my welding helmet too. Tanks looking good!!
Tom, your experience with the new glasses had me doing Brian Regans "I could have been seeing stuff!" Line in my head.
Build the Bender! Keep up the good work Tom.
Thanks for the explanation regarding the reason for having the sections of the fuel tank have different sizes.
I've seen the chute over at the MORR channel a hundred times at this point. Not once has it appeared as steep as in this video. A true eye opener!
Also, those glasses look good on you. No shame in taking care of yourself!
love your work Tom Tom, and your not rowing the glasses boat alone just started my self . love the videos , can't wait to see whats next.
Hi Tom Tom! I really enjoy watching your videos. They are very helpful and learning is enjoyable watching your videos. Best wishes and keep up the Great work!!
I remember my first pair of readers ! Fun times ! You can also get a lens for the welding helmet ! Thanks for sharing !
This was really enjoyable, I have to admit I enjoyed it much more than I originally thought I would. The explanation was nice. Keep up the good work.
Girls day out will be fun episodes ❤..and Tom gets a call! 👍😎✊
Welcome to the club. on your glasses. it sucks getting old.
Tom Tom I really enjoy watching your videos and like the way that you don't cut any corners like those good enough mechanics........keep up the great work. Tom from Florida
You move at a good pace with good explanations. Darryl
A Blessed Easter to All !!
