john veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee here from phone arena, never gets old.
Only thing is that I installed a third party SSD and RAM, which truly make this machine fly. And a final thought, I think every company has their own strengths, and suit the needs of different people. Also, are you on any custom ROMs at the moment?
It actually DOES offer continuous auto focus during video capture john. Cmon you're the best phone reviewer I know you can't miss that. I do have the phone. Great phone!
I'm considering getting a Nexus 4 from the Google Play store, the basic vanilla variant, nothing special. Problem is, i leave the country for a month or so starting december 16th, if i place the order today/tomorrow (nov 26th-27th), will i be able to definitely get the product shipped to me in time? I live in Sunnyvale, CA btw, not Alaska or Hawaii :-D
LTE works in Canada on the Nexus 4 as it uses LTE AWS Band 4 2100/1700 MHz bands. So the LTE chip in the Nexus 4 and existing antenna does support some LTE.
so i was just curious. my cousin has this phone, and when ever she gets a notification, at the botton of the glass, a blue light pulses under the screen. is this like with the phone, or is it not?
I've also managed to convert a handful of iPhone and BB users. It isn't hard to convince them considering the extreme lack of features that iPhone'ss and BB's offer. The only apple product line I truly support are the Mac's. I am on a Macbook right now. The OS is just so smooth and polished, and I can honestly say I have never had any issues in the time that I have owned it. I can boot into windows when needed, and everything is just flawless.
get optimus 4x hd it has almost same spects but 2 more proccessors, better IPS screen, 8bg more space and..... 0.1inch bigger screen :D I am gonna buy nexus 4 which is almost the same with optimus 4x hd, i recomment you the optimus 4x hd.
It isn't about the physical size of the screen. It is about the resolution. The Galaxy Nexus had (has) a resolution of 1280x720, which is true 720p. From what I have seen, the on screen buttons turn into dots while watching videos, but are still taking up whatever part of the screen. With the Nexus 4, the screen is 1280x768, so while the screen is oriented in landscape, you may produce results of 720p, but if the screen is in portrait mode, the on screen buttons are still taking away.
I have the Gnex and can assure you that not only that phone but every android phone with on screen buttons has them disappear when in landscape mode for a few activities, mainly video viewing. I don't see how resolution becomes relevant (unless you're concerned about a minor decrease in pixel density) in comparing screen sizes. Android is very flexible and there are no restrictions dictating that any phone has to be one of a handful of resolutions (like apple and windows).
Mr J, you found that the performance of Nexus 4 is not as smooth as Optimus G. I think the reason could be you were doing the review when downloading and installing a lot of apps in the background, I can see it from the videos
I personally have the S3, so I am not too familiar with how the GNex functions. If you say that they disappear, then that seems like a good way to manage the buttons. One thing I love about talking with others about android devices is that the conversation always ends up mentioning how much the iPhone lacks.
I guess you like google, don't you? :) I want nexus 4 so badly but it's kinda hard to get one. Congratulations on having the whole google family. I just have nexus 7.
Vanilla is a term used to mean "stock" or "standard" when talking about technology. Here it means that this is the original version of Android direct from Google with no skins or custom UIs on top of it like Samsung's Touchwiz or HTC's Sense present on each respective company's phones.
htc one x(jelly bean update) or nexus 4? I want a phone with: good performance( definatly no UI lag), a beautifull screen, fantastic built quality , descent camera
it doesnt even matter if it doesnt have lte, im on tmobile in the us, the only carrier that offers it uses hspa+ and it starts at 200 w/ a two year contract, great phone!
Android is seriously smooth and nice now, I am very impressed. I had a HTC Desire before but am now on a HTC Titan (WP7), I might change to Android again tho in the future.
I never understood why people say that. You can also look at it conversely and say "Okay, why are there capacitive buttons? Those can be converted into screen real estate"
LTE isn't a gimmick, but the Nexus 4 is capable of HSPA+ 42 which does show in major areas speeds that equals LTE, just without the battery drain. More people have an HSPA+ smartphone in the world than an LTE smartphone, so it makes sense that Google decided to exclude the LTE. The same speed available to more people with less battery drain, why wouldn't you replace LTE with that?
Does it come with a note app from Google? I didn't see a native note app the last time I had an android phone. That was gingerbread.... Is it under "Documents" or do you have to create google word documents to take notes? Anyone? I really want this phone!!
Capacitive buttons are actually a major cause for screen cracks as you'll find when you crack a phone even an iphone it will most of the time crack at it or to it.
Plus, you get 50GB on a cloud service (I think Box.net or GDrive) whenever you buy a Nexus device. LG and Google didn't add an SD Card slot because they want more users to store their data on a cloud.
john veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee here from phone arena, never gets old.

