I was a really big fan of them bringing back the Smoky Progg. They really made him look really cool and fit in with the rest of the game which is pretty impressive considering he was just a green blob with glowing red eyes on his face in Pikmin 1. And in general it was just a really cool and unexpected enemy to bring back, it's cool to see them give these older enemies HD models for people to look at.
Except the mystery and wonder of Smokey Progg is no longer there. He’s just kind of “there” in Pikmin 4, with a cutscene. In Pikmin 1 you saw the huge mysterious egg. And MAYBE you’d see it hatch by circumstance into the very scary Smokey Progg that killed all your Pikmin before sunset the first time. Then Olimar would say something about it in his dairy, which made it even cooler and more mysterious. That part of the game was missing.
