      My sister and I always say if you're thinking of having a baby you should buy a puppy first. That way you can prepare for the lack of sleep and get used to living with your partner even through the grumpiness haha

    This makes absolute sense. My gut instincts even tell me these house cages are wrong. I certainly agree with your way. A baby dog taken from its comfort family only to be left alone in a cage at night frightened. And we the idiot owners think - it's got to get used to it when it's scared out of its wits and doesn't know what's going on. This is so not fair for the puppy cos it's a baby. I think you should bust your gut to make it feel comforted and sleep with it but don't play with it cos obviously it doesn't have a clue about boundaries or bedtime etc. The lead thing is so true too, they will follow you naturally and this is the time to get some "fun" training in and NOT serious. Therefore you will need an abundance of patience like you've never given before. Can't wait to get a puppy one day.

    Congratulations Krohn family and Mango!
    Larry, I've watched and enjoyed a good number of your videos, but what I have missed is, how do you train an older puppy or dog not to bolt the moment it is outside the house or fenced yard? We have leash laws in St. Louis, but I see neighborhood dogs that "stay" on the property, regardless the temptation. I'm certain not all have invisible fences. Thanks!

    Love this so much! Was referred to you for our 1st puppy, which we're getting a couple of weeks and am really loving your philosophy. One thing I can't figure out though - you say you don't want her on the leash because it's not natural for her, but then in other videos you talk about having her on the leash 100% of the time when she's inside if she's not in her kennel. I agree I don't want my puppy running free in my home! But can you explain why you suggest leash in the house (as opposed to, say, puppy gates or a playpen to contain her within the room with you?) Thanks so much!

    I'm having trouble with mine malinois (75 days old). She doesn't have a crate, she sleeps on the floor on her bed or with me on my bed. Shes usually biting erverthing she sees, but sleeps well at night. I think my mistake is not waking up every 3hrs, but I sleep in a very tall building and taking her out every 3 hrs isnt easy, but I think I might have to do just that for now.
    Do you think that is obligatory to have a crate? Unfortunately here in Brazil those things are expensive as hell.

      Hey mister R, I've a 4 month old mal and during the first few months I barely slept and woke up every couple hours to take him out because he was either whining to go potty or I got up to take him potty regardless of if he whined or not. A crate is a must with a malinois and any dog under two years old. Eliminates accidents and prevents chewing. Mals are chewers

    Hey Larry, congrats on your new pup! Ironically, i will be getting my European Red color Doberman in a few weeks. I have the breeder cropped his ears and I thought it'll be nice for him to stay there for a couple of weeks to allow the ears to heal and he'll be able to play with his siblings during that painful period. Now, my question to you is that, what is the best technique to make sure my Dobie (the breeder named him Carson) becomes friendly with my immediate family members but not to all strangers of course cause, i will still love to keep the instinctive element of him being a guard dog? Are there any training that can help me facilitate this behavior attributes under command?

      In both videos he specifies off leash outside... Inside where you can't always see the puppy getting into something it's good to leave a leash on . Outside puppies tend to stay close to the new owner he takes advantage of that so that they learn off leash outside off leash is no big deal .

    On long drives with puppies how long can puppies hold it before needing to go.

    • @konstance7087
      @konstance7087 6 лет назад

      Kung Fu Kenny from my experience; you go by the dogs age (on average).
      Eg if the puppy is 2 months old it needs to go every 2 hrs. If its 3months old, it needs to go every 3 hrs etc. It can be earlier but its an average. Its not until its fully grown that it can hold on overnight. I always take my adult dog out for it to do its business right before we go to bed and she can hold on to the next morning without any problems. Thats my experience. Mind you, in saying that, a couple of friends have adult dogs and their dogs wake them throughout the night to go out to pee.

      Helll. First of all good luck. I picked up my pup at 7pm last night. Didnt go until this morning. They have lots of anxiety stemming from separation and all this change so they tend to internalize that anxiety on individual basis. Also if you stop liquids prior to 7pm and toilet before 11pm they tend to be ok.

    I love the videos man I find all of them to be really great and you’re one of the few people that i trust when it comes o dog training, but how the hell do you keep your dog to stay by your side when you’re walking in completely new territory? I feel like almost 9/10 times the dog is gonna search around simply because it’s curious. I live in a rather wooded/forested area so that’s not necessarily ideal especially due to ticks and wildlife. I would love it if you elaborated more on that or if the dog simply did not leave your side, which I find fascinating.

      Wtf no. Yeah parvo is a risk but most dogs are vaccinated to the point of herd immunity. That's a total of 8 weeks of development that you'd make them miss out on for the minimal risk of catching a disease. Double their entire life at that point.

Are you sure you have a new puppy named Mango because it seems to me that you didn't get a new puppy. Maybe you thought about getting one and you were on the way to pick her up but she is not ready yet. Anyways, let's see Mango if you got her home yet.
