Nice one Ben, keeping busy with the sqiddlys. Well done for another great info vid. Hope you enjoyed that weather doing it! 🌧 😖 Quick Q: What do you reckon on best tide state for squid jigging?
Hats off Ben for sticking it out in that weather. I'm planning an all nighter this weekend, wind and weather looking good , squid to start then I'll be on a close by bass mark for the dawn session.👍
Thanks Dave, bad weather don’t bother me if the fish are there il stay all night! Your plan sounds a winner though I may stick a live bait out while I’m Squidding myself this weekend
Great video mate! Must have another go for the squid soon. Saw a couple attacking my baits on the Westin camera this week so will drop some jigs now I know they’re about. Atb, Mark 🦑
@@theamputeeangler Hi Ben, well I made the 101 mile trip to try and catch some squid, it was a pleasure to meet you and your son on the beach with CJ as you were all just leaving. I did give it a go for an hour or two, changing lures often, even had a little glow light stick on one set up. But not a single squid Just like you said the water was a bit chocolatey, no show for the squid. How long is the squid season from shore Ben, will I have time to catch one this year. All the best Russell
@PumpTheRod Hello mate! Thanks for letting me know how you got on and also for confirming I was right to leave, I didn’t get the vibes it was going to switch on that night the conditions just were not great! A friend had 4 but at the opposite end and said it was very tough! They squid will be here conditions depending till early December before they push off and then we get another run in the spring which can be caught in the daylight!
Hi great video 👍 I’m Brighton based and have had success few weeks back when conditions were very calm and offshore breeze. I thought you can only catch them from the beach in those conditions but I went to Weymouth squid festival on Saturday and someone from Chesil bait n tackle reckoned they will be about a lot more than people think and in varied conditions, what is your experience of this? Cheers
Hey Alastair how are you? Thanks for watching and commenting! How was the festival? I’m going to go myself next year it looked a lot of fun! Personally here we suffer a lot with the fresh water run off from the rivers, cuckmere, Ouse,Adur and Arun which makes the clarity horrible and brown and simply means that they can’t sight hunt their prey. It’s not so much the rough weather that’s the issue if the water is still crystal clear it’s just the clarity and the fact they cannot see the jigs to hit them.
Nice one Ben. Still a step too far in my case for a wheelchair tho. I've seen an episode of yours at the Hope, and was wondering if the squid made it up that far on a flood tide or even at the fort. Hard to find fishing access for wheelchair anglers in Sussex. Heard recently that your pins have been giving you a bit of gyp. Hope your sorted soonest and getting back amongst it. Loving your videos. Cheers.
Hi David thanks for watching mate! Yes buddy they do get up the hope into the harbour but you would be better off at the west beach car park facing south they get in there too mate and I have seen them caught there a plenty 👍🏻
Thanks for posting, very helpful. I've noticed a few videos showing squid fishing from shingle beaches, is this just coincidence or are shingle beaches best for squid? Thanks 👍
Morning Steve thank you for watching! Deep shingle beaches are ideal as the squid come right in the edges to hunt. Piers and jetty’s also great but they get packed out and rammed for obvious reasons!
Hi! I'm new to squid fishing , hope i can get some advice 🙏! What depth you fishing at bottom, middwater or top ? If i fish deadbait under a float how deep shall i set the bait? Thanks!
@@IMUK3128 Hey buddy!! Nearly always as close to the bottom as you! They will take on the drop or higher up but ideally you want to be just off that bottom 🦑
Very rarely as there is no hooks on the jigs just the barbs but occasionally a mackerel or bass will swallow the jig and get hooked up but very rarely!
What a lovely night to be out squid 🦑 fishing. Well done Ben.
Thanks matey! Really enjoyed this session and the edit of it!

@@catfrab thanks for watching matey!
Few hours up to and over high seems to be the kiddy 100% and nice calm sea state!
@theamputeeangler Cheers bud.
Caught squid 40+ years ago when I used to fish Brighton Pier, same type of jig. Thanks for sharing.
That answers Cjs question of if they have always been here then!!

@@theamputeeangler that should be a winner Ben , I'm no fair weather fisherman as well , spent 30 winters drowning lug on the southcoast beaches .

Yeah I have had a few go at mine on the boat but I shall try from the shore this week if I can! Hoping I can get a few on it last light
Great video mate :)
Cheers dude
Really enjoyed the video thanks for posting. Will be giving it my first go very soon.
Good luck and come back and let me know how you do! It’s great fun

Good video, what size jig did you use ?
Thanks Steve - a larger one, 3.5 👌🏻 got some smaller ones coming to compare though 🙏🏻

Hi. Great video, thanks. Do you know if there is a size limit for keeping squid for the table? Thanks.
Nope no size limit at all on Squid either for the table or bait 👌🏻

Well becoming g this Friday the 4th.
I’m not sure that clarity will be there for you to be honest it is horrendous here currently and will take a while to clear out!

Hello mate. Nice video. Love it: you've encouraged me to come there too. Where is it about? Do you have the post code? Parking area??? Cheers mate
