- PhoneArena reviews the Google Nexus S. Knowing that Google would only learn from its mistakes, it's come back strong in announcing the Google Nexus S which is being manufactured by Samsung. Sporting a new maker and sales process, the Google Nexus S employs some new technology under the hood and a stock Android experience that's untainted, virgin, and unadulterated to truly showboat the open platform... Man I loved this phone back in the day. Flashed so many roms.
This was my dream phone. Unfortunately I never got it but I did get the Galaxy Nexus and that was my baby. Rooted with custom Roms AND a custom Kernel. Good ol days.
I had both and each had great memories. But I remember the Galaxy Nexus being so fucking cool at the time lol
This thing was IT back then. It was the DOPE and the SHIT. Well now it's literally shit.
LOOK AT THE SPECS. I have handled old computers, old smartphones, new computers, and new smartphones but at least 5 year old smartphones are obsolete. Yes, you can try to revive it but you are going to wait for it to load some stuff because it's gonna be slow but the feeling of handling it is kinda nice.
It was my first android phone😍😘
@Brodgeezy In order to get to the task manager help u need to press a button from the 4 ones under the screen...one of them has 4 parallel lines (second from the left side as u look at it)...If u press that, 6 options will appear on your screen. The top one in the middle of the 3 rows is the task manager which is originally called: Manage apps on google nexus S...
@Seby iuga. the wallpaper is called"microbes". The only way I know to get it is by downloading it as an apk file. Go to the Google play store, download apk installer, then go to the web, Google "microbes live wallpaper apk", find a download link, let it download. One the downloads complete, click on the notification that says download is complete, install it, and you have the live wallpaper in your live wallpaper listing.
@BlazedHearts I don't know about the price, but the new Nexus Prime is made by Samsung, not HTC
Thanks for the detailed review :)
This phone is unlocked by default by google/samsung. but in videos about unboxing/first impressiones etc, everywhere its mentioned 3G with T-Mobile & 2/2.5G with AT&T.
Can you confirm whether it works with any GSM provider worldwide?
I have purchased a Google Nexus S. Its in shipping right now. Wanted to confirm whether it'll work seamlessly with any GSM provider in any part of the world.
Reply is deeply appreciated :)
@BlazedHearts Why dont you wait a couple of weeks and get the nexus prime? the newer google phone generation and compare then?
Can you take pictures with the front facing camera, or is it for video calling only?
I'm thinking about buying this phone but got one question about the batterylife. If it's on "standby" most of the time, how long will the battery last?
@galaxyapps Is there a ICS update for it or did you have to flash it? Im looking at getting one but want to know if it will run ICS smoothley.
Just got the Google Nexus S today! So far so good. Oh and I have Jelly Bean!
@PhoneArena is this phone still good and can you change the background image. Is it still a nice phone compared to the Samsung galaxy Google.
dude that wallpaper at the beginning, does that come with the nexus s or did you get it online?
I need an advise, or an opinion. So pleas answer.
Should i buy the Nexus S (i9023 - SLCD) for 270€ on a 2 year contract.
Or wait for the Nexus 3 to come out?
Currently i own nokia E71.
should i get this or the galaxy S II ?
Oh and why don't any of the phone shops i go to don't have the nexus S or don't even know what phone it is?
This is a lot better than I expected for an Android device from 5 years ago
Where did you get that first wallpaper shown on the phone please tell me
Should I get this on AT&T or get the atrix or sgs2 or wait for the iPhone 5?
@jez205 did you get the camera zoom capability in ICS update?
Im a long time apple and BlackBerry user an im thinking to go with android. Thinking to get this one, any suggestion. my budget is around $200. With the phone i dont usually use 3g, 4g, lte. more of a WIFI guy,
does anyone know when there will be a new version of this phone?
I want to get one but I feel like it'll be a little out of date when the iphone 5 comes out.
Just a question would a 4g cim card work on this phone and is it icecreamsandwich upgradeable????
thinking which to get a blackberry curve 9300 or a Nexus S from Google? Any advice?
Thanks for the review! Love the animated wallpapers! 07:57 - I`m not too bothered about having a poor camera on my phone. I have nikon d700 to take photos .
@MrHaxx1 How adversely is the battery life affected?
