For those of you didn't see the first Undertale Newsletter, Itoki Hana was one of the first Japanese fans to send letters to Toby Fox when the game was still relatively new. After a few messages and a package later, the two met and have since collaborated together to make several songs, this being one of them. Kinda comes full circle.
It took me like 50 watches to realize that after the glitches start, she realizes she probably only has one more chance, and so she's rushing the hero through the game, so she can get to the confession in the ending faster She goes to his house in the intro, instead of waiting for him to come out to hers She pulls him through the town She yanks him up the hill...knowing every step in advance augh
@@NiennaFan1 She knows there's not much time left, until the internal battery runs dry, and then they all fade away. She's rushing to the end because she knows she doesn't have much time left either way.
I think there's something implied that most younger gamers don't know about: In older cartridge games, save files were stored in RAM that needed a steady flow of electricity. These games had a battery inside the cartridge to keep the memory running. These batteries last a long time, but not forever. Eventually, the battery will run out of power. When this happens, the cartridge will lose it's ability to hold save data.
As a "younger viewer" I find this interesting but also a bit sad that all the game will forget if you forget about it. I assume that it's no longer like this, so that's good.
@@Dragon_640 Starting with the Game Boy Advance, cartridges didn't need a battery to save data. Apparently Game Boy games had shorter life on thier batteries compared to other systems, while the memory circuit on some NES games for example, were arguably over designed to potentially hold saves for around 70 years.
A world that eventually will be erased, when its definitely forgotten, like the world a person has made in his head, that world is never dead until you forget it exists Yep, definitely sounds sad
One of the saddest parts of this story is that the "battery runs dry", just as the lyrics say, and if you know anything about GameBoy era games, you'd know the game cartridges contain their own batteries to hold save data, and if they die, they lose their save data- but more importantly the ability to save ever again after that without replacing it. This is why the save files reset in the end, and why it mattered so much for her to admit her feelings now. She would never get the chance to do so again. And even if she regained sentience in another file, it would all be deleted the very next day.
I feel terrible. Something strange happens whenever I listen to this masterpiece. All my internals chrun begging me to cry and my head feels pressurised. But no tears fall through - It's truly a lovely song, i want to cry all day thinking about it, but somehow I am just unable to. I haven't felt this emotional in a very very long time. I wish I never grow old of this piece and I truly desire to cherish other somgs by this team.
@@CURSE_OF_RAH Well, to replace the battery, you'd need to take it out... so the power it provides that keeps the save file stored wouldn't be there anymore..
I was about to comment on this somewhere else but I feel like here my comment would be fitter. With so much compassion for video games, it's not surprising that Undertale came out like it did.
Your comment almost made me cry again because of all the nostalgia brought back to me. When the game was there when nobody else was to fill the empty times. Thank you!
the change between "shall i say my line" to "shall i change my line" and finalty to finally, this is so well written. feels like a piece that you can hold close to yourself and appreciate.
So, I've watched this a couple times now, and first off, great song, it's been stuck in my head since i first played it. But also, i realized that there's actually a pretty deep story for those who couldn't catch on to it, so i thought i'd get into detail: At the very start, we see that the player made it to the end of the game and triggered the end cutscene dialogue. The pink haired girl tells him that "there's something she should say" but doesn't find the courage to say it. At 0:32 it might be tempting to think that what were seeing is a flashback of their journey, but I think what really happened is the player reset the game in slight disappointment that the pink haired girl didn't say what she wanted to, now trying to reach the end again in a strange hope that she'll somehow be able to find confidence and change her dialogue. In the following scenes, we can see that the player asks her to come on a journey with him, and in excitement of her saying yes, he drags her across town and helps her on their way. The girl says something easy to brush off at 1:07, stating that the player named her after "the one he loves," or more specifically, his real life crush. From here we can assume that when the player first started the game, he had the option to name the girl whatever he wanted to, and that's when he chose the name of his crush. The next scenes show more instances where we see the girl is shy and unsure, saying in a conversation that presumably started before the cut that she isn't able to swim, and she also says she's no good at dancing when the player asks her. Then at 1:43, the player reaches the end cutscene for the second time. When the song says "pray this time my heart will shine on through," it becomes evident that in the girls inner thoughts, she, too wants to gain the confidence to say what she wants, she even stutters twice if you pay attention to the text box, which we don't see in the original cutscene. But in the end, she hesitates and can't get it out. At this point, the player gives up and sets the game down, and the girl instantly regrets having not said anything earlier. She tries to stop him from leaving at 2:07, but she's unable to, and can't do anything about it. Years later, the player finds the game in his old stuff and decides to play one more time. But as you've probably read in someone else's comment, old games like this one used to run on a certain battery that lasted a long time, but when depleted can't hold save data anymore, purging the game's world forever. The girl sees the player again, but realizes that the game is breaking and that there isn't much time left. But now, with one more chance, she rushes the player to the end of the game to trigger the cutscene for the third and final time. The girl goes to HIS house instead of waiting for him to go to hers, drags HIM through town, and helps HIM on the journey. She even finds the courage to both swim and dance with him where she couldn't before. And when they reach the end, for the third and final time, she bares it all and cries and shows the truth, and finally, says- finally- "I love you."
