    I was listening through headphones and heard the clear, yet subtle difference between the two. I'm so happy to have found this video, I was wondering about the real difference between them because on the website it's just a bunch of words and numbers that don't really mean a whole lot. But this was a really helpful video! Thanks for making it :)

    only considerable notice for me was the song test, which the HD obviously won but as far as recording guitar they both sound very similar IMO. I'm gonna stick with my first iRig since the price is considerably higher for the HD.

    Why is the polarity for one of the two stereo channels reversed in the iRig song examples (Round 3 and 4) but not in the iRigHD ones? There also seems to be more reverb on the HD example for round 4.

      He did do a clean test, it seems the hd is more complex and does change the sound from guitar analogue to digital, then it is processed digitally by amplitube then it is converted to analogue. This process changes the sound. It also has a pre amp that increases the sound.
      It does sound better, but that is because people like how it changes the sound. But once you start adding pedals to the sound... you would want a non altered sound. But the digital HD may have less noise and hiss but at what price.

      Using Sennheiser professional headphones here and there's no real difference. None that we should count regarding the price range of the products.

    • @jonlindsey4114
      @jonlindsey4114 9 лет назад

      Silvio Pereira hhhmm.. Im surprised you don't hear any difference. Anyway I actually have the irig ( not hd ) and I ended up getting the Apogee Jam 96k over both the Irig and Irig HD, over the HD because it IRig HD does 24bit 48hk and the Apogee does 24bit 96k.
      But aside from sound quality there are other reasons I upgraded from the original Irig,
      The main reason for me is that when Id lay down tracks in either GarageBand, Auria or the 8 track in Amplitube, I would get bleeding from other tracks when I recorded using headphones connected to the irig. It wasnt as bad when I used the headphone output using an 8' cable with 1/4' outputs ran into a mixer, but I didnt want to always need to be plugged up to a mixer. It was even worse using the Iphone version. The bottom line is the shielding in the irig is crappy. If you thinking about getting it I recommend you Google Irig and bleeding. If its dont bother you hell, you can buy mine used, lol. But seriously, sometimes you end up spending more money trying to go the cheaper way. IMO the irig is suited for for jamming vs multitrack recording on an Ipad.

  • @sethdusith6093
    @sethdusith6093 Год назад

    For those who cannot hear, the irig HD has a lot less noise. The irig has a very noisy signal, which makes a clean recording almost impossible to acheive, especially when using higher gain amps.

  • @rifqiaufan3994

    the winner is..... iRig... for the price :P

    • @jonlindsey4114
      @jonlindsey4114 9 лет назад

      you might want to reconsider if you plan on doing any recording, especially over dubbing, I have the Irig and when I record using headphone I get bleed from other tracks when I recording guitar tracks, not so much when I run the headphone output into a mixer, plus I get more pops and clicks.

    • @ballsackistan
      @ballsackistan 9 лет назад

      Jon Lindsey maybe because iRig thinks the microphone on your headphones is the input device?

    • @jonlindsey4114
      @jonlindsey4114 9 лет назад +1

      ballsackistan
      I think its more of a shielding issue between the actual cables in the irig. IMO the digital input is the way to go, but I ended up getting the Apogee Jam 96k over the Irig HD, it was worth another $30 to have the option to record at 24bit 96k over 24bit 48k

    BTW
    Round 1 ( clean ) IMO iRig souds better
    ..
    Round 4 - I can hear echo/reverb in iRig HD part ... and no echo/reverb iRig
    Why HD require echo to be more attractive ? :)
    Overall Result: I agree ... "the winner is..... iRig" ... IMO not only for the price :)

    To my ears, a very subtle difference in favour of the HD, however, the placebo created based on my expectation of the HD being better is probably influencing that decision too (also trying to look past the added reverb that obviously makes it sound nicer). Not worth the extra money imo and if you're gonna record seriously, better to just save up and buy real recording gear if you can afford it/wait long enough. Great practice and writing tool though!

    I was sceptical during the first tests, actually thought the original sounded better sometimes.
    However during the "nice song" test it became clear that the original was really flat and lacked detail compared to the HD version. Also sounded like the original actually clipped some sounds. (Was it just me?)

