- This track always reminds me of being young and watching TV after midnight where channels started showing adverts for 80's or Power Ballad compilation albums. You'd hear all the great chorus from Broken Wings by Mr Mister, to Alone by Heart and they would always have this track too. It's a great song, great melody and vocal, and the late Gary Richrath even put some cool guitar work in there too, with a very Rockman sounding tone. I tried my best to mimic how he would play it all live. Hope you enjoy!
I use a Charvel DK24 (it's purple) into a Boss Me50 into a Palmer Pdi-09 into a Focusrite Scarlett into my computer running Logic Pro X.

The stuff I love about Gary Richrath guitar licks and solos. It's not all that flashy. He could bring a simple guitar chords or solos and make into an iconic riff. That's how talented he was.

funny, I saw the same adverts on TV back then, and i often stayed up late just to hear these great song chorus. Especially Broken Wings always sounded so good to me.

To me the original recording always sounded like they used a Rockman headphone amp to record the guitar parts. REO also did a song for The Goonies soundtrack which is also great and that definitely sounds like a Rockman both for the electric and acoustic parts. That little box of plastic and solid state circuitry was everywhere in the 80s.

Yeah, essentially just an inverted E5. Actually playing the 9th of the G and open B and high E.

Hey Ben I went out a bought a boss ME 90 multi effects pedal. How do u have the compression and distortion set for this song. Love the sound and trying to duplicate it.
Compression parameters on the Me50 are just Sustain and Level and I set them around 12 o'clock. For this, I it's the Blues Driver type overdrive, with probably gain set at 75% percent. EQ to taste really.
