Georgia Scorcher Review, Six Flags Over Georgia B&M Stand-Up Coaster | The Last Stand-Up?

- Georgia Scorcher is the Bolliger & Mabillard stand-up coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia. This was B&M's final stand-up coaster, but they designed it much differently relying on twists and turns over strong positive Gs. Could this be the last stand-up coaster ever built?

Was just talking the other day about how I believe it's only a matter of time before stand-up coasters make a resurgence utilizing forces more suited to the riding position. They get negativity largely due to positive Gs and the restraints which could be improved using the vests, only time I'd advocate B&M vests.
I wouldn't mind seeing more.
nice prediction considering the seaworld surf coaster
In this video, Canobie Coaster would say:
Both this coaster and Goliath, which travels directly over Georgia Scorcher, make quite the first impression. And that's especially the case now that Georgia Scorcher has been repainted to a cherry red color. Before that, the ride's yellow track was looking...
faded.
If I ask you about the history of the 1990s Bolliger & Mabillard stand-up coasters and how they built Georgia Scorcher at Six Flags Over Georgia, Canobie Coaster would say:
Bolliger & Mabillard's three roller coasters were all stand-up coasters that were modest in size, they just consisted of a twisting drop, a vertical loop, turns, helixes and a corkscrew. Those were Iron Wolf at Six Flags Great America in 1990, Vortex at California's Great America in 1991, and Vortex at Carowinds in 1992. But in the mid-1990s, B&M built a trio of large, record-breaking stand-up coasters. The first would be Mantis at Cedar Point in 1996, the second would be Chang at Kentucky Kingdom, which now runs as Green Lantern at Six Flags Great Adventure, and the third would be Riddler's Revenge at Six Flags Magic Mountain in 1998. Each one was bigger and more forceful than the last one. But Six Flags Over Georgia and B&M did a contrarian layout in 1999 with Georgia Scorcher. This stand-up would stand just 107 feet or 33 meters tall and feature just two inversions. Was Six Flags being cheap or did B&M learn something? Just look at those six stand-ups in terms of smoothness...
A) The first three stand-ups (Iron Wolf, Vortex and Vortex) were very smooth like the other B&M models.
B) The first three stand-ups (Iron Wolf, Vortex and Vortex) were quite smooth, a tad less than the other B&M coasters.
C) The first three stand-ups (Iron Wolf, Vortex and Vortex) weren't as smooth as B&M's other coasters.

