14:20 My current industry: IT Where do I see myself going? I would like to switch from IT to finance industry because I believe project management can help financial institutions navigate project complexities while delivering value to stakeholders.
Sonia, thank you for sharing your background and experience!! I've seen many project management jobs across the finance industry, so there absolutely is opportunity there!
Hi Alvin. Your videos are always super helpful. Can you also make a video for entry level PM roles. Im an entry level project administrator but i have no experience in leading. I have more of an admin and document management experience for long construction projects. Quite insignificant tbh
So glad you're finding my videos helpful! I wouldn't consider your experience insignificant. You're building skills and experiences (and also connections) in the construction industry that you can leverage for future opportunities! I'll add that to my list of future videos to create
Wow, this video was incredibly insightful and packed with relevant information! Your ability to explain complex topics so clearly is awe-inspiring. Thank you for putting in the effort to create such valuable content-it's exactly what I was looking for! 🙌 Keep up the amazing work!
I am in the Construction Industry, and I see My Self, as the Owner of a Construction Company, and one day a Freelancer of Project Management for Others
Hi Alvin. I must confess that you have been very resourceful with your videos. I recently rejiged my resume to reflect my project management experience from my home country. In the course of studying project management as a degree in the last two years, i have acquired my pmp and csm certification. I have started applying for PM roles as i will be completing my degree this month end. What advice do you have for me?
So glad you found my videos helpful! I plan to release more videos to help you grow your career in PM. Stay tuned! Also, huge congrats on finishing your degree this month. My biggest advice for where you're at currently, would be to start connecting with people in your network, and see if there are any opportunities in the industry you want to get into. One connection can open up so many doors for you
Hello Alvin, Thanks for the wonderful videos on PM. I am currently in healthcare and would like to get PM roles in healthcare. Would you kindly recommend the best approach to landing PM jobs in the healthcare industry? Thank you!
@daopow, so glad you're enjoying my videos on PM. Since you want to stay in the same industry, I'd recommend connecting to colleagues and mentors in your network, and letting them know that you're interested in PM roles. Once you put the "feelers" out there, you can always reach out and see if there are any PM openings in companies/hospitals that you're interested in applying to. It's one way to get your foot into the door, through a close connection with a colleague
Hi Alvin! I currently live in Canada and I'm planning to move to another country next year at the same time I'm doing the google PM course and the CAMP certificate i would like to work remotely as a junior PM with a background as a civil engineer. How do you see the market for a remote job? Which companies would you recommend me to apply for a job?
I still see opportunities for PM roles that are remote, I'd encourage you to search within your industry and companies that interest you the most in the country that you want to move to
I was an operations manager focused on BOH and Warehouse in hotels and hospitality. I'm an entry-level project manager with a flooring and tile company. I'm considering the CAPM and PMP certifications as my next steps to work toward a new opportunity, but I'm unsure which department I'd want it to be in.
Absolutely, you have built up many skills, experiences, and connections that you can leverage to land a future PM Role. Remember, it's all about how you package and sell yourself, you can do it and I believe in you
Great content as always! With your help, I passed my PMP. Could you recommend the easiest course to take next? I'm considering risk management, agile, or business analyst. Do you have experience with any of these?"
@aidanbrennan7389, so glad to hear you found my content helpful! Also, congrats on passing your PMP! For the next course for you to take, I'd recommend prioritizing the one which will give you the highest ROI on the next job opportunity you want to land in the next 1-2 years, or which one will help you out the most in your current job role. So, if you plan to do more Agile work with leading Agile projects, then I'd recommend going down the Agile route. If you see yourself doing more Business Analyst work, especially with collecting requirements and understanding the user needs, then that is a great option. And Risk management is always a great skill to develop, since that is how we bring our highest value as project managers. Which course are you leaning more towards?
Sonia, thank you for letting me know! Stay tuned, because I plan to create and release even more videos to help you land your next job in project management!