"When you made my name /the same just as / the one you love /then I knew" Man, this is such a line. It hit me really hard. When it was common for RPGs to let you name the characters, I'm sure many of us used to name the characters after our friends when we were younger, like, now it's really uncommon cause of VA, but now even when playing those games we let the default names; but those times when you just imagine you and your friends and crush as the videogame characters in games like Earthbound or the early Final Fantasy were just really magical.
"even if the only things you say are yes or no, i see blue skies" This line is also pretty good, in games usually your decisions and things you can say are usually really limited and depend on what the creator(s) decide, either you control a character that speaks and decides things for his own, or having to control the classic silent protagonist, which usually can only say yes or no but makes you feel like you're the character and not a random god controlling someone's body 👁️ She loves the player even if the only things they are able to actually say are yes or no 🗿
One line I think is overlooked is "feelings flowing out across the screen until the battery runs dry" this not only proves that she is aware that she is in a game, but I believe that she isn't referring to the console battery but the battery that keeps the save intact (yes that was a thing with old cartridge games) and that is why the save is wiped at the end of the video and why her voice went back to what it was at the beginning. I don't nesserly think that when she falls into the darkness it represents going into the dark world, it could represent that that version of her is gone, or at least her memories are
Other theory is that she only received consciousness because of the bugs caused by the battery, and the final line, Which would be the greater change in the history of the game, was more than the little cartridge could handle, killing the battery
I was thinking the same thing, and it reminds me that all of the gen-1 pokemon games are dying as I write this, it happened to my yellow. My pokemon are on a silver cart so they are safe.
@@TheChaoCrew This has undertones of shipping real living people which is something I'm avidly against unless they're actually in a relationship (and even then I'm iffy on it)
Just beat Earthbound for the first time [minor spoilers] But when Paula said "there was something I wanted to tell you, but I forgot it" I had to pause for a moment. Like goddamn it Toby - you can't just change the connotations of the ending of your favourite game like this!
Holy fucking shit this was composed by a group of geniuses. Real people, trapped in the confines of a world they never knew wasn't real, until it breaks apart before their very eyes. They can't do anything to stop it. They have no power here, and they never actually get to say "I love you" for the first time until it's all over.
Almost sounds like something that could happen in Deltarune except replace "I Love You" with "Don't Forget" cause once it's over they are all in Eternal Darkness right after
Nobody is acknowledging that this is the combined efforts of not just two, not just three, but a whole slew of incredibly talented artists and musicians
@@Jake28 there should be a visual shouldn't be [a] because it makes people make the wrong assumption that artist are solely visual. I know it is not the case, but it should be addressed correctly.
@@NefariousTomato If you go anywhere in modern society, when you say you're an "artist", people will just assume visual. Entire communities are named after that, like ArtistLounge. It doesn't mean nonvisual artist's aren't artists, just that that's the general perception. Correcting one youtube comment isn't gonna change the societal view, and adding "visual artists" would just make the original comment more confusing since most people don't refer to artists in that manner
@@elmexicanofracazado9027 Yeah. Old games like that relied on batteries in the cartridge to keep the data (Since solid-state-storage that didn't require any power wasn't available for game carts, etc). Eventually... those batteries give out.
you know what? the part where the girl says in 1:44 "Seems our journey is now through, all is saved in thanks to you. There's something I should say, but... I should say but... Surely it can wait another day..." is very similar to what Paula from Earthbound will say at the end of the game just before she goes home. Paula will say: "Ness, thank you for escorting me home. There was something i wanted to tell you, but I've forgotten it. I'm sure I'll remember by the time I see you again. Well, I guess this is it… Good-bye. Uhhh… So long…"
I cried over a game that doesn't exist. It's not even like I was around the time where games like this would be a matter of nostalgia for me. This shows the emotional power of this song.
There's so many little details to this that make the story so much more interesting, such as how the aspect ratio in the game is 4:3 for the entire video until the game is rebooted and the last 2 verses start, at which point the aspect ratio is permanently 16:9, almost as if to say it was just a game before, but now she's expanded her world, and immersed the player in it with her love. Then, there's the whole thing with the only illustrated scene in the game being when she finally admits her love. She has become as real a person as you.
