The Jedi have been known to be hypocrites (from an outside perspective), but the Shadows go beyond the norm of Jedi philosophy and morality.

It makes perfect sense that the Jedi would store Sith artifacts and study them instead of trying to destroy them. Those artifacts could give a Jedi insight into the Sith's philosophy and what they practiced. I don't see an issue with that. One of the most important rules of war is to know as much about your enemy as possible, especially if it would mean discovering potential weak points.

There could be many reasons why study them. To be able to see how some Sith abilities work to copy/counter them. To better understand force and it's limits (officially, dark side is side of force that is responsible for natural disasters and must not be touched by humans, according Jedi) . But I agree, that it's mainly for shadows to be trained in finding and dealing with them.

Not only that, but why can't some of these be destroyed and then shove the info on a Jedi Holochron? All the Information is there, but WITHOUT the Dark Side Influence. Plus, there HAS to be a point where there's no more information to be taken from something, and it's better to destroy it. At the very least, more of it SHOULD be better locked away securely, to where fewer Padawans and such can access them!!

@@TheAyanamiRei As I understand it, they were locked away in temple. Just its old and big structure full of people who has force. Protection wasn't enough. It could be simply against their ideology to keep Sith knowledge in Jedi Holochron. Would it be still Jedi Holochron? It could easily change into trap. Jedi nature is to be passive and don't fix what is working. This flaw was stronger after centuries without Sith influence. It was simply their style, lock them up and let problem for later generation.

I can come up with a couple of little points: sometimes the Jedi struggle to destroy things. The act of destruction can be seen as dark, on its own. The Jedi tried to smother the dark locus on Coruscant, instead of purifying it, and it bit them in the butt. They might easily see the danger of these things, but using their light powers to ruin them could taint those very powers. Second, and this might be hard to explain, but those objects do hold...something. They aren't merely physical books, containing dangerous ideas, and instruction; they are tainted by the corruption of the Dark Side, and this is what can seep into the unwary, and cause them to fall. That essence is a thing, and if you destroy its vessel, that doesn't mean you necessarily destroy the essence; you simply release it back into the galaxy. Contained, it is still dangerous, but you know of it, where it is, what it is doing, and may be able to limit access to it. Destroyed, that darkness is now free to spread, and to take on a new form, purpose, and act outside your perception, or control. I feel some of the Jedi might have preferred keeping these Relics to keep the taint in them confined, and isolated, because they knew they were more then just objects, and they knew evil itself cannot be destroyed; it can only be fought.
Of course, there will also be those radical Inquisitor types who seek to know their enemy, and use their own powers as their downfall, so maybe some Masters wanted to be able to reference these things, fearing that even a thousand years after the defeat of the Sith, they could never be sure it wouldn't resurface, and they'd need to know what to look for...even though that's the very issue; it changed its form while they weren't looking.

In KoTOR, I always held on to every sith artifact I could nab. Destroying them is to the sith's benefit, not the jedi's. The dark side is out there and it will always be out there, so understanding exactly how it works and what it can do is necessary to fight it. Hell, just use Exar Kun as an example. Kun ignited his saberstaff directly into his master to end the fight. This trick worked only because the master didn't know it was possible. Destroying all knowledge of saberstaffs will only condemn yet another individual to die whenever they get reinvented. Or possibly a lot of people. Usually a dead Jedi is going to be followed by a lot of dead other people.

  • @SundayTopper
    @SundayTopper Год назад

I have a few theories of my own as to why Jedi might keep these artifacts around. I'll address them by 'type' of artifact.
Non-haunted items: These items contain knowledge, information, and techniques that Jedi might find useful in some way, shape, or form. While some Dark force techniques would likely tempt the user with continued use, learning to understand how a power works has it's uses from learning how to defend against, or counter-balance with a proper Light force power to negate it entirely.
Haunted items: Since these items are housing actual spirits of people, Jedi may face a sort of conundrum where they simply cannot destroy them, for doing so would also destroy that person's spirit. Such a act is 100% counter to a Jedi's sense of compassion. While they may kill in battle and combat they do so knowing that the dead will rejoin the Force. To destroy a spirit would not only throw compassion out of the window entirely by denying them any chance of redemption it would also deny them unity with the Force; harming the Force itself and going WAY out of the natural order of things. It's my opinion that this act would be as damaging to a Light-sider, if not more, than the item itself. The only option available to them is to try and hide and lock the item away for the safety of all in hopes that no one is harmed by the item, but also that the spirit could be persuaded to seek Balance, leave the item voluntarily, and rejoin the Force.

Theoretically, there is also the reality that as virtuous as the Jedi held themselves in their own eyes, all of their members were fallible. Therefore, there exist the possibility that there may have been Sith artifacts stored (and thereby not destroyed) due to the finder/cataloger/both being unwilling to destroy said artifacts. Sometimes the power to destroy is not in question, but the willingness to destroy.
There also exists those who know that the Force is an entity of both Good AND Evil, leading to the potential belief that destroying anything touched by the Force, unless deemed absolutely necessary, is in a way moving against the whole of the Living Force. This may have been seen as a more radical view, but based on the beliefs of some of the Jedi we know of (Quigon Gin being an example, if I am remembering correctly) we can infer that this belief did have roots and branches already established at least by the time of Order 66.
    Anyway, those are my thoughts.

