I was checking my snap memories and it turns out I finished my executioner's greataxe build exactly one year ago today! This weapon was so much fun. I see you really made the most of that crit multiplier!
Awesome coincidence again, haha. Testing out all these weapons and builds without Talismans and buffs shows me that we don't really any bonuses if we play to the weapon(s) strengths.
I haven't, but if a weapon skill is the only highlight of a certain weapon, I don't personally find it interesting and there would be a high possibility of me being bored.
I used them a while back and my feelings were the same then too. You really only get vertical swings with narrow hitboxes on either the regular R1s or powerstanced L1s. I need variety to stay interested in something. They're good if you're going for high DPS with quick and easy status procs. This greataxe really does look badass. I think, since it lacks some utility, hard swapping between a few of them with different AoW could be a fun way to improve its utility. I practiced this on a powerstance pike build for around an hour and I'm already having more fun than before when I virtually never hard swapped.
Hardswapping is tough for me, I managed to get the hang of it in DS1 because I actively practiced but it's been over a decade now, haha. The Pike is actually something I'm trying out soon too, I want to see how well the up-pokes do against Malenia.
@@magnolia549 I think it works very nicely against her. About a week ago I defeated her for the first time with the pike + sword dance + wizard shenanigans :)
@@ETBrooD Congrats on the win! :D I already recorded a Pike fight with Malenia and yeah, I love it. I love fast weapons with absurd range and it's even better when I don't need to use them as a crutch.
@@magnolia549 Thank you :) Your videos were actually my main inspiration. Initially I was planning to use an overpowered build, but I rejected that idea after seeing your battles. I first learned to beat Elemer and other bosses with no gimmicks, and that helped me learn to beat Malenia as well. Looking forward to your future videos :)
Greataxes share the same Stance damage as Greatsword, Curved Greatswords and Great Spears. What makes them better at applying Stance pressure are their movesets, speed and range. The regular Greataxe moveset lacks in all three, it has above-average attack speed on a regular R1 compared to other heavy weapons but the narrow hitboxes means that you can't make use of that speed as often as you want/need to. The Crescent Moon and Butchering Knife are exceptions to that rule; I'm assuming Godrick's as well.
I just farmed the Crescent Moon Greataxe and spoilers: I love it! It's tied with the Butchering Knife as my favourite Greataxes. They truly highlight the need for more moveset variety; even within the same weapon class. I already did a Butchering Knife fight in the past, but I think I'm going to do both and compile them into one video. P.S. Oh, I tried out your fashion tip with the Nagakiba and it's great. Katana is the only class that has a unique scabbard placement for powerstancing. The scabbard is still long but at least it no longer clips into the ground. I was testing out Bleed with it and since it's on the left hand, you can't buff it with Bloodflame Blade so unless the person is willing to use Blood Grease, Occult w/ Seppuku is the best choice.

First weapon I used on my blind strength build
Memories
You got this to drop on your first playthrough? Lucky, haha!
Well well well played, bravissimo!
Thank you! :)
I love greataxes this one is pretty cool
have u tried Fallingstar Beast Jaw? u can hit her from a distance and break her stance every 4 hits lol

You should try paired Omenkiller Cleavers, I find the dual greataxe moveset way more enjoyable than the two handed one.

Glad to be of help!
Wow the fact you got only what, 1 or 2 stance breaks on her phase 1? I did not expect a great axe to have the same values as a great sword

Love this weapon stats, sadly its so fucking ugly. Crescent moon, tho, are amazing looking.