At the start of the story, the girl is uncertain and shy around the boy she loves. She tags along only at his command and is reluctant to show her true feelings. And just as the story ends, her last moment with him is spent praising his accomplishments, and not him as a person. The screen then dims, and the girl realizes that what she has done is not the ending she wanted. It's too late, and she thinks she will never see him again. But then, a miracle happens. The handheld is put away along with the players' other toys, and the internal battery aging, corrupts the save file, diluting the surroundings. The girl keeps her memories of the boy and knows she has to go for it. So, she leaps through the platforms in an effort to be with him, but.. it fails. The girl falls into a pit, leaving nothing but her wishes at her disposal. So, she prays for another chance, and the game, miraculously, changes the story so she can demonstrate just how much she loves the boy. In this new opportunity, the girl takes every chance she can to enjoy herself, value herself as a person, and be with the one she loves. And, this leads to a much more hopeful and interesting relationship. And when they both experience the same events again, the girl now knows that love isn't about being a part of another person, it's about the other person being a part of you. So, when the final scene plays, she has the willpower to declare her loyalty to the boy. The save file is reset, but she knows that the ending she wanted, happened. As the handheld gives it's last breath, she lives on in spirit.
No wonder these characters had such strong romance, they're on the Gameboy, a *_hand-held_* Wow, I wasn't expecting so many talented creators I recognize to be behind this song, or even this song's existence at all, really nice surprise for Halloween; this song has such a bittersweet feel to it that I like, incredible work from all the musicians and artists! "I believe in Skies Forever Blue, why shouldn't I believe the same in you...?"
I see this song as: A character in a video game (the pink girl) is sort of programmed to love the protagonist (the blue guy). Blue really loves this video game and plays it multiple times, until he forgets about it for a while. Years later, he picks it back up-- and it's different then he remembers. Pink's confidence is greater, and it changes the storyline in multiple ways. Instead of having a choice to leave her behind, Pink is the one who drags Blue throughout the rest of the game, going on adventures together. Instead of being afraid to swim, she jumps into the water with him. Their newer adventures strengthen their bond and gives Pink the confidence to finally tell him how she feels.
The video is for the lore of deltarune which in the file we see her name and in a grave and there's a link in the description where we see the girl sitting in the dark which me she's in the anti void
this is probably the only time I've watched credits and audibly gasped at every reveal. I came here for a Toby Fox song, but never expected to see that so many talented and excellent creators were here to help make this shine. Incredible job, shout outs to Smallbu, Insaneintherain, Family Jules and OMOCAT
Right!? Sooo many names I did not expect to see. I already knew about Toby Fox and OMOCAT, but then to see Carlos, Jules... and SMALLBU!!?! I should have known 2:38 - 3:00 was too good to be anyone else. That is a legendary group of people for a colab like this.
I'd like to think this is how the story went along with my analysis of the lyrics and video. I'll have a short summary explaining my interpretation of the story along with an explanation section below on why I think that way. "Short" summary: The story talks about a girl who gains self-consciousness by the end of an rpg game that is being played. Maybe it's because of her will to show her love, but the unthinkable happens, and she's able to think for herself and have a "free will." The game ends up being reset by the player, but the girl manages to maintain her consciousness during it. The player plays through the game again, and the girl falls in love with the hero again. She follows the game's intended sequence but with a mind to experience the journey like a living person. However, during her journey with the hero, she slowly realizes that she is a part of a game thanks to her being already self-conscious at this point. This was likely due to the weird responses the hero would give only being "yes" or "no" alluding to the fact that games during then would not have allowed for complex dialogues. Now realizing her love for not only the hero but the player as well, the two continue their journey, and after defeating the worldly threat and saving the world, their journey soon comes to an end. She wishes to convey her feelings but is hesitant partly due to it being against the games code to stray out of the intended dialogue and her also not being truthful to herself. She ultimately fails to tell the player her feelings, and the game is ended. Her view of the world goes dark as everything disappears once the player shuts the console off. Maybe it's because of her consciousness, but she's left with the regret of not telling her feelings and is left alone. The player, now satisfied from finishing his favorite game twice (or even more) now, decides to move on, and the game is forgotten for a long time. After a long time passes, the player stumbles onto the gameboy and decides to boot it up again, seeing how corrupted and broken the game was due to age, he decides to reset the save file to start again. The girl finally had her chance to spend time with her love after all the years, and she didn't want to lose what's shes built during her journey. Her earnest wishes and struggles manage to change the games code to such that she remembers her memories as the game is reset. This also may have been possible due to how unstable the code was because of the corrupt state of the game. Now, having the powers to change the scripted sequence of the intended game, the girl leads the hero/player in a make shift "new game plus" and does all the things she's wanted to. She knows that this will be their last journey together before everything ceases to work, so she wants to leave no regrets behind. After their final journey comes to an end, she's able to break free away and finally conveys her feelings to the hero/player. Now, having fufilled her wishes, the save file is erased due to the failing state of the game and also as this "new game plus" route was never originally intended to be in the game. It was created from the will and wish from a girl, and now that it was completed, it ceased to exist. The ending credits with the pixelated repeat of lyrics to the start of the song represents the game returning to its "original state" where the girl is back to being generated code spewing scripted dialogue as her memories and conciscousness moved on before the game boy ultimately