Nice review of Jason! Was thinking is getting one of these, but wanted the 8W variant.
I've not found the 8w model with triband yet
I wanted to order one of these when they first came out and missed it. Pulled the trigger on it this time. It's $35 and I'm mainly interested in the 220 side. No real activity here on 440, all VHF.
Amazon has a Nagoya NA-320A that is tri band and SMA female.
Thanks for the video and the link!
I bought the Baofeng UV-9S Tri. It had the same stupid dual antennas but mine came with a 70cm and 2m on one antenna and 1.25 on the other. I bought a folding antenna like the one I saw on HRCC, but tri-band. You both ROCK!
What’s the brand of that antenna? I’d like to try to fine one with SMA male to fit my FT3DR.
@@mattw5ltz579 The manufacturer's name is ABBREE. I found it on Amazon. I think the model number is AR-152 and it's a Tri-band CS Tactical Antenna.
Hi Jason - great review, as always. I've used Baofengs over the years and they are ok for general use as well as in a pinch. I am interested in getting a useful triband ht so I look forward to your "best" triband ht review when it come out. My friend still has his Kenwood TH-F6A tribander and I lean in that direction. The TH-F6A also has one antenna for all three bands. Good observation there - does not make sense for Baofeng to furnish two antennas that do not cover all (3) bands for the radio.
I bought a BTECH UV-5X3 (Triband) and put a Diamond SRH320A antenna on it. Programmed it with CHIRP. Put in all the local repeater frequencies just to find out that they are still dead. They were a bit more active twenty years ago. One of the major 220 repeaters in my area is out of service until further notice. Radio works fine.
I had that radio and it is one of my favorite tribands, currently
I’ve got a “Mirkit” version of the 5X3. Assuming they are the same with a different name?
I'm a fan of tri-banders too. I prefer them always over dual-band units.
Yes but here in Atlantic City NJ, there is only ,1 220 repeater but 440 machines are linked up all over. To many snobs on 440
Maybe just me because I’m visually impaired. But would a white background be better? I struggle to see the details. Jut wondering. Thanks for video.
How do you know if the UV-82 is tri-band or dual? Are all UV-82's tri?
I would like to know more about a see a comparison between this radio and the UV5 Tri-band version. Possibly how they operate with the addition of a 20 watt amplifier for mobile or home use. I Enjoy your videos.
I am working on something similar to that
I’ll agree with Bill - would be cool to get your take on a comparison between that radio and the UV5R x3 version. In fact, I’ve got a Mirkit UV 5R MK3X that is be happy to loan you if you’re up for it. I picked it up last summer... maybe I should take it out of the box and charge it 😁.
Agreed, I have been working on that video for a short while. It will drop soon
I have the Baofeng UV-RX3 tri-band radio. I bought it because I thought it was important to make use of all of the bands available to us. There aren't many people in my area who use the 220 band, but it might come in handy if I'm traveling.

Jason - what model was the tri-band, Diamond antenna that you mentioned in this video that you like for the D74? I looked in your amazon store but couldn’t find it. Thx!
amzn.to/3iZvYJE
I like the rebranded uv 82 pofung version.
They seem like there coming with better antennas now.
Yes
It is superheterodyne, like Yaesu, with low spurious emissions, good for amplifying
IDK about this one...
Dual Ptt. Cool!
Look forward to new video on best tri-band radio and recommended price from low to high budget radio for category! Thanks
Coming soon!
R tone is most likely for the UK and Europe market to key repeaters.
Good to know, thanks
Oh check out the uv82 long battery makes it look army like n slide down body holder ..
I have an 8W baufeng that has orange trim. Still trying to take time to learn about the radios
What is the mode # of the Baofeng 8w tri-band?
Hey Jason not a bad radio 👍
Hi Jason I have a question. Would you trust a B Tech radio over regular baofeng radio? I guess which one would you buy first. Handheld or mobile radio either one.
Thanks
R-Tone is repeater blast tone for activating a repeater
Press F button while keyed up
That should be called "CTCSS"
Im looking at getting me and my wife a couple Baofeng radios and looking at the UV 9R pro, what would a good suggestion be for getting myself one or maybe a better bang for my buck radio I could to keep in contact with each other. I currently have a few GMRS radios and plan on getting my HAM license very soon.
Nice
Excellent video 73
What's the most powerful handheld available and how far will it reach ?
Probably the Leixen Note. How far it reaches completely depends on your terrain and location
Do you still prefer the UV5x3?
Yes
Hello kc5hwb, i'm looking for a dual PTT walkie talkie, dual band is ok. What do you advice? Is there any more reliable radio than the UV-82? Thank you very much
I just ordered a pair of these. When I saw the performance on 70cm I was worried. They arrived last night and each of the 3 bands shows 4.7-4.9W on my cheapo swr/Power meter. Maybe you got a bad one or I got a good one or their QC ain't so hot.
QC is crap. It is very possible that there are some good ones out there.
Looking forward to the review of grievances W9YCD
With all respect and appreciation, can you explain to us about wouxuon kg-uv9d mate and watt power if you please,
wouxun kg/uv9d mate
It is a high-power version of the UV9D - I just received one to review, so I am going to play with it for a bit and you will see a video on it soon.
Ham Radio 2.0
all the respect and appreciation
Plz suggest me baofeng uv 82 or uv 9r plus ?