Keeping it near them would also be within the philosophy of "keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer". Especially if it was an artifact to strong or perhaps too dangerous to destroy. I'm sure there are artifacts that would have horrible consequences from being destroyed. They could piss off the dark side of the force. Or maybe the force as a whole?

That the Living Force will eventually set forth the motions every time to rebalance itself via destroying the corrupting factors. Sith Artifacts may possess will but ultimately wouldn't under normal circumstance be able to overtake the Light. Or interrupt the processes of the Force, until a Force Sensitive comes along and actualizes the will of those artifacts.

I was thinking that since everything in Star Wars is tied to a dark side and a light side that destruction of a Sith item can either create a disruption in the balance or that it cause a Jedi artifact to be destroyed. Although not Star Wars, this concept is used in Dark Crystal, where the death of a Ur mystic is connected to the death of a Skeksis. Perhaps the study and preservation is tied to determining what affect a destruction of the artifact would have in the Force or Jedi artifacts.

The more I read/learn about the Jedi the more I hate them. They are literally theur own enemy.
"These sith artifacts can corrupt and twist people just by being in their presence... Lets put em in a box in our temple where we teach children!"
"We know Sith artifacts can turn a trained jedi master to the darkside eith just a touch... Toss it in a box in the basement."
"This planet is so infused with the darkside it corrupts all... *slaps a 'do not enter' sign up* that'll keep people out right?"
"We had jedi turn dark and murder people. Lets slap em on a ship and send it randonly into space. What could go wrong?"
"Whaaaaa?! The sith are back? A Jedi went dark by touching an evil sith artifact we kept in a box?! WHO WOULDA THUNK IT? WHO COULD HAVE SEEN IT COMING! IF ONLY WE HAD SOME SORT OF PRECEDENT OR MAYBE SOMEONE WHO COULD GET GLIMPSES OF THE FUTURE!"

I think one of the reasons to keep the artifacts was in case a new sith had the same, or at least very similar, artifacts. The Jedi would then be able to study the artifacts to help give them an advantage in battle.

I would love that as a series. Star Wars has always focused on the Jedi and the triumph over evil but we need movies/shows that are focused around Sith ideology. I personally cannot wait for The Acolyte. I just hope that it tends to focus on the Dark Side of the Force primarily. We have never fully explored the Sith religion or what draws certain people to it. I would honestly love a new Trilogy that focuses on The Old Republic and the creation of both the Sith and Jedi orders. Long before the Skywalker saga. We have seen enough about the characters and stories that surround that part of its history. I would love to see its progression from the beginning and explore Sith Lord's such as Darth Revan, Darth Nihilus, Darth Bane etc. There is so many stories in the 1,000+ years before the Darth Plageuis/Darth Sidious Era begins. I can only hope!🤞🏼🤞🏼

It should be common knowledge to anyone who is actually paying attention that the jedi ARE a dark side organization.
First they created the Sith Order.
    They collect dark side artifacts.
They hide knowledge from the rest of the galaxy .
They have absolutely no problem killing force users that disagree with them.
For example: Yoda had a force vision granted by the whills of the clones slaughtering the jedi , but kept it to himself and did nothing.
Mace Windu attempted to assassinate the Supreme Chancellor.
Obi-Wan Kenobi blatantly lied to Luke.
Obi-Wan Kenobi left Anakin to die on Mustafar.
As so-called guardians of the galaxy they knowingly allowed slavery and other atrocities to happen because the corrupt republic told them to.
They were closer to the dark side than most Sith .

I'd say this is why Palpatine pushed for Anakin to be on the council, to gain access to the restricted section of the archives. To gain these artifacts. Although had he, he could have really went mad and killed palpatine then lol.

In the Jedi Sith wars the Jedi struck first by exiling those who studied the dark side. Even though the very force which created them encouraged study of both sides of the force. The Sith ,who are great at holding onto past injustice and pain by definition will never forget this.

I think by "study" they mean to assist in the creation of the sith.

Yes, but there’s an underlying issue with that because they know that if they keep the artifacts, they will be able to plan and fight against the evils of the Sith and in legend, there is an order above that Jedi council. They’re only mentioned in passing in the old republic. Do you ever heard of the saying the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Plus, there were several dark Jedi that fought against being controlled.

  • @leroyfish4381

I believe they kept the artifacts around because of balance. If there is no dark how would you know what light is. If some dark side essence is around. The Force would want to balance itself when one side or the other dissipated drastically. Hence the chosen one. He is the essence of the Force trying to balance Darth plagueis and Darth Sidious manipulation of Force by creating life unnatural. By keeping it in a artifact of sort. It will become exceedingly difficult to exercise it's Will on the universe.

Because they want to summon sith ghosts to tell them they smoking on that Plagueis pack
In all seriousness, it’s all about balance. If they destroyed all the dark side artifacts the balance will tip to the light side, causing the force to balance by giving favor to the dark side.
Plus if a light force user was to do dark force users stuff(like kill or destroy things). They will lose their favor with the light side of the force. This will weaken that person, like Anakin was when he fought Kenobi on Mustafar