loses its battery and the system breaks. It is truly a beautiful tragic tale. Now for the in-depth explanation as to why I think this way: First, I believe the lyrics with the pixelated vocals are not the conciscous dialogue of the girl but scripted dialogue. It would make sense that the vocals that are almost 8-bit is tied to actual game as games during that period would only have had that level of audio. In contrast to this, the life like vocals of the majority of the song are the thoughts and emotions of the girl. The lifelike voice strays heavily away from the usual 8-bit voice, showing the "life" in her character, symbolizing her coming to "life." This also means that she first gains consciousness at the start of the song during the intro ending scene of the game where her voice slowly turns from pixelated to life like. This also makes me believe that the original intended ending for the game is the girl thanking the hero for saving the world but not conveying her love from the game devs. This leads to the fact that I believe that the journey we, as the viewers see in the video, isn't actually the first time the player has played the game. During the end scene of the journey before the player shuts the system off, we can clearly see that the sequence of events is slightly different from the intro sequence version of the same scene like the girl not hesitating/sighing. There is also the fact that on the "altered" version of the scene, the girl says "pray this time my heart will shine on through" emphasis on "this time" so clearly she remembers being in this moment as she wants to convey her feelings "this time". However, like the summary states, she fails to do this due to some reason and is left forgotten and alone for years. She clearly seems to be self-conscious on the "first play through," we see as she says many quotes that hint at this. "When you made my name, the same just as the one you love, then I knew Maybe to your view, I'm just a faintly colored hue, that's alright Even if the only things you say are yes or no, " This shows a level of understanding that shows that the girl is aware of her existence and where she is in. Now for the makeshift "new game plus" idea, I paid attention to when the "buggy glitches" would appear during the second half of the video. First, it's obvious that the game hasnt been touched in some time from the pile of junk that is shown behind the game boy. This would have caused some bugs and corruption to the games system. When the player resets a game, you would expect things to be fixed and things to be normal again but you can see that in the second play through of the game, the buggy glitches are still apparent during the journey between the two. This makes me believe that this "new game plus" where different events occur was never intended to be in the game, but only created due to the girl's wishes to do the things she regretted not doing. She was somehow able to use the games corrupted state to change and carve her own story to see as it fits to fulfill her wishes. This further is backed up when the save files are all deleted, and the glitches are not seen in the credits. Showing that once she had finally finished her goals and moved on, the unintended "new game plus" was wiped, and the game was back to its original state. That's why we hear the pixelated vocals in the credits that sing the same intro part as it's just back to reading the scripted dialogue. The things that caused the bugs are no longer present in the game. Once the love is conveyed, the "new game plus" can come to an end, and the save file is gone forever. She knows that this will be their last journey together as the quote "until the battery runs dry" signifies that the battery of the game system is too old to be charged and the girl does everything to do everything she wants to do such as swimming in the ocean and presumably dance with the player. She can finally move on and accept that she and her memories will no longer exist after this. She may have to "bare it all and cry" for the short lived happiness during the time the two spent but that doesn't matter, she may be lost but the player, will remember their journey and her and that is all that matters. That's why she can "show the truth" of her feelings so she can finally, Say finally, "I love you." I couldn't sleep because of this damn beautiful song and had to write an analysis on it. Thank you for reading
This song is like leaving an amusement park as a kid. You enjoy it a lot, but when the time comes to leave there's a pain of no longer being able to experience it. It's like love and heartbreak in one song, but the heartbreak is only because you both know you have to move on.
I hate how everyone in the comments are only talking about omocat and toby fox when itoki hana and other people who worked on this are just being fucking sleeped on but they did such a great job, i get that u know omocat and toby fox and love them but please show more support to these people too thanks for the likes

It's official. Omori had a gameboy in Black Space Seriously though, this song was amazing. I did not know how much I needed this collab until now. Thank you so much!!
First time watching this: oh hey, this is pretty neat Second time: This feels strangely deep all of a sudden Third time: *sobbing* EDIT: Happened to watch it again a year later and even now im tearing up wtf why does this video have so much power over me
This gives me a big brain moment for something special A young girl finds her love here but she never achieved the ending she wanted and was shut off too quickly, one day the Player (the one holding the game boy) resets his save file and in the process Girl becomes self aware that she’s in a video game, with the new given chance she decides to take this second chance in hand and does her best to make her wishes true and be with the one she truly loves. The Young Girl realizes how much she wanted her own ending when she saw her love and everything she knew break apart at the seams and so she takes things into her own hands with this new given chance and gives herself the ending that she always wanted. Where the game ends where she can finally rest when the game ends where no other story can be told anymore and she is wiped being happy that she did what she achieved to do
What I mean by wiped I mean like her memories are forever lost and in another life the two relive their best ending in the next save file, as she knows that she has completed her goal and is okay forever being like this
i think its a really cute detail that the text in the 1st playthrough is way slower than the one after the time skip indicating that there were pretty young and read slowly 😭
@@rihcdar Yeah, I can certainly believe that they were inspired a little by Omori, especially the designs for the 'Hero' (badum tss) but I doubt they are meant to literally represent them. It would cheapen the stand alone value of this video I feel.