Although stand ups might not be the most comfortable types of coasters. This is a fun one for its small size. I don't know what it is but I hear a lot of people love on this one so much and say it'll even be worse as a floorless which is unheard of. Maybe the B&M surf will fix the uncomfortable standing position probably but I'm surprised this one gets as much love as it does.
I like how different they are.
I didn’t like this one the first few times I rode it, but after I got used to the seat it became one of my favorite coasters in the park. It’s smooth, quick, and fast.
The only two stand up B&M roller coasters I’ve ridden are Chang (when it was at my home park Kentucky Kingdom) and Georgia Scorcher. Chang is my favorite but Georgia Scorcher is pretty solid for what it is. Nice review!
I prefer the power of Green Lantern myself.
I believe the the Surf Coaster might bring back the B&M stand up to a Mimi-resurgence. If the one at SWO is successful, I could see small to mid-sized parks seeing it as a unique and relatively cost effective coaster.
We'll see what the reception to it is.
Of all seven Bolliger & Mabillard stand up coasters, including the converted ones, what do you think about Georgia Scorcher at Six Flags Over Georgia and Apocalypse at Six Flags America?
Apocalypse was rough. Georgia Scorcher is smooth and fun.
This was the second ever inverting coaster I rode in my life, right after Mindbender. This coaster was the perfect introduction to the forces you experience on the larger coasters out there. If you have a child, or rollercoaster hesitant friend, this is an amazing intermediate ride to get them on. My friends and I like to meme and call it Georgia Torture, but my restraints were set correctly and I never had any (lower) head banging on the bicycle seat. I highly recommend it for a smooth and unique experience
These rides come down to where you put the restraint.
I wish riddlers revenge would be converted… that layout is incredible, and forceful AF.
It’ll never happen, with Scream being at the same park… but I imagine it being on equal footing as Kumba and Kahn TBH.
Shit, if they put a normal sit down train on there I think it’s popularity would skyrocket
I really like Riddler as is.
@@CanobieCoaster yeah I know you’re a diehard standup fan. I’m fine with them, but I can’t think of one I’d prefer to stay a standup. I do miss those janky ass Togo stand ups at the old paramount parks. Shockwave had the wackiest airtime and laterals my body has ever experienced while standing lol
Using your riding strats, I was able to enjoy Georgia Scorcher. The ride was also quite good. I prefer this over Green Lantern.
Glad it helped!
This is my only stand up coaster, but it ranks #3 in the park for me
Nice!
I went in December for holiday at the park, only really going for rides on Twisted cyclone, Batman, and Goliath. I was only getting the rest of the rides for credits. This turned out to be my 2nd favorite coaster of the trip. In the back row you’re getting pulled through every valley and it feels absolutely insane. Felt like a stand up Kumba honestly
Nice!
Although I’ve never been on Georgia Scorcher, I love stand ups especially Riddler at Magic Mountain. It is a shame these aren’t still made. They give some nice variety. I remember when stand ups came out and were such a novelty like Vortex at Great America which has been converted to a sit down.
I like them if I get the restraint in the right spot.
I would like that they would return building more B&M stand up coasters, and you?
I would.
I was pleasantly surprised by this ride, despite the below-the-belt discomfort. It seemed like the GP like this ride a lot too, it had crowds hanging around when it was down and once it was consistently running it started filling the station on a day when Goliath and Batman were walk-ons all day
It also helps it doesn't have the highest throughput due to the loading.
As a regular of SFOG, lemme say you couldn’t be more wrong. Scorcher regularly has the shortest line of any coaster at the park. People hate this ride lol. Even of the most crowded days this line never gets longer than 30 minutes
Ridden this ride a number to times this season and I really hope B&M helps Six Flags to convert this to a floorless coaster. The ride experience is awful right now. My ride today saw a lot of headbanging.
I hope it stays a stand-up myself.
Georgia Scorcher at Six Flags Over Georgia, what do you think about the ride, in terms of smoothness?
I find it smooth.
I will also say the stand-up coaster ride seat and restraints make this ride take FORVER to be properly loaded as well. Floorless trains would likely fix that problem.
I usually hit this later in the day when the line subsides.
In this video, Canobie Coaster said:
Both this coaster and Goliath, which travels directly over Georgia Scorcher, make quite the first impression. And that's especially the case now that Georgia Scorcher has been repainted to a cherry red color. Before that, the ride's yellow track was looking awfully faded. The photo of the ride with the yellow track, was the photo taken reflecting your 2013 rides? What do you think?
That yellow photo was from 2016.
in the back, i got suprisingly strong pops of airtime i was so confused!!
I didn't get that.
Great review. Georgia Scorcher was open a half hour before open today, in fact. I rode it 5x and could have easily ridden it 10x.
Nice!
Fair and accurate review, as always.
While I don't think Stand Up coasters will never reach again their popularity in the 80s and 90s, perhaps B&M can find a niche market to sell them from time to time.
Georgia Scorcher suggests already in 1999, B&M figured out how to make them smooth. Imagine what they can achieve now with better restraints and some new elements that would be more appropriate for a standing position. (Imagine a Stall on a Stand-Up!!)
I think if parks are paying a premium, they'd rather a faster loading and more comfortable model.
Did most people and enthusiasts like those two B&M stand up coasters, Vortex at Carowinds and Georgia Scorcher at Six Flags Over Georgia? What do you think?
How did they find the two, smooth or rough?
Most people prefer Georgia Scorcher. I enjoy both.
It has a vertical loop, a helix, a corkscrew and final turns like the first three B&M stand up coasters. The first one was... at... which opened in...
The second one was... at... which opened in...
The third one was... at... which opened in...
I was asking you the names, the parks, and the years.
See RCDB for that.
In the world, Six Flags Over Georgia and Six Flags America had a B&M stand up coaster. What were their names, their opening years, and what do you think about both the B&M stand up coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia and the B&M stand up coaster at Six Flags America?
Over Georgia's was a good ride unlike the other.
Of the Bolliger & Mabillard stand up coasters, of the ones built and opened in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, which one was considered the smoothest of them? What do you think?

