8:26 - In the video I think they're interacting with relationship blockages that are being illustrated by the vein-like parasite on the guy's neck or the little guys trying to bite onto the female alien's face, ie. they're sources of provocation. Pulling his ear out and letting it be separated from his usual way of doing things yielded the possibility that the blockage or (idea or memetic) parasite could be removed. Their music tends to be very spiritual in the Jungian sense, heck 46 & 2 gets explicitly Jungian talking about the shadow.
You'll find that a lot of Metal, particularly Progressive Metal, and Rock, have odd time signatures, tempo, and beat changes, etc. Much of the reason is to add difficulty and complexity to the music, including their ability to play it. Progressive bands, such as Tool, Rush, and Dream Theater, place more emphasis on very precise playing. Lyrics, are important in all of these genres as well, but not in every song, of course,
Man, if you're into bass, Tool is where you need to be. Killer bass and drums and interesting lyrics is their trademark. Also polyrhythms and time signature changes are the norm for them. It seems odd in the beginning, but I promise they will grow on you! Schism allegedly has 47 time signature changes, which is extreme even by Tool standards. As for the videos, don't waste your time trying to figure them out because it's just avant garde art which never has any obvious connection to the songs at all.
@@eddybassreacts You may want to try their song, The Pot. It's a bit more conventional and is generally recommended as one of the best Tool songs to introduce a new listener to. It's a really good song and with a bit of funkiness to it. I think you'll love it!
For the time signature I count it: 23223 or 1 2. 1 2 3. 1 2. 1 2. 1 2 3 repeating. The other section is a phrase of 6&7 123456, 1234567 repeating The interlude thing is like 6/6/6/9 or something like that

The level of creativity, technicality and complexity which still sounds simple in the ears is something else
No tool videos ever!!!!!! (Unless they’re lyrics videos)
Okayyyy...