How much does the case help? Have you dropped it after you started using the phone case?
yay !!!!!!!!! what about the camera, is it burst shot or does it take photos with really little shutter lag ?
Wich is better for you nexus 4 or sgs3? Thanks goooooood video!
Only thing is that I installed a third party SSD and RAM, which truly make this machine fly. And a final thought, I think every company has their own strengths, and suit the needs of different people. Also, are you on any custom ROMs at the moment?
Is the screen sensitive enough? I heard it wasnt that sensitive? thanks
It actually DOES offer continuous auto focus during video capture john. Cmon you're the best phone reviewer I know you can't miss that. I do have the phone. Great phone!

on the nexus 4, can you take pictures from videos ? like on the htc one x and one x plus?
so i was just curious. my cousin has this phone, and when ever she gets a notification, at the botton of the glass, a blue light pulses under the screen. is this like with the phone, or is it not?
is the nexus 4 still sold out in the us? i cant access the play store from my country

Muhammad Mesum my mistake i though you were only between Xperia SP and 4x HD. Nexus 4 recommended from me, it has better desighn than 4x HD
Thanks bro.

Do you think i would notice a big diference if i change my galaxy s3 (international version) for the nexus 4?

@pyro74boy I am using an Nexus 4 at the moment could you please point out the bugs because I would like to know as everything has been working fine

Ive read that LG Nexus 4 doesnt support Flash, but if it doesnt how would you be watching this :P Does it now support it or has it always?
Are you partial to Google at all?
The nexus 7 is great right?, i also bought one.

Where can I get that background wallpaper at the end of this video?
why in phonearena's site there is a cons in this device(Lacks microSD slot for storage expansion) and then you showed it in 3.26
What surface are you shooting your close ups on?
Biggest addition to the email, is the fit to page option in the settings.
This guy is the best tech reviewer with the linustechtips and jon4lakers.

Thanks for introducing me to Matt & Kim at 09:36. (They make some great songs.)
You're welcome!
where phonearena is from???US or from UK
I have 3 options to choose Nexus 4, Xperia Z and Galaxy S4. Which one is good guys? Its hard to select one from them. :|
As usual, a great review from John V.
What's the point if it will be sold for more than 500$ for 8GB in my country?
I have the Gnex and can assure you that not only that phone but every android phone with on screen buttons has them disappear when in landscape mode for a few activities, mainly video viewing. Mr J, you found that the performance of Nexus 4 is not as smooth as Optimus G. I think the reason could be you were doing the review when downloading and installing a lot of apps in the background, I can see it from the videos
No LTE was said by Google. It was later discovered that an LTE chip exist, but can only be used within Canada.
I personally have the S3, so I am not too familiar with how the GNex functions. If you say that they disappear, then that seems like a good way to manage the buttons. One thing I love about talking with others about android devices is that the conversation always ends up mentioning how much the iPhone lacks.

PhoneArena next time disable video resampling in your video editors, that frame blending just bugs me off...

The best review of Nexus 4, yet.
From where can i get it?
The best Nexus 4 review I've seen
how much is this if you dont buy it from google?
Just out of curiosity, have you found any flaws with the Nexus 4? Anything hardware-wise?Bad reception?
Just received mine today. Best Android experience so far. If you were waiting for a good time to switch from iOS, this might be it.
Hi guys, Jooohhhhhhhhnnnnn V here from PhoneArena
Best review I've seen so far.
Is there a dock like the Samsung nexus dock? ?
This is the first time i saw the person that does phonearena review.

4x HD or Nexus 4?
make a video comparison of Nexus 4 and Iphone 5.
No review ever mentions about the heat issues which is noticeable under normal use. That makes me wonder if my phone is really a defected one.
Best review I've seen of the nexus 4
So this or the S3??

I would buy this device but it's pretty hard considering this thing sells out right away every time another batch comes out!

I guess we waited to much for this review phonearena ?!!!!!!!!,

why didnt you talk about its wireless charger?
They can do that anyway unless you have a password. If you have a password or a pattern on the screen i don't think you can use the widgets