D) 1996
E) 1997
F) 1998

On the large ones, the positive Gs shown through the floor and leg power aren't for everyone, but for you, do you like or do you love?
I like the forces of the large stand-ups.
Georgia Scorcher Probably Was An Example That B&M Was Improving On Their'e Stand Up Coaster Model Basically Making It Smoother Than Some Of The Other's
I'd Love To Know What Their'e Stand Up Seats Look Like In 2022 , Do They Have Vests , More Comfortable Seats. Who Knows 🤔
Kinda Sad No One Buys Them Any More , But There's Always The Possibility That Someone Might Buy A Stand Up :)
B&M still offers them.
Of the Bolliger & Mabillard stand up coasters built and opened in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, the 1999 one was considered the smoothest and most forgiving. Of the others, with your stand up method, which one was your favorite for the power, Canobie Coaster?
A) 1990
B) 1991
C) 1992
D) 1996
E) 1997
F) 1998

I loved how Green Lantern looked as Chang
It looked awesome.
What do you think about all seven B&M stand up coasters built and opened in the 1990s, in smoothness or roughness?
This is the smoothest one.
Why was Georgia Scorcher at Six Flags Over Georgia the smoothest B&M stand up despite the large ones being your favorites?
Probably because it is smaller in scale with good profiling.
Hi. My home park is Canada's Wonderland. We had a stand up coaster called Skyrider. Built by Togo. Opened in 1985-2014. I never rode it,. I like the look of this one. Neat.
I rode that one. The trick track was brutal. The other parts were fun.
I’m very interested to see how their updated model of this rides…I’m hopeful for the Surf Coaster model! 🌊
Hope it rides well!
This was the most painful coaster I've ridden, the bike seat was digging into me and my head was banging all over, plus towards the end of the ride it felt like someone was reaching into my calves and pulling on my vascular and muscular system
I have a video on B&M stand-ups how to set the restraints comfortably.
Facts
Which one was your favorite stand up flat ride in the world and which one your favorite stand up coaster?
Hurakan Condor and Riddler’s Revenge.
Georgia Scorcher seems widely well-liked for the reasons you describe. Did you know this coaster was rumored to be named "Jezebel" before it was announced? Scorcher is a better name.
I did not know that.
How many stand up coasters did Bolliger & Mabillard build?
See RCDB.
If you count Pipeline at SeaWorld Orlando, that's a B&M newer generation stand up coaster, but of the B&M older traditional stand up coasters, how many were there built in the world?
A) 5
B) 6
C) 7

