The overpricing is not the only problem. Another problem with the Ghanaian trader is their attitude. You will go to a Ghanaian shop to buy something; if he doesn't have it, he will tell you he doesn't have it, and that's it. Meanwhile, the Nigerian trader will tell you to wait while he looks for that thing for you. The Ghanaian will say to you, "I don't have change," but the Nigerian will look for the change just to sell you the item.
They are telling market fairytales. Yes, Ghana has ridiculously overpriced import fees. However, Nigerians will pay a minimum of 5 times in forced bribes to bring those goods from Nigeria into Accra. The number of payments they will make to transport their goods from Nigeria, via Benin, Togo, and then through Ghana's checkpoints will eat into their profit. The truth of the matter is that Nigerians offer better, friendlier, transparent, and more professional customer service!!! ✌🏾
They haven't seen anything yet. Me sef I go continue buying from the Nigerians. What kind of wickedness is this as Ghanaian market women constantly overprice goods.
This is the Nigerian business model: The Nigerian will buy wholesale, add a little margin, and sell at a price that is lower than the retail price. The motivation is not the profit margin but the volume of sales which eventually delivers the cash into your pocket. There is another ingenious side of it. A Nigerian can sell a product at a loss if he can utilise the cash collected to buy another type of product which can be sold at a higher profit to cover for the loss. My mum was a petty trader in Lagos and l learnt a lot under her.
Yes I agree with that...sometimes they sell at a loss to achieve credibility, then once the trust is there, they start making profit off you. Business 101
I can now formally state here today that Nigeria is Africa's most hospitable nation. In Nigeria, it is absolutely impossible to see market women or traders congregating in this manner to voice their grievances about other nationals. No time for this. Absolutely no time because when it comes to business, time is money. Others are making money and cashing out in the same market while they are there complaining in front of the camera. We believe the sky is big enough for anyone to explore.
Wait till they start using your young family members for money rituals, there are laws governing trading in Ghana, these Nigerians are selling tramadol inside of their goods, e.g. beans, groundnuts and so on. They are selling the illicit drugs to our young ones ,they will use what they selling as decoys ,hiding the tramadol inside their beans, groundnuts. And when they finish selling their illicit drugs, the beans or groundnuts will then be sold cheaply, turning our younger generations into junkies/ drug addicts, you go on supporting this criminality, in no time you will suffer the consequences.
The women don't have a case. You will complain about hardship in Ghana under Nana Addo's government and do same under Mahama's. They're part of Ghana's problems. A Ghanaian selling to a fellow Ghanaian at exorbitant prices is wickedness. Allow the Nigerians to function. This phenomena is in every country.

I'm originally of Nigerian descent. This is an insightful video on Ghanaian market conditions. The authorities in Ghana MUST step right in ASAP and ensure that there is a win-win situation for everybody and that Ghanaian women traders are NOT being undercut while ensuring that these Ghanaian traders also do NOT rip-off Ghanaian citizens and other foreign residents by charging very high prices for the goods and other commodities being sold. Everyone is interested in moderate prices of food items worldwide due to global hyperinflation caused by the Russian-Ukraine War and the devastating effects of Covid-19 lock downs. Fortunately, Ghana's President John Mahama who has lived in the past in Offa, Nigeria and was conferred with a chieftaincy title there by the Oba (King) of Offa, has a step-mother who is originally of Yoruba descent from that same town of Offa in Kwara State, Nigeria, so, I'm very hopeful that he'll step right in and ensure that this situation is resolved for the benefit of all Ghanaians. I am originally from Nigeria, but I have resided in Kumasi prior to moving to the UK. I believe that there are underlying issues within Ghana that contribute to conflict, yet many seem to perceive other countries as the source of these problems.
I remember before the Nigerian banks came into the market, most Ghanaian banks were giving us hell. If not for the Nigerian banks that saved us hmmmmmm.
Ghanaian sellers are sometimes wicked with prices, especially when you speak English. I went to buy salmon fish and the seller told me one is 30ghc, I was like how, I asked her is it the full or half, she replied the half, I wanted to leave, she then told me she has the one of 15ghc and 20ghc, I told her to give me the one of 15ghc, she took it from the same 30ghc own. Just because I was using English to communicate with her, she think say I no get sense.
The business sense solution is simple. Ghanaian women should by all the products from the Nigerians at that prices which Nigerians are selling it, and sell a little more with a little profit.
That logic is flawed. If you soak up the supply just to increase its price as usual your goods will still have long shelf life. While the market product you thought you'd soaked up gets restocked. And if you don't buy up the entire product in the market at that point, your customers will simply buy from them since it's cheaper.
Most Ghanaian traders are Greed where they want to make a big profit from a product but the Nigerian traders are business savvy where they sell large quantities with marginal profit.

