It depends if you're using a laptop keyboard or a desktop keyboard. Function keys don't work properly on laptop keyboards. You need to be using a desktop keyboard.

Simply pushing f4 isn't adding the dollar signs
If you're using a laptop, then you need to press and hold the "fn" key at the bottom of your keyboard along with F4.