This song reminds me of all the wonderful worlds I get to experience playing video games, meeting new people, exploring the world, making my own stories within them... Then... some day, I'm done with it. I move on to a new world, rarely if ever returning to old ones. I have nothing against them, I truly love those worlds. But sad part is you can't stay in them forever, cause there's a limit to what that world can offer. And once you reach that limit, or that end, or what have you, that's it. But even afterward, no mater how much time passes, what memories I have of it remain, the love I have for those worlds will always stay with me.
What a beautiful song and video. There really is something incredibly powerful about the idea of a computer program falling in love and being unable to express those feelings because that's not in their script. At least how this song portrays it, it's a very pure idea of romance - they're not looking for validation, they're not trying to destroy things to fulfil their desires. They just love, and whether or not that's requited is alright by them.
I love how well this story plays with the differences on the reset. Whether the "game" is literal or a metaphor, it still shows that this love-sick heroine is stuck in a loop with the "protagonist", wanting to tell him she loves him but unable to find either the confidence or strength to. Maybe it's not just her, maybe it is something about their circumstances, maybe it is just the game's script. But she breaks free of that. She goes through the same journey again, taking change into her own hands the whole time. It doesn't matter if it changes her life drastically, it doesn't matter if it's not what she's "supposed" to do, she finally just takes the leap, and confesses her feelings. I think the biggest indicator the whole game setting is at least somewhat metaphorical is the fact that the videos draws a distinction between the game and the real world artistically, with the game being pixelated while the real world is his res, as can be seen when it pans out to show the gameboy. But right at the end of the song, when the girl finally says "I love you", she's suddenly drawn in hi-res art. She's become real, she's made her _feelings_ real. God Omocat's artstyle works so perfectly for this story.
I think it's also meant to be a commentary on games like that. The first time when she says "All is saved in thanks to you", it's very much "you saved the day", but I think the second time around it's got something else to it, where even though the media dies over time, the game isn't gone because you still think about it. Just because your adventure with her ended doesn't mean she's gone. I think this fits with how much it feels like Link's Awakening, where we have a striking image of the protagonist and the female lead looking at the body of water while the female lead wishes to be free using an allusion to a native animal, little stuff like the floating instruments playing a song, it being on the GameBoy even. The game has very heavy themes about the fleeting nature of life and how something can be said to persist even after facing oblivion, which I feel is kind of the message in the video as well. The two seagulls flying off during the intro is also a reference to this, although I don't really feel like going to far into Link's Awakening right now.
Seeing both Toby and Omocat togheter is a dream come through, they are both such big names in my memory now for so many reasons, and i'm glad they are both still going strong! But also, all the new names who are part of this are just as amazing, and i hope to see them all again, everything in this project looks and sounds wonderful ! Cheers from Brazil to everyone involved, but also to anyone reading this. I hope you're doing well :>
I feel like this song's concept may be partially inspired by one of the interviews hosted with Shigasato Itoi about Mother 3, which is the next game in the mother series after Earthbound. Mainly due to this line: "When you made my name the same just as the one you love, then I knew." In the interview, the interviewer and Itoi discuss the power of naming characters after people in your real life, as well as the interesting, unique feelings it sparked in the players who got to see these beloved characters go through the dark trials and tribulations that plague the unfortunate world of Mother 3. It has always been a fascinating concept to me, although I admittedly do not have the strength to name characters in any game after my family myself (except Tomodachi Life and Miitopia, can't go wrong with that!) because we're not the happiest bunch to start out with, and I don't think I'd be able to tank anything bad happening to those family-named characters... unless if I know that the nature of the game is sillier or feel-good in nature. The closest I came to it was when I affectionately named my partner pokemon in PMD: Explorers of Sky after my pet, having zero spoilers story-wise and not anticipating the twists that the narrative would take. I ended up having an emotional crisis at the ending scene because I had gotten so fond of my partner, likely amplified by how I projected my beloved pet onto this adorable lil critter. I was in absolute despair because of these brilliantly written characters and their painfully human reactions, and I didn't even think things through to realize that there was a post-game, so I literally thought that the journey ended there...but I was soon proved wrong! :) Saddest pokemon game I have ever played. I did not see the feels coming. Obviously, the girl in this song is likely talking about the player first naming the girl's character after a girl he crushes on in real life, so it's not quite family, but it's still a loved one, so it shares a similar sentiment to that discussion. Here's the translation of that interview for those interested few! (Edit: Forgot to mention there's spoilers for the plot of Mother 3, whoops) mother3.fobby.net/interview/m3int_06.html
Further reinforcing your argument is--well, simply the name of the song! "Skies Forever Blue" is a line in Pollyana. "I believe in skies for ever blue! Why shouldn't I believe the same in you--"
I got recommended this by a friend in a discord server and after watching it both before and after reading the comments,I have to say this is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen on the internet, which I suppose is too be expected when you have a joint project between Hitoki Hana,Toby Fox, and many other talented indie artists. You guys have genuinely made memories and miracles happen. To the creators and the wonderful famdoms supporting them, from the bottom of my heart, thank you 😊 🙏
Whenever I come back and watch this I always realise how this represents life. You're gonna do things, or not do things, that you regret and as much as you wish you could go back you will never get the exact chance ever again. So live life to the fullest and have zero regrets, but be safe!