In this era of dual core phones with gigs of ram,is the nexus s still worth getting?
Hi there, listen Im selling my Blackberry Bold 9900 this upcoming Sat, and will be getting the Nexus S 4 G. Now Im not a computer guy so this phone will be more than enough for me. My 9900 froze on me a couple of times, so now Im saying goodbye to Blackberry. Now is it really a 4 G phone or no?
But one thing I know is that its alot better than the I Phone 4 in a few ways right.
let me know and thanks!!
Mike from Canada
At 03:39 "...When you're scrolling along long lists and when you get to the bottom it has that green glow to it" he says while showing us the orange glow :)
is this phone very solid ?? and just long liver phone?
@OhArv15 it depends on what you wan/t. the optimus 2 x is dual core and is able to use 4G data speeds, while the nexus S is only single core and can only use 3G dataspeeds. if you want to be future-proof, then go with with the optimus 2x, because by the end of this year/early next year, 4G and dual core smartphones will be the standard, and your phone won't be "outdated". but, if you don't care about that kind of stuff and just want something that works decent, then go for the nexus s.
HELP ME ! I don't know which one I shall choose: Nexus S or HTC Sensation?
Nexus S: I like the design and it gets fast updates by Google, and no SAmoled screen in NL
HTC Sensation: also nice design, but it's faster , better camera , but slower updates.
HTC Sensation is also €100 more.. is it worth it?.
y is it called google nexus s? is it made by google or because of some other reason please tell me?
what does the S in Nexus S stand for? I think it might be for Samsung but I'm not entirely sure. Also, who thinks there should be a Nexus Slide? Basically the Nexus S with a sliding keyboard.
can you take pics with the front camera?
Should I get the Nexus S or the Samsung Epic 4G? My upgrade is soon and i cant decide.
I like hoe the Nexus S looks and gets faster updates but the like the Samsung Epic 4G app menu looks and the slide out keyboard.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what phone should i get. Htc trophy 7 or this phone nexus s ? please reply
Got this phone yesterday. I instantly flashed MIUI and overclocked it to 1.4 GHz and it's now so fucking fast. I definitely recommend this phone.
do the buttons under the screen light up?
Does this phone have a LED indicator for notifications?
Does it have a camera zoom? I didn't find it.
@Prostreetcrazy
i changed back from HTC Desire HD to Galaxy S, also heard that 2.3 will be out around in the first Q1 next year.
Galaxy S does have better pictures in the light (compared to both nexus S and DHD) but lacks flash.
however I like the 720p mode on the SGS, and the fast calling/text features of TW 3.0
should i get the nexus s or the nexus one?
@Richardhuang70 i had the same question. i think i will get the nexus because of the future android updates but the vodaphone version of nexus s does not have the AMOLED display aswell. Therefore when looking at the nexus S we miss out on the AMOLED, 720P recording and expandable memory. The Expandable memory is not a big deal but i do care about the Amoled and the 720p recording. Other than that they are pretty much the same phones.
@CAC1291 What do you recommend?
@emdu9 is it worth it even though it only has 3G and no 4G support? i really like to know!!! Please help...only few hours left in the day! lol
Can't wait to get this phone next month!
does it have a front facing camera?
what is the live wallpaper called?
can you buy this phone with an at&t carier?
so phone arena is in new york?
What is that live wallpaper on 02:47?
Whats the live wallpaper?
Nice phone. Only drawbacks are no hd video recording. And poorly lit capacitive buttons. As for the easily scratchable back cover, a case should do the trick.
@PhoneArena is there MB init?
I am still using this phone, been almost 4 years already :O
5 years you mean it's made n 2010
+Nathan Cornett (Nate The Great) I am using it right now ;)
+Nathan Cornett (Nate The Great) Was looking to buy my friend's note 4, but he doesn't want to get rid of it yet and I am to busy playing halo onl!n3 :)
Thinking whether to get this or a htc desire hd :/
How do u get to the task manager help
@nyle123nyle this does not work with 4g unless you get the nexus s 4g sprint, and yes the update will be coming soon
do u use a green screen?
does google nexus s support video calling
the curve is to prevent the screen from scratches i believe
Lol I have one of these. Things a fossil now.
