I am an older gentleman in the San Francisco area. Visiting my best friend in New York about 20 to 30 years ago, he took me to this short lived Gay bar called ROME, where all the staff were dressed as Roman legionnaires. They had a beautiful, darkened space down stairs called the catacomb, with white veils blowing and a white candle in the center of the floor. My best Gay bar experience ever, and unlike anything I ever saw in San Francisco or anywhere else. Evidently, the magic was lost on most. It only lasted a very short time.
I lived in Brooklyn until August of 2001 and the West Village was where I hung out. Ty's and Boots & Saddles were my mainstays and the atmosphere was always friendly.
Broke my heart when Therapy closed last year. It was my favorite place for a quiet conversation and drinks...good bar food, too. And then it was crazy at night. But it was a victim of the pandemic.
Very excited about it! I was there before on winter and spring, never in fall...happy to know that is a great time to be there. If you're in NYC we can go out if you want :) would be fun!
I’m looking for any info of the gay hustler bars and the male stroll around the 53rd & 3rd area and elsewhere in the city in the 1960s/1970s/1980s. Does any such footage and documentaries even exist? Thx!
Memories. I've been to Studio 54 back in the day. I ended up at Barracuda in the 00s...always went to age appropriate bars and clubs. That's when I heard about Hells Kitchen. I don't go anymore. It was a shallow scene, but fun while it lasted.
I’m planning on moving to Greece. Live in California. Saw your video on dating in Greece but Im looking for serious men who are interested in a relationship. Any tips?
I try to get to NYC at least twice a year if/when I can, and usually find myself going to either The Monster or Ty's on Christopher Street. I'm more comfortable at Ty's. The bartenders are friendlier, and people there are easy to talk to. The Monster has become (to me, anyway) a bit more pretentious.
One of my friends just posted on FB that it was just announced that Boxers is opening in Washington Heights. A lot of gays are migrating there which kind of surprises me since it’s so far up town. I like having drinks in the summer at the Gansevoort Hotel rooftop in Meatpacking, which they are renovating now. It’s not gay but amazing views, drinks and super comfy seating if you have a small group.
Never been to that hotel! Summer Sundays they have a "gay night" on the Monarch rooftop. That's a great one for views too. That's awesome about Boxers coming uptown. I've always wondered why there's only 1 gay bar uptown (it's near Columbia University/Harlem, but it's tiny and so forgettable..can't even remember the name), despite there being a huge community of gay men up there. So that's great!
VillageKevTalks on a separate note - have you explored Ft Lauderdale and Key West while you’re there? I’ve been to Miami dozens of times but have never been to either. Finding community is really important especially as you get older. Ptown is a great community but I need a winter location. I want to see Wilton Manors.
I've been meaning to check out Fort Lauderdale, but haven't yet. I went to Key West a few years ago - kinda hated it. Small, campy, and the beach wasn't great. Not for me. Yeah I keep hearing about Wilton Manors! I guess that's the Ptown of the South it would seem.
Ill be in NYC this Labor Day weekend, I want to check out a classy spot that has lot of professional male Gogo dancers or strippers. Got any suggestions. Btw, I've never watched male performers in a club before, so i want my first experience to be positive.
"classy spot that has a lot of professional male gogo dancers or strippers." I can't with you lol. I'm not sure if such a place exists in NYC, at least out of the gay bars. I actually can't even think of any bars I used to go to that have gogo dancers...Eastern Bloc did, but that bar no longer exists. Hmm. I think you should try Chippendale's or one of those kinds of strip clubs honestly. Lol. Enjoy your trip to NYC!!
Also which is the best dance club for a older gay guy like me. Can go.I am kind of isolated so please recommend a safe place. Thank you. I love your site
I never really go to clubs so I'm not too familiar; I know more about gay bars...but most gay bars in Hell's Kitchen have a dance floor...like the Ritz, Industry, and Bottoms Up/Vodka Soda. Cheers!
I miss the huge dance clubs like 12West, Paradise Garage, Roxy, The Saint. That's the clubs that I grew up in. 1974 to mid 80's. Many incredible memories.
Tristiano Mendes DaSilva Check out Gay Clubs NY, I tried to get specific names for you, but despite having typed Gay Clubs Yonkers, the list included bars in Manhatten as well. The list is very long and I’m not familiar with place names in Yonkers. I hope that’s a place to start from for you

Damn! Sounds like the Studio 54 days

Yes I heard it closed! I really liked it as a venue, architecturally / design-wise inside I mean. A bit more posh looking than most gay bars, lol.
@@KevenTalks I like posh! :-)
Great info! I'll be in NY for a couple days on Nov, Looking forward to have fun in the places you mentioned. :)
Awesome, I hope you enjoy it!!! Fall in NYC is the best time to be there 🍁
Very excited about it! I was there before on winter and spring, never in fall...happy to know that is a great time to be there. If you're in NYC we can go out if you want :) would be fun!
I moved out of NYC in April :) I hope you have fun though!!
For happy hour you can't beat "The Monster" in the village across from The Stonewall.
I haven't been there in ages!
Thanks for the informative summary.
Thanks for watching :)
I'm going in a few weeks! Where can I dance to pop music all night??

I know nothing of it but sounds scandalous and fascinating! Lol! Good luck with your search.
So sad, no more genuine leather bar in NYC ! I miss the Lure 🖤💙⛓️🧤

Don't use Grindr! LOL
Hi
So no gay clubs or monthly gay parties in club-like venues like for example in Berlin?
There are clubs too, I'm just not into clubs lol I like to meet and talk to people (easier at bars)

And also I believe The Monster has a cover charge? Who wants that?!?

Are there any gay bars in yonkers?
Yonkers is pretty far from Manhattan honestly, I've never been...I'm assuming there aren't any.
