Those 1200 heads shown in the video are the early ones with the big 67cc "Hemi" combustion chambers. The '04 up 1200 heads have pear shaped 62cc chambers, bigger 1.81"/1.575" valves, and better ports. They are functionally identical to the Buell "XB" heads. The '04-up and XB heads are better performing than the earlier heads by a good bit.

Nice video mate. We just put in a 1.86 intake valve in my 883 head. With high compression pistons that's about as big as they can be in that little head. We had alot of problems with clearance 🤪

+Hampus Bergman Hello Hampus and thank you for watching and your comments! I would highly recommend the investment into a Hammer Performance Kit! For me it was really kind of a game changer in the way I viewed Harley Sportsters and my enthusiasm toward building and riding! Thanks again and good luck with your dreams!

Your videos are "eye openers" for me. I knew there were ways to mod Sportster engines but I've never seen anything like this. I've seen things done like this to cars and I knew it could be done to Harleys.

Hey Jeff! One thing about Harley's is that they are a great building blocks for custom performance builds. Like many other vehicles, there are many different performance options to consider. That is one of the reasons people like HD's so much because they can build them to their own liking!

Hi mate. How about a Video on what heads or bumps in size can go on what sportsters. What are the options you think would suit the later 2017 onwards type roadsters and other such twin disc machines.

Hey, great video. I'm looking at a set of assembled 883 heads and cylinders on the cheap. I know i can get the cylinders bored out but can they convert the 883 heads to take the larger valves or anything? Very curious, cant find anything about head conversions.

I am pretty sure Hammer Performance will tell you the stock 883 head gives the highest compression but is let down by valve size.

Are used the wise go conversion pistons 4 and 832 or 1200 years and 883 heads worked very well still works very well

I have a 1250 kit with a cam and solid lifters and decompression valves for easy starting, bought bike thus way with not much info on build cause it came from a estate sale. Bike has cv40 carb with 48 pilot and 185 main. Seem to be running lean from looking at plugs and it back fires at low speed . Should I bump up the pilot to a 50 and main to a 190. Bike has no gasket leaks. Bike also has inverted front forks an aluminum swingarm, dual brembo front breaks and rear and a baker 6 speed so I'm thinking no money was spared for motor build.

It’s weird seeing the difference in size when the 883 heads can work with a 1200 conversion. Seems like I’m gonna lose power using the 883 heads (starting the tear down of my bike Sunday to do a 1200 conversion). What do you think?

Hello Joel and thanks for your comments! I think the stock Buell head would be have a higher flow and HP rating than the standard XL1200 head. Overall the Buell's had more HP's than the stock XL1200 by about 20 to 30 percent more. Thanks again!!!

@@benjimancorbin5751 You can, but you'll need dished pistons. The flat top 1200 pistons with the small 883 chambers will bring the compression up way too high.