As a person who’s in love with the overall aesthetic of old-like games but hasn’t actually played one, I confirm this hits in the feels no matter who you are.
This one song captures perfectly that one feeling I have with my relationship, my partner struggles a lot in expressing themselves, all they do sometimes is just say things back and they struggle a lot with showing it through words but i know well that they love me, they have shown me a million times that they do. and even if all the things they say are just little gestures, small actions, or love you too, they make me the happiest person there is, and i know i make them happy too. Sometimes you don't need a billion words to know you are doing things right. You know know that you are.
I just came home from school, hoping to just have a relaxing time but i didn't expect to cry. This is the best piece of art i have ever heard today, i really underestimate how good Toby fox and omocat at making music! And also good job to anyone else who worked on this. Really Made my day❤️
This song made me cry, it just hit different. Knowing that a heartwarming ending happened for the lovers. The thing that made me cry more was when the games memory battery lost its charge. The girl got to die peacefully knowing that she said what she wanted for a while. God it’s hard typing this with tears
What is there to say? This is amazing. Every time Toby Fox and OMOCAT collaborate, they make a masterpiece! Of course, credit is also due for Insaneintherain, Family Jules and everyone else who worked on this.
You Know it's a Pretty Good song when you are feeling emotions for characters that you don't know. Man is it a treat to see everyone of my favorite Artists Coming together to Create Something Like this
After a recent breakup, this song hits me even harder. “Seems our journey is now through” reminds me that we’re over. “2 Friends started just as neighbors” describes how we started and how we met. “Ever since the day we met a parcel of my mind’s lost to you” reminds me of how unconditionally i loved her. How much i thought about her and her wellbeing. “To finally, say finally, i love you.” ….. This is self explanatory. This song hit me like a truck originally, but now it hits me 10 times harder.
God... same thing happened to me a month ago, damn, I loved him so much... Right now I'm 15, he's 16, but he decided to start a relationship with a 21 year old girl less than a week after our breakup
I know this is technically a love song, but my older brother passed away two years ago almost and the song will always remind me of him. I looked up to him so much and he always played old-school video games. He got me into them even if he hated that I accidentally overrided his saves on games. I miss him every day and always missed spending time with him and enjoying time with him. I wished I got another chance to really tell him I loved him and just how great of a big brother he was to me. Even if I was never his full-blooded sister, every chance I got to have to be in his company and reciprocate the love he had by sharing games and anime together felt like my skies always turned blue. I'll always miss you Bubby ❤ Thanks for making this life better. I love you.
Just watch, many people will use this video to create speculations/theories about later chapters of Deltarune that have yet to be released at time of writing. Whenever Toby is involved with anything, the fans will use that material to speculate and make theories of later chapters of Deltarune. Smash Bros creator Masahiro Sakurai, suffered a similar fate. Whenever it was seen or heard of Sakurai playing games he did not make, the Smash Bros fanbase would use that as means of trying to guess later Fighter DLC releases, leaving Sakurai to not talk anymore about games he's been playing. Of course, with no further DLC releases for Ultimate, Sakurai doesn't need to worry about that anymore, at least for now. Speaking of Sakurai and Toby Fox, awhile back, it was revealed that Toby went to Sakurai's house and they played Smash Bros together, and Toby was on par in skill in that game with Sakurai. I have this guess that perhaps, Sans becoming a DLC Mii Fighter costume, coming with Megalovania as music, was Sakurai rewarding Toby for his efforts. And btw, in Deltarune, it's revealed Smash Bros exists in that universe, although under the parody name of "Super Smashing Fighters", and that Asriel was a Yoshi main in Smash Bros. Both reveals ingame can be easily missed.