The Nigerian traders in Ghana markets are mainly Igbos. Your market women are up against some of the best when it comes to trading worldwide. That's not true. Igbo women don't do much trading like the yoruba women. This also happens in Nigeria, where some people sell at relatively high price while others sale cheap for same products and quality. Your guess is as good as mine who will sell more!
Most Ghanaian traders overprice even locally produced goods just because they want to make supernormal profits at the expense of other Ghanaians. In a fair market there is competition. They should learn that and reasonably price their goods else the foreigners will take over
Good Scanty. The women should take advantage of the stronger cedis to become wholesalers themselves. Travel to Nigeria get the products and sell at par or lower than the Nigerians. Simple rather than wiping up cheap sentiments.
Two days ago, a Ghanaian trader tried to sell me insect repellent for 10 Cedis. His Nigerian counterpart was selling for 7 Cedis. Same product, same street, different prices.

However, when Ghanaian buyers purchase the rice for resale, they often seek to realize profits exceeding 100%. This tendency reflects a lack of understanding of the dynamics of retail business, as it appears driven by excessive greed.
Not correct about the exchange rate. Money is about value. So it's the same way a Nigerian sees 10 thousand naira that a Ghanaian would see its equivalence in Ghana.
Be speaking English... My broda if u study our market u will realize that ghanaians are da reasons for inflating prices... From the drivers to traders... all dem be wicked
They are lazy and want to get rich scamming their own people by over pricing products at a ridiculous level. . Then you wonder why everything is so expensive in Ghana?
Skanty You have to understand that the market women that's what the depend on oo That's their only job but as a Nigerian when he goes back to his country he has about thousands of naira on just 100 cedis profit
Wrong impression, did you mean a buyer must go in for a higher price than a cheaper price when the product has the same quality. This is hatred and nothing more.
First of all Nigerian Business ethics are better than my country Ghana Business ethics, so they will always make money in the market than us. But Its a big case in our market but all these I blame our trade and industry ministry for lack of price control in our system. But honestly our Ghanaian local market women are the contributing factors of the hardship the citizens complain of hardship because they choose to sell their product whatever price they choose, and they add high prices, making it difficult for us. But government should control this pricing in our local market, it can solve so many hardship issues in our system.
I use to think guy is smart.. I just realize that wisdom is chasing him but he's too fast. Come to Nigeria and see how we do business.. Igboman will use 100Naira to sell a product of 5000naira cos he believe that with that he sales more thereby making more gain.. Its the way we so business.

Help me tell them
I think they need better teacher.
They need to go to Nigeria they will understand better
Plantain and cassava koraa is expensive in Ghana Aden??
There must be restrictions on some of the imported goods to revive our local goods.
Be speaking English... My broda if u study our market u will realize that ghanaians are da reasons for inflating prices... From the drivers to traders... all dem be wicked
You are lazy. Then the greed with you Ghanaians is too much
@2LETLIVE the same way you are!!!
You can go to any country and change their way of selling.
What is stopping the Ghanaian women to go to Nigeria and also get them at wholesale prices? Make them komot for there
@dannygh, they are afraid of going to Nigeria because their media and and some of their leaders have demonize Nigeria to them.
They are lazy and want to get rich scamming their own people by over pricing products at a ridiculous level. . Then you wonder why everything is so expensive in Ghana?
They do go to Nigeria to buy we see many Ghanaians in Lagos buying and selling in higher prices to Ghanaians
That’s where they get their stuffs from though.
Ghana farm is low in farm production that's reason why ghanaians come over to Nigeria to buy goods and resale to they're people cause price 👌👌👌🇳🇬
Skanty
You have to understand that the market women that's what the depend on oo
That's their only job but as a Nigerian when he goes back to his country he has about thousands of naira on just 100 cedis profit
Wrong impression, did you mean a buyer must go in for a higher price than a cheaper price when the product has the same quality. This is hatred and nothing more.
Please the Kss merch I’m not getting long sleeves oo
Wanna traders are wicked in pricing. They deserve what they are getting from the Nigerians.
The Yoruba man can sell a phone for 95 that a Ghana man is selling for 100 😂
I am waiting for Nigeria must return so that Ghanaians in Nigeria can Go too. There is no rule that you cannot sell as whole sale in retail.
I use to think guy is smart.. I just realize that wisdom is chasing him but he's too fast. Come to Nigeria and see how we do business.. Igboman will use 100Naira to sell a product of 5000naira cos he believe that with that he sales more thereby making more gain.. Its the way we so business.
The guy really dey far from wisdom
May be the Ghanaian market women should start travelling to Nigeria to buy goods.
Ghanaians, we must ask why The UK excused itself out of the EU and advise ourself similarly!!
If they can bring goods here. You too go there and bring the goods some and sell simple.
