Somebody declawed my hammer-I just lost it😂😂😂.
now we know why Tom left
I enjoy how you interact with your fur buddies
@@tskeditionClearly pulling off the great hammer claw heist was Tom's last great act at MORR.
One day, if cast iron goes up to 1 million USD per pound, he should end up with a great haul!
So. Roofers without a claw hammer! Lost!
@@MarkWilliams-lf5tc If one morning, every roofer in Utah wakes up and finds their hammers declawed...I know who suspect #1 will be - Matt.
Because Tom will have laid a trail of evidence pointing right at him. That criminal mastermind.
Put a pin on the bottom of the lift pads that goes in the hole on the lift arms, so an arm does not slip out from the under the lift pad.
you sort of have a point but ramp arms do lock at the selected angle so not as bad as u think
and a notch in the rear tab to drop into the hole on the lift pad. It's not the arm that will move, but if the cab turns or gets bumped, if could slide off the lift pad and fall on someone since it has such a small contact area and tolerance for misalignment.
Yeah that whole thing seemed unnecessarily sketchy with people working under it.
@@turbo2ltr welcome to the world of matt🤣🤣🤣😂
A lot of people had the same concern as I did about pinning the cab to the lift not trying to tell anybody what to do it was just a concern
The Bombi has come along ways your doing awesome Matt

Jake holding it together after watching the boss drill too much of a hole 🤌😂
So perfect, well done sir!
I have to say, Jake has been a great addition to the channel. He’s quite a character, and seems to be just a super cool dude.
Yeah Jake is good vibes only
The declawed hammer is brilliant! If Tom did that he is an evil genius with a good sense of humor. 🤣
I saw the episode Tom did it. It might have been on Tom's channel, I'm not sure.
I believe it is a different hammer but it doesn’t matter it is so funny 🎉🎉🎉😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😎
I would've opted to weld another hammer end where the claws were.
@@skiqsr I'd seen Tom's video, but just looked again, and it's the same hammer. He did it in the MORR shop and threw it in that drawer! 😂
He should have welded a ball peen to the end of the claw
Matt matching his employees to Mash characters was hilarious. 😅🤣😆
It's funny, no one ever mentions Frank when they talk about MASH. 😂
@@ripn929707 Larry Linville was one of the best performers of the cast, and real nice guy off camera. The character we love to hate, always a tough role to play.
He didn't mention Radar did he?
@@hondolane3125 He was great. When they replaced him with (?) the Dr. from Boston, it just wasn't the same. And the dynamic between Hot lips and Frank was hilarious! 😅🤣
Well, it does have some similarities to the show MASH, a continuous number of returning cast. Members that randomly show up and changing of some cast members occasionally. Hmmm there was even a few patients that were in multiple episodes just like a few of their regulars needing recovered.
My daughter turned 13 in 2013 and I caught her watching MASH and laughing at the witty humor and one liners. Totally surprised she got it. She said if you listen to what they’re saying it’s hilarious but you need to pay attention or you’ll miss it. Yep, that was how it was and some got it and some didn’t get it. Great show.
Katelynn's smile every time she is in that race car is infectious!
Kudos for the Mars Rover reference. As an electronics designer of the Mars Rovers I tip my hat to all of you at MORR. By the way, doing wiring is just like solving a challenging puzzle. Very satisfying. Cheers! (Oh, and I would be happy to come to your shop and help out with the wiring - and YES you crimp those ring terminals first then heat gun them).
[By the way, doing wiring is just like solving a challenging puzzle. Very satisfying.]
Wiring is an art. I'm old-school electronics, I design and build vacuum tube amps, all 'point-to-point' wiring (no circuit boards) and it can either be a chore, or be nirvana, state of mind and having the right tools and materials is essential. I noted Matt using the term "looming", which is interesting, as it predates my years, even my being decades older than Matt. "Bundling" and "harnessing" are the more popular terms, but Googling "cable harnessing" produces many excellent hits, including the term "looming".
In an environment where there's a lot of harsh movement, like in the Bombi, 'strapping' the harness (Using cable ties made specifically for the job) to the adjacent surface minimizes the chance of strain pulling lugs apart, or the bundle getting chaffed on sharp edges.
@@jamesbender1967the dbag comments are here no bs thanks to you.