The duel PTT is why I'm buying one..after some more UV 5riii ,I like the uv5r accessory's and battery shape. But not got 🔋 cases..don't know about battery extender for car.. I make double if I flick one. Duel display.not duel band display. Triband duel display duel receive...my pardon me .good pike.
That is a nice feature, yes. I have mentioned that in other videos I've recorded with this UV-82(x) models.
Hello my uv 82 dual band is stock on frequency mode, can't switch it to canal mode. would you know what am i doing wrong
can't find the link for the diamond tri-band HT antenna for the Baofeng,
can you do a review on the tyt dm-uvf10 analog i m using this radio but i cant seem to get find the software for it,even not on the tyt website(i know you normaly do reviews from new radio)
Interesting, thanks for mentioning this model, I will check it out.
@@HamRadio2 its analog and dmr and i know you like dmr so :)
How do you know if it is a UV-82 tri vs. dual? I would think the model number differentiates whether it is tri or not.
I learmed zero here....I don't know what. Triband is or have your extras
You didn't link the antenna like you said in the video 😕
Question,do i need to charge it for 5 hours for first use?
what's the best all round best long range radio for please sir
Thanks for review!! Tyt 350 instead?? Or maybe get lucky and no 82 Lemon.
The TH-350 yes...or the BTECH UV-5X3
@@HamRadio2 okay thanks!
I bought one from Radioddity on eBay shortly after they came out. Its pretty much what I expected... a UV-82 with 1.25M. I agree, the antenna swapping is incredibly stupid.
Should review Redell UV99+, 10W VHF+UHF radiofon
Not familiar with that one, I will look it up
It’s a dual band not tri
I have the UV-82X, 144/220. They don't make it anymore.
73 DE K5VPC
It would be nice if they could do AM for listening to the military air band here in the UK.
get a RTL SDR Usb stick for that purpose.
On the 220 band what license do I need. I have a technician license at the moment and working on my general. 73 K3GFE
With the Tech license, you have full privileges on everything 50MHz and up, which includes 220.
Thank you. I am still unsure on which frequency’s I am allowed to use
@@gerrecksrationreviews2484 Everything 50MHz and up, and some below there too, depending on Band and Mode. I like to keep a Band Plan handy with me most of the time - www.w5yi.org/downloads/FreqChart.pdf
Get the Wouxun
I've had the UV8E since it was released, it is even worse with intermod than this one is
I'm sold on duel PTT an I'm a tribander like someone you know.but is the uv82 duel band ok on 440 rx.if so I will get the duel band unit..buying next week..or next..
Is this better than the UV-5RX3? I'm a noob.
Nope. UV-5X3 is a much better radio
I like "Chinese HT"
hi, does the yagi antenna can be use or work on baofeng uv-82?
Sure, just find one with an sma connector
@@HamRadio2 thanks sir, that's why i ask some opinion of the technical person because my friend says it can't be work as he said that baofeng is for flat surface only and not applicable on mountain areas. is it possible sir even if there is yagi antenna?
What’s a good antenna for this radio?
How far they work?
seriously co sidering getting one
Hi friend .
I've noticed something. The dual band
Version has a much more decent antenna
I wonder if the radio was made better internally
for 440 on the dual band.
Yes the dual band version is a better radio
I take it that a UV-82 can be dual or tri?
@@JbowlizzleKC yep. They make tri band versions, dual band versions and different variations that they
sometimes stamp different
model numbers on .
Do you know any chinese HTs that are triband, 8 watts or at least 5 watts on ALL bands? Im looking for a triband radio that doesnt suck in 1 of the 3 bands.
TYT TH-350 is the best one, imo
You would think in 2022, these Chinese radio manufacturers would release a dual band P25 trunking radio to be competitive.
uvr9 vs uv82? about max distance... That is the question. Please...
Distance ALWAYS depends on what is between you and the station you are trying to talk to. There isn't a clear answer to this question.
With clear line-of-sight, you can contact the ISS or bounce signals off of a satellite in orbit. But when you are talking ground-to-ground comms, it depends on your elevation, the trees, building, houses in between you and the other station, and a wide range of variables.
@@HamRadio2 What would YOU buy for comunication in town, or in the caravan driving/traveling? uvr9 or uv82?
hi! we will go to a festival with a big group of friends. so far we will have 4 walkie talkies, can l join them with one of these?
It depends on what bands and licenses their radios have
I just bought this radio and I must have received a dud. It's quiet then all of a sudden the display 's colors start flashing and the radio makes a horrible sound . No audio from a repeater though. I put it next to a Yaesu and tyt. I put all 3 on the same frequency and the other ht's don't do this. The tyt is a uv-8000e it's a great radio and has many features my Yaesu doesn't . I found thru software I could activate 220 mhz on this radio but I was told not to transmit as the radio was not designed for that band and I could damage the radio. There is an se model which is advertised as tri-band but I could not find it for sale anywhere. The e and se look exactly the same. Is it possible they are the same radio with only a software change? Anyway for the price I would say the tyt is a great radio and would recommend it to anyone.
Bro can you please review the new uv5r 12watts if that is true?
It’s already in the Philippines 🇵🇭 being sold in lazada online shop
But I’m skeptic about it.. because sometimes they pull the features on the box but reality some or not true so maybe you could help me or us regarding this new 12 Watts uv5r
It's not 12 watts.
I was told yo never try and talk on it....jad I known it was Amazon Id never jave bought it
KO4ESA
So far it sucks real bad....useless