This song always makes me cry a lot. It hits in a weird spot in my about feelings and things left untold by someone dear to you, and at the same time, it gives you that bittersweet feeling of a emotional farewell between loved ones. the chiptune also hits in my nostalgia/childhood about most games I've consumed were from that era. and just today, after so long, I've watched the PV. God...it hurt way more than I expected it. It was everything I imagined while hearing and more. Itoki Hana and Toby Fox made an amazing emotional song that always makes em cry congrats, and thank you for the tears
How the heck did y'all put together this all star team??????? This was such a joy to hear and I know I'll be listening to it for a long time now... And when I eventually stop listening, I will return on some later day and most likely understand the lyrics that much more.
That feeling of, finishing a game you enjoyed every second of, the game that feels like YES this is the one... but now you've finished it... Also I heard a bit of Dont forget from deltarune in there at 2:10 Absolutely love the art too, this entire thing is a masterpiece
it's just a coincidence, i don't think toby would reuse a motif in something that isn't related to his own projects. edit: before anyone says, i do know that toby reused motifs from his old projects in his newer ones. it's just that it's unlikely that he'd reuse a fresh motif like don't forget in something.
I had that feeling with Pokémon Yellow when I finished the story. Temptation to reset the game or abandon it. ironically I have 2 abandoned copies of it that still work and have been reset a few times 😂
@@notTLWO It's kinda just a melody... descending while jumping back and forth between the previous note. It's not that rare, and even though Toby Fox worked on this, I would doubt this to be an allusion to Don't Forget.
Feels like a story thats finally finishing yet you aren’t ready to let go of it, you don’t want the adventure to end yet. (the animation in this is phenomenal and i’ve had this song on loop for awhile now, amazing work)
The fact that all these prominent musicians and writers are all working together on this is incredible. Itoki Hana and Toby was already a fever dream, seeing Jules Conroy, Carlos Eiene, and OMOCAT join in too is wild. Amazing job!
This reminds me of my old Dragon Quest V DS save file. Was 10 at the time and it still feels so nostalgic. Sadly, my DS died at some point and now it's somewhere in my parents' house, covered in dust, still hugging the old cartridge of an unfinished playthrough
I stopped improving my art awhile ago but this song makes me want to start improving again Btw amazing song and visuals thanks for everyone who made this song
I don't think a song has ever grown on me so much before, when this released I thought it was okay but recently I've kept coming back to it because parts of it are just so good, especially 0:32 and 2:34, the way the extra instruments and counter melodies come in is just insanely good and catchy. Really like this song.
These guys just don’t get it. Kirby was initially produced by Shigesato Itoi as a sequel to Earthbound. When he discovered the limitations that he would have in terms of story, he ditched the project entirely. Masahiro Sakurai took what he had and turned it into Kirby, while Itoi began work on Mother 3. As such, the original Kirby has many references to Earthbound. Nah, I’m kidding. Can someone please tell me what Kirby has to do with Earthbound?
The use of the old game console is brilliant here. I love the theme of the battery slowly dying and the world crumbling as memory is lost. The player outside of the game moves on and has an evolving complex experience, but the girl is trapped in a cycle of trying to reach her friend, neighbor that she loves. The player can only reach her through yes and no options and can only watch her lose her memories over again. I'm not religious but I think this is kind of how a god would see humanity. Completely alone in heaven with simple, beautiful creatures appearing, disappearing, but never lasting or remembering. It's melancholic and makes me glad to have other people that aren't just stagnant characters in an old game.
yeah, this is an amazing song. i swear itoki hana and toby fox are like the best duo ever music wise . it was really cool to see everyone who was involved with the MV being credited at the end. OMOCAT's style is very distinct and it was a surprise to see her involved in this

If i replace the battery before it dies will the save data still be there?
@@CURSE_OF_RAH Well, to replace the battery, you'd need to take it out... so the power it provides that keeps the save file stored wouldn't be there anymore..
I was about to comment on this somewhere else but I feel like here my comment would be fitter. With so much compassion for video games, it's not surprising that Undertale came out like it did.

Hello there
Oh hey, creator of Loveweb
666 likes (I have no idea what I am doing with my life)
So, I've watched this a couple times now, and first off, great song, it's been stuck in my head since i first played it. But also, i realized that there's actually a pretty deep story for those who couldn't catch on to it, so i thought i'd get into detail:
At the very start, we see that the player made it to the end of the game and triggered the end cutscene dialogue.
WOW.
Great Breakdown! Almost as good as my breakdown when i watch this video and cry everytime

"When you made my name /the same just as / the one you love /then I knew"
Man, this is such a line.
(VA = voice acting?)
@@underrated1524 yes
"even if the only things you say are yes or no, i see blue skies"
This line is also pretty good, in games usually your decisions and things you can say are usually really limited and depend on what the creator(s) decide, either you control a character that speaks and decides things for his own, or having to control the classic silent protagonist, which usually can only say yes or no but makes you feel like you're the character and not a random god controlling someone's body 👁️

First hearing that line, it felt independent. After reading your comment, though, I remember - Matthew the Entei, Seb the Mewtwo...
