The confidence, swagger, and intensity when they played live is obvious in how they looked, acted, and sounded. They knew they were creating something unique and amazing right in front of the eyes of the world. They were living legends whose star was getting brighter each passing day. Their place in music history was cemented long ago.

although the image is not clear as in other videos of the time, the video is fantastic because we see Deep Purple as they were in live performance: so young, so simple in clothing and movement, no theatrics (Gillan is just weaving his hair left and right) and the music is simple too, just for their amusement, nothing too much, just a song that they could easily play any time of the day, and generally nothing as big and artificial as in todays performances. Even the sign with their name is small and simple.
Mucisians are trying many years to do a song like the Deep Puprle songs, but they cannot. Rock bands don't even manage to play their songs as good as they did, always they overdo it, they play the guitar solos for more time, the play the drums louder, they sing the song screaming, they create a mess. So, long live Deep Purple.

Jon Lord plays the Hammond without a Leslie because he used to say it makes organ players lazy. He actually sounds like a guitarist playing bar chords with the consecutive fifths. The harshness and brashness of Lord's playing technique was brilliant. His replacement after he sadly passed away tries to maintain Lord's original sound. Lord was the man and the ability to engage with Ritchie Blackmore like dialogue was amazing. Ok They all contributed and the teamwork was a joy to behold.

Smoke on the Water ... hell, a song with a riff and a structure so simple that virtually NO ONE can interpret it well, except the MKII line-up of Deep Purple. I've been listening to different covers for decades, some better than others, but then one comes and listens to what Deep Purple was doing with the song and it's totally unheard of, at first it seems that it's not another thing, but the cadence, the tone, the color of the notes only these guys could "paint" it in this way. That's what music is missing these days: PERSONALITY. Not even the later Deep Purple lineups got this inexplicable energy and if yo do not believe me, take a look at what Joe Satriani says, one of the guitarists with the most technical resources that has ever existed: Try to play it with energy but don't over do it...damn! That is hard.

John Lord was playing a Farfisa organ that required open heart surgery before Purple could play. I never expected to tour as a crew person with Deep Purple about 1987 on the House of Blue Light Tour,... but you just never know. A couple of friends of mine went to work for Purple after I finished the tour. One was Steve Morse, who needs no introduction,..and Scoots Lyndon who was Rogers bass roadie.

When you look at the so called "artists" of today I realise how fortunate I was to grow up in this era, so many great bands and musicians have become the soundtrack of my life, Cheers.

Quizás nunca más escuchemos y veamos conciertos de música como la que hizo esta banda DEEP PURPLE .Pero , gracias a la tecnología hoy las nuevas generaciones pueden escuchar y disfrutar de este genero Hard Rock .

This is seriously the best song. I love the fact that they took a real life rock and roll event and turned it into a musical history lesson. I hear Funky Claude is still running in and out.

We all came out to Montreaux
    On the Lake Geneva shoreline
To make records with a mobile
    We didn't have much time
    Frank Zappa and the Mothers
Were at the best place around
But some stupid with a flare gun
Burned the place to the ground
Smoke on the water, fire in the sky
    Smoke on the water
They burned down the gambling house
It died with an awful sound
Funky & Claude was running in and out
    Pulling kids out the ground
    When it all was over
We had to find another place
But Swiss time was running out
It seemed that we would lose the race
Smoke on the water, fire in the sky
    Smoke on the water
We ended up at the Grand Hotel
It was empty, cold and bare
But with the Rolling truck Stones thing just outside
    Making our music there
With a few red lights and a few old beds
We made a place to sweat
No matter what we get out of this
    I know, I know we'll never forget
Smoke on the water, fire in the sky
    Smoke on the water