@chickennugget601 it does stand for samsung, and the Epic 4G is pretty much what you described
3 years with this phone, after many drops, two swings across the room, still runs temple runs just fine, and that's all that matter. Only one problem is that its low on ram, it will lagg if you have too many widgets set up, or ram eating apps that must runs all the time.
I agree but that was on the SGS running slimkat
This is probably one of the fastest android phones out. Latest version of android, best current single core chipset and 4" super amoled screen. I can look over it not having 720p video resolution. We know tshe hardware can do it anyway, its a galaxy s. The video quality is still nice for a phone and looks better than some phones that are 720p.
Hey @PrinceT300 where can u get the phone for free??
What is better? Nexus S or Samsung Galaxy S captivate
Plzzz help me
does this have a glass screen?
I have this phone and needs a bigger battery if ur a heavy user like me
@PhoneArena is gps free?
@BlazesHearts
I don't have an android phone, but I'm pretty sure u can move that goggle search bar anywhere u want, or delete it altogether.
And yeah to be honest this phone just seems like a very polished galaxy s. It's up to u, def not a bad choice.
Does anyone know if I should get this or the LG Optimus 2X?
Just got this phone yesterday& luv it!
Does anyone know the what live wallpaper is enabled I want it.
Yeah I know I should wait, but this is the only person who has responded to my add to buy the 9900 Bold. Im affraid if I tell him to wait another week then he might go else where.
Im in Canada with Telus, and on their webb site it says that the Samsung 2 Galaxy is coming soon. Soon when I dont know, so either I buy the Nexus, and not put on minutes and then exchange it in within 14 days if the other one comes, but what if it takes 21 more days to come. Then what!!
what is the price
Tell me why it sucks. I was planning to buy one. In a budget of 250€ what u guys think its the best one in market ?
@MizzMarley kind of..you have to buy it unlocked but if you have an At&t sim cardit will work fine, now it wont run 3G but will run on edge perfectly!
PS(if you have the At&t "dumbphone data plan you can use that with this phone and use unlimited data on this phone for the $10 price instead of $25 2GB smartphone plan)
I thought the Nexus S had LCD/TFT screen, not AMOLED like the newer Nexus
whats that wall papper ???
What is this wallpaper?
@ASCAB Some Nexus S had Super-LCD and some are Super Amoled
How much is this Google Nexus S ?
This takes me back. Wow
This or Htc trophy or samsung omnia 7 ?
@Carlodimaximus @footyspoak Thanks for the compliments.....I strive to provide everyone an in-depth analysis.
@rotweilerc67 Yes; This phone can connect to wifi, so you can get on the internet without using your cellular data. As soon as you lose that wifi connnection, your cellular data will activate and you will use your credit if you get onto the internet. 2g and 3g are types of cellular data. The only difference is that 3G is faster than 2G. So if you're browsing the web using 3G, everything will load much faster than if you were using 2G.
desire hd or this?
@cornelito88 Nexus S is rated to do 720p video @ 30fps according to the official specs, same as the Galaxy S. The Nexus S gets a bit more talk time from the battery than the Galaxy S. The Nexus S is more compact than the Galaxy S. Other than that, yes they are comparable devices. It's really based on personal preference. I personally prefer the design of the Nexus S better than the galaxy. I can do without v3 bluetooth and an sd card slot.
does it have swype
i just baught it today, but it has a white back with small "dots" that make the back rough
I'm probably gonna get one of these. Because on eBay it's quite a budget phone, and Google is still giving it some legitimate updates without needed to root it :p
One of sexiest hand held device ever .There was choice between this and galaxy S. I choosed this and its totally worth it. And i was the showstopper in college holding this back then. hahaha
Xperia Play Or Nexus S?
does this phone have Swype?
I'm Using The Nexus 7 2013
Just Text do u mean 2012?
@shnunk1 Well, the overclock took pretty hard on the battery. Stock clock is better, because there really isn't a lot of difference, unless you are gaming. But MIUI - or better yet - CM7 (soon to be CM9) does increase the battery life a lot. If you use a good kernel with deep idle (google it) and various other tweaks, I could get 3 days of battery out of it, with a little texting and a little bit of internet browsing.
Usually I go 2 days on a single charge.
I hope that answered your question.
i neeed to know that wallpaper
