  • This is Donegal. The final stop in our Ireland campervan adventure, as we drive our home north along the Wild Atlantic Way.
In this video we take you around Donegal’s towering cliff landscape, to wild, untamed beaches, we climb the famous mount errigal, while exploring some of Ireland’s most beautiful national parks and forests. Oh, and we also spend the night by a waterfall.
If you’re new round here I’m Jack, this is Jo. And that’s our scruffy hitchiker Frank. We have spent the past two years travelling to wild corners of the UK and Europe in this - our tiny home on wheels
This is part five of our Wild Atlantic Way adventure in Ireland. Contents and locations we visit are below:
    00:00: Intro:
00:45: Slieve League Cliffs and hike:
    04:30 Driving Donegal roads
    08:00 Marghera Beach
09:59 Assaranca Waterfall - we parked by a waterfall!
    13:00 Glenveagh National Park
    16:54 Mount Errigal
    20:30 White Shore beach
    21:50 Ards Forest Park
    23:20 Grianan of Aileach
25:00 (not) the end of the WIld Atlantic Way

Hi Guys, the full hike at Sliabh Liag is a looped hike, so worth it, it drops you back down towards the Rusty Mackrel Pub, a cracking spot for grub and atmosphere, well worth it. Ards Forest Park is pure magic, almost tropical, also well worth the effort, very close to Horn head which is superb, isolated and unspoiled!

Not a baaaaaaaaad way to finalise your Wild Atlantic Way adventure! Drone shots were on point as was Jo's hilarious comments our favourite being "never do anything that causes you excess stress...." 🤣

You make my home county look cool! It's one place you know will never become over commercialised because of the incessant inclement weather. The Wild Atlantic Way was a great idea to bring more people into the county. Tell you friends!

Haha, your home county is cool!! Also, we're currently sweltering in Italy, we'd happily take incessant inclement weather right now! 😅

You missed some spectacular waterfalls in the Dartry Mountains on the Sligo/Leitrim border. Glencar and Sruth in Aghaidh an Ard (the Devil’s Chimney). On the other side of the mountains you walked under (Benbulben). The second one is 150m high.

Good suggestions! There's so much more we would have loved to have done along the route that we just couldn't cram in! I don't think the Devil's Chimney was flowing when we were there (we had a spell of warm weather!) But, this just gives us another reason to come back to Ireland and do it all again!

Your videos were wonderful! We are thinking of using a camper van, how is it driving the narrow roads?

    • @TheseWildJourneys
      @TheseWildJourneys  3 месяца назад

Thank you! Good question, the roads in Ireland weren't too bad for the size of the van, but I remember there were a lot of pot holes 😂 if you've ever driven down a country road in the UK, then you should be fine!

Hey guys, we're loving your Ireland series! We hope to go soon. Frank is so cute I must say, is he a Border Cross, or pure breed? He's got Dapple in him hasn't he? We miss our Border Ginge 😢😢

Thanks for watching! Frank is 3/4 border, with a bit of Norfolk Terrier in him. So we think that's where the dappled colour came from! Bless Ginge, they make great dog companions ♥️

We did 4 weeks on the Wild Atlantic Way in August / Early September but did it the wrong way round. Culdaff beach was our first overnight stop. It's a great spot to start or finish.

Haha! Who knows which is the right or wrong way. Either way, nice place to stop/finish the roadtrip!
Don't suppose you know where the official start/finish is in the north? Ha! 😅

@@TheseWildJourneys I think I saw the first route signs soon after I crossed the border from Northern Ireland at Muff and the first discovery point was Magilligan Point View, just north of Moville.

@@ianmcevoy7106 Muff! We thought it might have been there. We drove back down past it on the way home. So we did kinda complete it 😅!

The Donegal midgie is as bad as the highland midgies.