I work in the same industry and want to add that you should never add solder to crimp connectors "for good measure". The solder will wick up the cable and the individual wires will easily break at the point where the solder ends.
yessss! I'm glad you said it lol. I didn't want to be "that guy". @MattsOffRoadRecovery please invest in a set of Hexagonal Crimpers, the Cabac K06 (6-120mm2) are an excellent starting place. (also, no need for solder in any of these lugs if they're hex crimped 👍
@@johnwalker2303 I totally agree with you. What I was referring to are the kind of terminals that are crimp on the wire and are covered with shrink wrap covering that shrinks to envelop the wire. Great for ring terminals. Cheers!
I love the fact that Matt shows his roofer past with his love of claw hammers and his out look on things like, it only needs to look straight from the gourd. The fact that some one cut the claws off his hammer had me smiling, But as a carpenter myself I fully understand his love for the claw hammer.
I was a roofer for over 40 years. I always said that if looks good from the ground and keeps the water out of the house, it is good enough.
That would be Tom Tom who did that.
Someone shortened the handle on my framing hammer because I was always choking up on it and not using it to it’s full potential. I never found out who the culprit was, but the hammer worked for me.
As someone who has a entire drawer of a rolling toolbox dedicated to hammers I find it funny. I've probably got 6 claw hammers, more ball peen hammers and a short handle 6lbs sledgehammer for just them special jobs. One is stress relief breaking rocks not what really needs to be hot with it at times. 🤬 people. 👍
You folks ROCK! Just an FYI I soldered my battery cable lugs on my boat years ago. Did NOT crimp them. I had starter problems for months till my brother was actually looking at the soldered cable lug as I cranked it. He noticed the solder melting, as soon as it stopped cranking it hardened back up. I NEVER soldered battery cable lugs since. Again just an experienced FYI
Wouldn't hurt to give Chad a call with your wiring questions. He might tell you that wire connectors in automotive applications should be crimped, not soldered - including those big cable lugs. The solder stiffens the wire which can cause it to eventually break due to fatigue caused by vibrations. There's also a chance of the connections becoming desoldered if there's ever a high load on the wiring.
It never ceases to amaze me. Every youtube channel gets parts from paint or powder coat and immediately drills holes into the parts.
They can oversize the holes slightly and then no problems. No drilling. But if you do drill, at least then paint or silicone the bolt hole.
And you normally wouldn't lay all your parts and tools on a freshly powder coated fender, but it's not a show vehicle so what the heck. 28:24
Given how much powdercoat paint I've dealt with in my life... It'll be fine... It comes from the paint booth with defects anyways.
I build 10x $100,000 machines every day and every single powder coated part is highly susceptible to rust.
@@Yugemos Are you saying powder coating is no better than paint or even worse than paint?
@@Yugemos it could also be that your powder coating process is flawed. some manufacturers are well known for shitty powder coating. good powder coating seems to protect well.
So, you got the heater back in October, winter is now long gone, and now you are going to install that heater. Right on MORR Schedule 😂
With Matt better late than never.
I don't think they put a heat control or valve to stop the hot water circulating when the heater is not in use. That's going to cook them on hot days, but I guess it won't used on hot days.
@@TrevorDennis100they could just bypass the fan system and open the doors.
its not like thats going to be the last winter ever
The good news is that Winter Is Coming
Katelynn is always smiling. Makes me happy.
When soldering those terminals onto the large wires, the second one you did is a cold solder joint and will be brittle. The wire is cold and the solder is hot, but the wire will not be hot enough to pull the solder into the wire so it’s just connected on the exterior. That one is likely to break eventually. When soldering like that, all components must be heated.
A lot more people in the world need to be as happy as Katelynn getting TO THE RACECAR! 😂😁🤟
Do you realize how great that sounds? “Katelynn has a rock crawling competition she’s going to”….That is so freaking awesome.

Hey Matt
I wish you would consider doing a series including a very basic explanation of how vehicle work- maybe a short course for totally auto ignorant people like me!
I watch your RUclips s whenever they come out- both the recovery shows and the repair and build shows. I appreciate your humility and kindness and think your staff is delightful!!
Your shows have made me interested in how cars work rather than afraid of them! At 70 years old that is quite a mind shift.
Your de-clawed hammer gave me a chuckle.
