    The GOAT
    26-2 avenged both losses
    20 UFC wins
    9 title defences
    2 weight world champion

The GOAT will always be subjective. There’s many things to consider- record, title defenses, opponents, if PEDs were involved, controversial decisions and how well rounded the fighter is in all aspects of the game. To me, GSP is #1 because he is the most complete fighter in terms of martial arts ability, avenged his only 2 losses, never popped for PEDs, 9 title defenses and won belts at 2 weight classes. He fought the best of the best and dominated everyone. Outwrestled wrestlers, outstruck strikers. The way he carried himself, no champion has. A true martial artist and class act- my hero & all time favorite athlete

Remember meeting him in a gym at Montreal, never thought I'd be emotional seeing a legend who inspired me to learn kickboxing and jiu jitsu. Such a humble and respectful person. He's the best to have ever done it 4 real 💯: 9 title defenses, 17 fight win streak, 2 division champ, 2 losses of which I remember him demolishing Matt Serra, & Matt Hughes with the same armbar he got defeated with. I don't want to get started on his training routines🤦🏽‍♂️: doing gymnastics pushing the limits training under water with weights, stretching, oh my goodness! As a fighter, u could clearly tell he grew developing his skills. Love those superman punch-low calf kick combos he throws to close distances while switching angles to avoid getting hit. One huge issue with GSP was how easy he gets cut bleeding so much. However, a lot of people never really noticed he wasn't really getting hit as compared to multiple strikes he kept landing on his opponents just like his fight against Bisping.

He defended his title a few times and bounced when he got too old to do those harsh cuts! Jones ruined his career being a multi cheat and all around awful person. Kamaru still has a chance but he's just so cringey and hard to like. GSP is a god in the UFC, he built the sport and changed the game in so many ways, from training to diet and even pushed for stricter drug testing to help legitimise the sport. The fact that Khabib, with a 29-0 record and his beloved late father talked about only GSP as the one person they like to test against before Khabib retired.... says all that is to say about how much true elites like Khabib respected GSP. None of the others in Khabib's division were up to his level. Unfortunately, for both --- even if they are both around 5'10" --- GSP had never fought at 155 and Khabib had never fought at 170... so theirs was a fight that never could have happened, even in the best of circumstances; if one went to the other's division, it's likely going to affect his strength a bit...

Wasn't a GSP fan for quite a while. I always waited for someone to knock him off. Loved Serra doing it, but after... It just never happened. Guys I bet on like Koscheck, Shields, Alvez, on and on, just fell to the guy. He was so consistent I just one day realized he is truly the best of all time. You can't help but respect a guy like this. Super humble, super damn humble and kind. Always showed up prepared and ready to fight. Never missed weight or pulled out of fights. He would take time off after the fight and gut thru countless injuries. That's incredible. He went in there literally injured and constantly faced adversity, insane amounts of criticism, pressure and never didn't show up. That's character. Now I study how he trained, how he thought. Read his book, try to focus on his principles in the gym. Being consistent and showing up. He's a great role model for fighters and athletes.

I met George like many people in Montreal have. I was at a festival and he was waiting in line (yes waiting like everyone else) a few people ahead of me. He noticed someone dropped a napkin and he picked it up and put in the trash. I couldn’t resist asking him for a photo, he grabbed my phone and wrapped his arm around my shoulder.
    10/10 human being.

    Great video!
I've always held the opinion that GSP was the greatest to ever compete. For all of the reasons everyone else here has mentioned but also because of his losses and how he rebounded from them. Many times we've seen undefeated fighters across combat sports suffer a single loss and then never seem to be able to get themselves back together. It's like the defeat just crushed that spirit in them. A few of them are fortunate enough to never have been defeated and retire before it happens. We can say that maybe they were just smart and got out at just the right time. Maybe so. Though we'll never know how someone like Kabib for instance would have handled a loss.

I followed GSP from the start, he has always been my #1, it’s funny, watching this got me a little emotional. I arrived to Toronto in 2000 as an Aussie and was definitely proud to be a part of his fan base in Canada. His poise, professionalism and integrity set him apart from nearly every other fighter. It’s so interesting to think of his mental state and the psychology of a fighter - he confesses that he hated fighting and every fight he competed in, but his desire to attain his goals and dreams gave him the strength to become his best self. Much love and respect always for GSP. ✌️👊

I have since learned more about his career and appreciate why people call him the GOAT.

To me GSP is the GOAT.
    1. He was the champion in 2 divisions and for many years (yeah the years matter as well not just the fights).
    2. He had many many title defences.
    3. He avenged his only two losses in an emphatic way in both occassions.
    4. He was dominant in his wins most of the times.
    5. He never popped for anything.
    6. The level of competition that he beat was the highest of all other GOAT candidates (only Jones can be considered to have had the same level of competition).
    7. He was an all around fighter. He could do everything extremely well.
    8. He always carried himself out of the ring like a GOAT and was the face of what the sport should be like.
To me the only other person that could be considered the GOAT is Jones. If hadn't failed on No5. so many times I would accept him as the GOAT too. No other fighter even comes close to be considered the GOAT in my opinion.

Naw if GSP wanted to fight I think Dana love to have him. Aside from Conor noone does GSP kinda numbers and the promotional protential would be bananas! The only problem I could see is if Dana is worried that GSP in a title fight would probably win and immediately vacate it and that kinda fucks up the division or makes the talent pool the ass ts left look not as great. I don't know if GSP would want just any fight unless it was a title fight tho because he would like to show he's still the best to so maybe no that's the catch?..

Ok... but what makes him the real GOAT is outside the octogon
    - Makes the sport popularity too another level, more worldwide than only american
    - First too bring new sponsor not in the fighter market (like Underarmor or Gatorade)
    - Everything he did to stop drugs and fight for USADA