The red looks so cool next to Goliath
Yes
With your technique and in an incorrect position, what do you think about those two Bolliger & Mabillard stand up coasters, Apocalypse at Six Flags America (before it was converted into Firebird) and Georgia Scorcher at Six Flags Over Georgia?
Georgia Scorcher is fine in any position. Apocalypse was bad in any position.
Was this your favorite stand up?
Riddler’s Revenge is.
Back when Scorcher opened, it had really good color scheme of yellow track with grey rails and purple supports. I believe it was repainted cheaply right around the time Goliath opened so it would look good for media photos. But yeah, it used to have the worst paint of any roller coaster.
The way it faded was ugly.
Well, Georgia Scorcher is no longer the last stand up, because 24 years after Georgia Scorcher opened, a new standup is being built at Seaworld!
Excited to see how Pipeline turns out.
I feel like the new surf coaster will feature modernized stand-up trains, in both comfort and efficiency. The layout will also probably be more inventive, featuring a larger variation of forces, without crushing your legs or, you know…
Hopefully!
“georgia scorcher at six flags over georgia” tongue twister
Yup!
I Actually Like This More Than PNE Coaster, Stand Ups Are Better Than Classic Wooden Coasters, The Only Stand Ups I Hate Are Togo Stand Ups.
PNE's Coaster has so much airtime it's basically a stand-up.
Georgia Scorcher has a modest layout with a vertical loop, a corkscrew, do you know the layout and is it more similar to the 1996, 1997, 1998 stand up coasters, or more similar to the 1990, 1991, 1992 stand up coasters?
It's similar to the older ones, just smoother.
I like Georgia Scorcher, but I prefer Mantis, Green Lantern, & Riddlers Revenge. And I liked Mantis more than Rougarou. I get why others don't like the powerful stand-ups, but like you, I know how to ride it, and I enjoy that feeling like my legs will explode. I'll still take the smaller Georgia Scorcher over nothing, and I definitely don't want it converted. (I actually don't want Vortex at Carowinds converted either).
I suspect I would've liked Mantis.
I was impressed with how well it rode. I was fearing it would be like Vortex, which is the only B&M I've ever had little desire to reride. The station and train(s) looked like crap when we were there (Oct '21)...that marketing/sponsored wrap on the train needs to go - it's trashy, and the trains need refurbishment - but the actual ride itself is pretty good. Operations could be a lot better, but unfortunately that's the curse of the stand-up. I think we rode all of the existing B&M stand-ups except Green Lantern last year, but I rode it as Chang back at Kentucky Kingdom years ago. I absolutely loved it back then...was even in my top 10. If it holds up like Scorcher, it'll probably still be my favorite. Otherwise, IDK. Riddler is nearly the same, just bigger, and it was fun, but IDK if I liked it as much as I remember liking Chang. I loved Iron Wolf, but Goliath was an upgrade, so no complaints there. I haven't gotten a chance to ride the converted versions yet. Anyway, aside from Vortex, I'd say all the remaining stand-ups are pretty good - that's likely why they still remain.
It's definitely the most comfortable stand-up.
B&M have new designed trains I saw....when will they start using those....turn mantis/rotorua. Back at cp to a stand up again
I'm not sure if they'd reconvert one.
@@CanobieCoaster yeah would be interesting....if they could combine to operate a floor less and a stand up and let people choose their experience. THAT would be brilliant
pipeline is the newest standup rollercoaster
It is now.
i went in december and they’re running 2 trains
Nice!
This really seems almost like a modern take on the CGA Vortex layout
I'd agree.
I rode Mantis, Green Lantern and Vortex at Carowinds
I missed Mantis.
wow
Fun
Red paint scheme is TOPS! Stand up coaster were the (flavor of the month) for a while. I joined ACE (American Coaster Enthusiasts) in the mid 80's. That was when there was a debate among "purist" of wood VS. steel as (one trick ponies) Stand Ups were the gimmick for a while. Suspended, Inverted. Floorless, Heartline (all flavor of the month) Six Flags Over Georgia IS a stand out as it AS the Original Six Flags Over Texas are NOT owned by 6 Flags parent co. Theses parks stand out on their own. St. Louis being its last but built differently. Penn Central owned that one.
The new paint was a major upgrade.
I find it funny that GS is 3 feet shorter than Incredible Hulk at IOA...like O_o
Didn't realize that!
@@CanobieCoaster Same, like Incredible Hulk is kind of short when you really think about it. Like a typical Vekoma SLC is 1 FOOT SHORTER. 😅
Green Lantern should be converted into a sitdown coaster if B&M is willing to make more
I like that one, but I know more would like it as a sit down or floorless.
Did you get to ride Pipeline the surf coaster?
Not yet.
If you sit in the back you get amazing floater on the first drop
I didn't get that sadly.
@@CanobieCoaster really?
That first drop makes it top three in the park for me
Oh, God - the kid at 2:07. 😖
Yeah that's going to hurt.
I love stand up coasters I was so sad when mantis got converterted
I never got to try Mantis.
I love stand up coasters unpopular opinion but better then twisted cyclone
Wow!
if a new ground up B&M standup ever gets announced, will you be disappointed or excited?
Depends what the outcome would be like for some people
I like them.
I really wish these had softer restraints
Me too.
do take a lot out of me, what does that mean?
Draining
Fast forwerd seaworld be like I WILL SAVE THE STAND UP COASTERS with pipeline
A surprising announcement.
Certainly better than the pain machine that was Iron Wolf at SFGA
It got pretty bad there at the end, but I still loved it. However, if it still existed in stand-up form, I doubt I'd still have that positive opinion.
Absolutely.
@@lightfantastik yeah, they made the right move converting it to floor-less
I never rode it as the original, but the conversion to floorless was horrible. It's my least favorite coaster ever. I have heard it was less terrible as a stand-up, but I have only ridden it as a terrible floorless.
Georgia Scorcher is a pretty short coaster
I was surprised to see it was 3000 ft long.
This was Actually One Of Worst Roller Coasters That I’ve Ridden The Bike Seat Seriously Hurt and it was Rough and Head banging
It was Painful
I think I Will Review This Painful Thing
End of Ride It Hurt Made Me Oof
Check out my video how to ride these comfortably.
I HATE this ride, needs to become a floorless.
I like stand-ups myself.
They need to take this shitty ass ride out the park or change the trains.
I enjoy it.
@@CanobieCoaster SFOG is my homepark. Scorcher is ok at best. I dont think ive rode it since they changed the color of the track.