My brother & I were working ion a refrigeration installation in a bar one day. Trying to put in cable staples in a really tight area, I was hitting the staple with the hammer turned sideways. Busted off a claw. A few minutes later I busted off the other claw. It was a steel shank Craftsman hammer. I said, “Dan, we better stop at Sears on the way home and buy a new hammer.”
My brother said, “Buy? Nah. Craftsman tools have a lifetime guarantee. They’ll give us one.”
We were twins, but my brother was way more assertive than I.
We went into the tool department, picked up a new hammer and went to the register to exchange the broken one. The cashier called the department manager over to approve the exchange. He looked at it, noticed the battle scars on the sides and said, I’m not going to give a new hammer! You’ve been beating it on the sides, not the business end!”
Dan came right back with “Show me in the catalog where it says “You must not hit the hammer on the sides.”
The manager said, “OK this time, but don’t come here again!” Dan said, “Fine. There’s only about 15 more Sears stores around Philadelphia. You gonna put out an APB on us?” Then we left. We were about 17 years old, in the late 1950s. I miss Sears…
Congratulations on getting the Bombi done in time for summer! Oh, wait....................
You guys are awesome! Jake has me rolling with every video. Love the content. Matt, you have an amazing crew!
A happy, skilled team and happy work environment, way to go !
As a snowcat operator one thing I always wanted is a auxiliary diesel heater in the cab so it stays warm and dry when it’s at idle or off. Please install one!!
Those aux heaters are awesome. Can leave a vehicle warm and hop in without having to idle for hours.
Seeing how Matt is usually in a T shirt on his snow recoveries, and wipes snow away with his bare arms I don't think extra heat is a high priority though 😂
I don't think it's necessary considering theyre never really just sitting around in the cab and the bombi runs high RPS so would have plenty of heat from the heater already
Gas engines tend to warm up better at idle than diesels. A gasoline heater like a VW Transporter had may be more trouble than it is worth.
A gas engine should produce heat at idle. But I don't hate the idea as a backup heater in the case of complete engine failure in the remote wilderness.
@@bgee461 It doesn't get very cold down where they are, it's usually barely cold enough to snow for a couple months and most of the time it will snow a foot and be 60° the next day!
Watching the younger generation helping out proves there is a future for more fabrication by Matt’s team
Great video!! You guys got a lot done on the Bombi!! It's looking really good!! Hope to see it in action real soon!!
Hey Matt.
I have had a very similar problem with friction welding differential spider gears together. I used to do a fair bit of off road competitions and our rigs run a 3rd diff in the transfer case, this allows us to unlock it, pull up the handbrake and spin the front wheels. Works amazingly to make tight turns, you can almost make a full within the length of the vehicle if you do it correctly.
Long story short, I have tried everything I can think of to force lubrication into between the cross shafts and the planetary gears. Eventually I spoke to our oil supplier at the office and he recommended I try RAVENOL RHP (75w-90) In fact he was so confident in the product he sponsored it to me to try. Years down the line and I have not broken another 3rd diff!!!
Yes I suppose you also need to be aware and not let one wheel spin with the engine on the limiter while the other is stationary, or in my case do doughnuts continuously. I stop after a few seconds to allow the oil the penetrate the gears and go again.
I don't know if Ravenol is very common is the US, but may be worth seeing if there is an equal grade oil.
Great show, you guys are the Highlight of my Mondays!
NASCAR uses an oil cooler on the Ford 9”. The pump is powered by the drive shaft. This might solve your oiling problems with the inverted carrier.

Love the reference to M*A*S*H. My Dads favourite TV program back in England. I was allowed to stay up late on a Sunday night to watch it, I can still remember my dad chuckling.
As a learned wiring dude I can weigh in on the crimp or solder or crimp+solder!
If you can crimp, crimp.
If you feel like unnecessarily do both, crimp then solder.
But never solder then crimp! 😅
Soldering the crimp prevents water intrusion and corrosion from working inside the terminal and up the wire.
Crimp only if you have the right crimpers. Otherwise, the wire may pull out. But a good crimp is great!
@@CarswithNash irrelevant.
@@Ganiscol I guess it is if you don't care about your wiring working long term...
@Ganiscol Nope. Dodge trucks have a long history of corrosion working its way under the insulation on battery and ground cables. Mechanical connection first, then solder, then heat shrink.
