Typically I will take a day off from work to brew while the kids are at school/daycare. Although if I really want to get a brew day in on a weekend, I will prep and mash in during the day, maybe over a nap and then later that night post bedtime, I will finish up the brew day. And totally agree, keep it as simple as possible, I've been doing 30 min boils here and there, especially for hazys. Maybe even chill halfway and let it sit overnight to fully chill and pitch yeast the following day.

I prefer to brew with grain and water, not sure why you'd brew with kids instead.

Personally, I prep things the day before and wake up early to take just 1 to 2 hours of the time the kids are already awake. Besides that, i bought a new system, Minibrew/Exobrew that let's me brew every weekend with just 1 hour spent between getting things preped and all the cleaning. Sure it's not so hands on and has some limitations, but it gives me the possibility of brewing which is the most important.

I typically do three vessel all grain brewing. It’s not the kids, but just stamina at my retirement age that makes a long brew day a chore.
I am considering experimenting with an overnight mash, followed by next morning boil. Just splitting it up over two days (late evening & early morning) and you might get the whole thing done while kids are in the bed!

I'm sorry but having kids is a poor excuse. We all have the same amount of time in a day.

      That doesn’t make any sense.

@@joshuapinter I have two kids and brew at least twice a month. It's something that makes me happy and my family supports me and my hobby. I return the favor to them. It's called finding a balance.

@@justinbrewitt5192 in fact my daughter is on the softball all-star team and my son is leaving tomorrow to compete in the state short story competition. I'm all set up to brew up an IPA tomorrow. I'll turn on my Brewzilla before breakfast, take my daughter to school, start my mash, and be cleaned up by noon. Balance is the key to happiness and being a great parent 🍺