    Excellent comparison video. Well done. I haven't seen anyone discuss is Amplitube's noise gate pedal, which unless I'm doing someting wong, sounds horrible. Even at the lowest setting, when enabled, it immediately cuts off a huge part of the top end, making it completely unusable. Ampkit has two noise gates, both of which are far superior. I love the Fender amps in Amplitube, but if I use any gain, the noise becomes a show stopper. I'm not ready to buy the iRig HD since I just bought the original iRig. I want to get more use out of it first. Any advice on Amplitube's noise gate? Is there a better one in the shop I haven't seen?

  • @Farfeincouger

    Imo, as long as there is full latency/true bypass the difference in SQ is negligible at best (HD sounds slightly brighter overall), but more importantly what is the noise floor difference between the two? I have the standard iRig adapter and it gets noisy in high gain, does the HD remedy this at all and is it worth a whopping extra $80???

    Hey, Can I use iRig, not iRig HD with macbook? thx a lot

      I heard that if you have an early 2012 macbook or earlier you can use the irig... anything newer you need the HD.

    the difference is amazing.
    How can I record the sound from the ios device on my computer with the HD version? I have the normal irig, going out on the headphoneout with a 3.5mm cable in to my interface using a3.5 to 6.5mm jack. Is it the same way on the hd version?
    I appreciate if someone could answer. thanks :)

      Hey Jun Naef - You could theoretically do the same kind of thing using the HD by attaching your 3.5 > 6.5 jack to your iDevice's headphone socket?

      @BlubbCover 10 лет назад

      TheGaragebandGuide K thanks but is that the best way to record your ios? I thought now there would be a more "safer" way to record.

      You could use an iOS recording app (like Garageband iOS) to record your sounds?

    • @BlubbCover
      @BlubbCover 10 лет назад

      I could. but I like to record it directly on my computer and mix it afterwards. The ios recordingsystem isn't really my thing :P

    The presenter asks 'what do you think' at the end of this video. Well, to be honest listening to this video through my macbook pro the iRig actually sounded better in the categories. HD didn't sound any better. What I really hate about this is that there is always a 'new version' that you 'must have' by the time you've learned to use the one you have! I hate consumer crapitalism. Think I'll just play my acoustic and fuck all this electric gadget fetishism.

      Deschutes Maple iRig HD or HD 2 with the new lightning to USB 3 adapter is all you need. Studio quality response for recording, you can send the signal to an amp and use it as a real effects processor for live shows with, you can use it as a practice amp anywhere, you can hook up other devices like keyboards through it lol the iRig HD 2 is $100. It’s super cheap and really well done modulation that lets you record anything instantly. That’s not a fetish lol that’s called being an efficient musician

      Deschutes Maple this wasn’t necessarily a good demonstration of it but don’t bother with the iRig or iRig HD. The HD2 will still be relevant for a long time and the effects interface aspect makes it worth the $100 alone

    yes irig HD sounds more realistic, but the price is twice. so price\performance irig won! and for quality irig HD won! the diference is in your pocket

    Only difference is the volume irig hd set upper than irig standard version.. thanks for this video, it made know the "differences".. the noise that someone note in irig standard is the pickup noise, strangely disappeared in hd version.. :)

    • @TheGaragebandGuide
      @TheGaragebandGuide  10 лет назад

      There's a little bit of reverb on the HD during the Nasty Song test that makes it a little harder to make out the differences. My bad.
      Lots more background noise present in regular iRig recordings for sure, well noticed Enzo Di Michele

      agreed, I had the irig and got some noisy recordings, i was going to get the Irig HD but ended up getting the Apogge Jam 96k, best $130 bucks spent on an Ipad interface

      +Jon Lindsey anything above 44.1 / 16 is useless... cd standard covers the full hearing range and above. you only need those specs if you use it in the afterwork process, which you probably don't, considering you said you use it with an iPad. this way you only end up with taking up more memory when recording. I'm sorry dude you fell for the numbers, and it was 30 wasted bucks

      lol.... cd standard??????? who burns cd's these days ??? I can completely understand if its useless for you, but you arent qualified to tell me what my needs are considering you have no idea what they are, yes i use it with an Ipad as well as with my MacBook Pro , I also use an Apogee duet , thanks anyways, , btw if you think 16 bit sounds as good as 24 bit you have terrible ears .... people who think they know it all usually have a lot to learn... just saying.
