Madonna - Live to Tell (Guitar Cover)

- Patrick Leonard has an interesting story about this song, and he comes across as real cool cat. Fantastic writer, arranger, composer and producer who did fantastic work with Madonna. Fair play to Madonna too as, apparently, the final vocal is from her first take on the demo. There's some cool guitar work in this song, from Bruce Gaitsch (multitracks are available online), so I thought I would try and highlight it, along with putting in some Landau/Huff type work and tones too. I use a Jackson DK2 into a Boss Me50 (where I get my tone) into a Boss DC-2w (for my Dimension C Chorus tone) into a Palmer Pdi-09 (which simulated a mic'd up cab) into a Focusrite Scarlett into my computer running Logic Pro X (where I add a little EQ and Reverb and for the WDW setup some micro pitch and stereo delays).

Fantastic. Growing up in the 80s I’m a big fan of Madonna’s output in that era, arguably this is her best ballad.
The Producer of this album is one of the very best in the business….great articulated parts Ben….you and I really have the same taste in music…

nowadays songs are played way too basic or too complicated ...back in the 80s,starting from the new wave,to new romantic ,to pop ,musicians really showed how it s like ,to try different things on a guitar than only chords,arpeggio and solos...the edge is emblematic on this

I came here for the Def Leppard and now I'm hooked on this. As a child of the 80s you really made this faithful to the spirit of the song. Clean without being like an ice-pick and very nuanced playing that is 100% in line with the dynamics of the song. If I was going to hear this song live this is how I would want it to sound.

This is one of my favorite Madonna songs. I'm a hard rock/metal guy but I like some variety and this song has always been very relaxing for me. Nice to hear it with some tasteful guitar added to it!

Once again you totally nailed the huff/landau clean tone on this song. I’ve always loved this song but I think I love your version more since it features more of that lush clean tone that I’m addicted to. And I also love the short solo you added to the song. Very tasteful and melodic to my ears. Another 10/10 in my book.
When I got my first hi-fi with CD Player (A Philips - still remember going to a local electrical store, seeing another identical model minus the CD player that I was going to buy and then noticed that the CD version was only about £50 more) in 1987, it was a few months before I got any CDs. So I got my mum to go and pick one up for me. Can't remember what my first choice was but she couldn't find it so I got Madonna True Blue instead. Despite not being a fan, I did give it a good play. Think CD #2 was U2 Joshua Tree. #3 was probably Hysteria. #4 may have been Vixen's Rev It Up. Good memories.