@@togekiss09 meanwhile Oneshot fans:

A character in a video game (the pink girl) is sort of programmed to love the protagonist (the blue guy).

"Short" summary:
The story talks about a girl who gains self-consciousness by the end of an rpg game that is being played.
Now for the in-depth explanation as to why I think this way:
First, I believe the lyrics with the pixelated vocals are not the conciscous dialogue of the girl but scripted dialogue.
"When you made my name, the same just as the one you love, then I knew
Maybe to your view, I'm just a faintly colored hue, that's alright
Even if the only things you say are yes or no, "
This shows a level of understanding that shows that the girl is aware of her existence and where she is in.
That's why she can "show the truth" of her feelings so she can finally,
Say finally,
"I love you."

A young girl finds her love here but she never achieved the ending she wanted and was shut off too quickly, one day the Player (the one holding the game boy) resets his save file and in the process Girl becomes self aware that she’s in a video game, with the new given chance she decides to take this second chance in hand and does her best to make her wishes true and be with the one she truly loves.

I have nothing against them, I truly love those worlds.
But sad part is you can't stay in them forever, cause there's a limit to what that world can offer.

Love is a beautiful feeling. Change my mind.
ddlc vibes

@@TheAdvertisement Well good luck on that!
my goofy ass not trying to say "heroin" when hearing the word "heroine"

I feel like this song's concept may be partially inspired by one of the interviews hosted with Shigasato Itoi about Mother 3, which is the next game in the mother series after Earthbound. Mainly due to this line: "When you made my name the same just as the one you love, then I knew."
In the interview, the interviewer and Itoi discuss the power of naming characters after people in your real life, as well as the interesting, unique feelings it sparked in the players who got to see these beloved characters go through the dark trials and tribulations that plague the unfortunate world of Mother 3.
(Edit: Forgot to mention there's spoilers for the plot of Mother 3, whoops)

It makes sense this was released on Halloween, it's hauntingly beautiful!!!!
I stopped improving my art awhile ago but this song makes me want to start improving again
Btw amazing song and visuals thanks for everyone who made this song
Keep improving my dude, you can do it!
love your own artstyle
I don't think a song has ever grown on me so much before, when this released I thought it was okay but recently I've kept coming back to it because parts of it are just so good, especially 0:32 and 2:34, the way the extra instruments and counter melodies come in is just insanely good and catchy. Really like this song.
Given that Itoki Hana covered some Kirby songs years ago, this could be considered a crossover between three Earthbound-inspired creators.
whats kirby got to do with earthbound?
@@musicknight fr 💀
How is Kirby is related to Earthbound?
Im with the rest, why is kirby earthbound?
These guys just don’t get it. Kirby was initially produced by Shigesato Itoi as a sequel to Earthbound. When he discovered the limitations that he would have in terms of story, he ditched the project entirely. Masahiro Sakurai took what he had and turned it into Kirby, while Itoi began work on Mother 3. As such, the original Kirby has many references to Earthbound.
Nah, I’m kidding. Can someone please tell me what Kirby has to do with Earthbound?
this hits so hard for no reason
toby got me to cry for video game characters 3 times in one year
Bro, I'm watching this in a hotel by the beach with my parents sleeping in the room and I'm giving my all here trying not cry in front of them. 😭
The art of OMOCAT, the music of Toby Fox, and the vocals of Itoki…These…These combine together to make a miracle!
This is a crossover made in heaven
I love the work of everyone involved here. Absolutely wonderful
The jazzy instruments kicking in at 2:37 RIGHT as the part where the animation team behind Later Alligator starts playing is just
mwah
THIS WAS MADE BY THE LATER ALLIGATOR TEAM????? AHJSHBDUJGSGUMWBDBDSW
True gamers know that all good experiences are never finished until they're forgotten.
Just checked the song credits and oh my goodness that line up is STACKED.
Great job everyone! This is a masterpiece!
im actually sobbing so hard rn, Itoki and Toby you guys outdid yourselves. I am in love with this
The use of the old game console is brilliant here.
This hurts on too many levels to describe. Amazing!
This video and music makes me nostalgic for some reason, it's so good 😌
also this was an unexpected and awesome crossover
It invokes that feeling when you've finished a really good story that you fully immersed yourself in. It's beautiful

yeah, this is an amazing song. i swear itoki hana and toby fox are like the best duo ever music wise .
it was really cool to see everyone who was involved with the MV being credited at the end. OMOCAT's style is very distinct and it was a surprise to see her involved in this
4:06 this smile is as warm as the warmest hug
Everyone who worked on this is a master of their craft
