You wondered if the first beach was privately owned. In Ireland the ownership of beaches is outlawed. They all remain in state ownership and must be freely available to all citizens.

Beautiful part of Ireland. My wife and I rented a guest house for three weeks in Carna in June and did day trips and hikes. People send their children to schools there in the summer to learn the Irish language and culture.

Its not common land as such in the sense of being public, but they are large areas owned by a group of farmers these are called commonages only separated by barbed wire or electric fence ,so all the land looks like one commonage. You might have noticed how the sheeps fleeces are dyed this is so an individual farmer can distinguish his sheep from other farmers sheep that graze the same commonage.

Ah, very interesting! They have a (maybe) similar set-up on the Outer Hebrides, too. Either way, it was very good of the farmers to let people use the land 👌!

@@TheseWildJourneys Never Been to the hebrides ,but what i can see in the videos it looks very like the west of ireland especially around west galway, west mayo and west donegal. Small holdings near the coast and vast areas of open peatland inland .

Hey! I can't find it on Park4Night (a camp spot app) anymore - from memory it was a bout 20 minutes south of Clifden, along the coast. Sorry I can't be of more help!
