Tanner is spot on. I worked with a coach over a year in the mind body world. I tried addressing my trauma via journaling and it back fired in a major way. It was then that I sought out a trauma counselor and got some EMDR and Internal Family Systems. Life changing for me and has helped me like nothing else. After 22 sessions of EMDR I am now done but still doing IFS daily. IFS is fantastic and has helped heal so many trauma responses that came up during my EMDR session. Thanks Tanner for a great video and all you do.

Could you please elaborate on what IFS practices you do daily for trauma? That'd be very helpful

@@adapv9584 IFS is a form of psychotherapy created by Richard Schwartz. Basically your sensations/pain are messages from parts of you that you need to learn to go inside of you and listen to the burdens & emotions they carry and help them heal. Once they heal the sensations/pain turns off. This is all trauma work which you can learn to do on your own but I encourage you to find a IFS therapist to help you get started. Go to youtube and start listening to anything and everything from Richard Schwartz and you will learn how to do IFS on yourself because he usually does this with every host that interviews him. He has a book called Introduction to Internal Family Systems that is very easy to read and understand. Hope that helps. Good luck to you.

I love IFS. I was re traumatised by EMDR sessions. Apparently it was because I had at the time an unstable root chakra. I love to hear of others healing. Thank you for sharing and much love to all on their journey ❤

Hi Tanner. Could you please do a video about chronic pain and anger? I've noticed that it's actually repressed anger (maybe more than fear) that's actually behind the pain...it would be really helpful

Hello Tanner, thank you for your videos! I come from germany and here, we have nearly no information about the connection between chronic pain, nervous system an trauma. Even most psychotherapists are not very familiar with this concept. Great education from you! Great work!

Peter Levine, whom you've quoted before, surprised me when he said car accidents are traumatic - and I've had 13 of them. It makes perfect sense - when a huge metal monster comes at you rapidly and hits your car, you have no idea how bad the accident is going to be - or if you'll survive whole, or at all. We are taught to hold things in, to walk away and say, "I'm okay" instead of shaking off the trauma the way animals do. Excellent point, that chronic pain and the way we are treated in the medical community can cause trauma (as can benzo withdrawal). The Chi Gong you've taught also helps to move the trauma through and out of your body - as does shaking and dancing. Another great video, Tanner, thank you!

I love that you mentioned that the trauma of our progressive symptoms needs to be addressed as well. Have you seen one modality work more than any other for dealing with the trauma caused by symptoms without self-pity or symptom obsession?

This really depends person to person on what is the best approach for sensitization trauma. Generally I utilize somatic experiencing and a Polyvagal lens.

Hi Tanner- again, great content and presentation. I healed 2+ years of chronic pain thru yoga and meditation. But since developed nightly physical sensations that run along the spectrum and prevent me from sleeping. I’ve committed to a somatic practice, but I do sense I am getting re-traumatized at times. . . Being pushed into deep fear. Certainly not most nights, often I am able to “just be with the discomfort”.
You said Somatic practice often is not enough. Are you suggesting practices like EMDR, ect? I just want to make sure I understand what you mean.
    Thanks so much - Mike

Have you done emotional work? For me that with somatic experiencing was key to healing.

Also be aware of something that Dr. John Sarno called "symptom Imperative" which is where you "heal" one symptom and another one just pops up--there are endless "stress" symptoms--from IBS, to CFS, POTS, pain, rashes, shaking, temperature issues, and so much more. The key for me (I was very emotionally repressed) was doing so much work getting back into my body and feeling grief and sadness, anger, fear, shame, etc. as that was the issues all along.

It is great to hear about the healing work you are doing. Trauma work can be vital, I personally used a somatic approach to healing trauma and use this with clients. However, it is individual in what approach a person prefers when treating trauma. It can take some exploring to find a therapist that fits best for you!

Thanks for your great video Tanner. I also love the work from your compatriot Dr Russell Kennedy, have you heard from him or his book (Anxiety Rx)? I would love to hear what you think of his method; I think there is a lot of similarities with your messages on this channel; his book is all about Trauma and how to talk / soothe the part of you that contained the trauma, using somatic practices.
