- PhoneArena reviews the Motorola ATRIX 4G. Not only is the Motorola ATRIX 4G the first truly respectable offering from Motorola's camp for AT&T, but it's gunning to position itself as the best smartphone device in its class amongst the carrier's lineup. Naturally, there are plenty of goodies strapped in for the ride. But it's taking things into new territories that haven't been explored yet. But in the end, will these new ventures actually transition to something that consumers want?...

Here in late 2020! This phone was given to me by my mother in 2011/2012 when her contract ended. I wish I still had it. Looking back now it’s laughable but this phone was amazing back then. I was in middle school and even kids with iPhones thought it was pretty cool at the time. This brings back so much nostalgia.
i still have this phone and its still working great
i loved this phone at first. But I had so many problems with it. I went through 4 replacements in my 2 year contract and the phone was practically on life support by the time I upgraded
This was the first phone with a fingerprint scanner in case you didn't know
Yes. And it worked perfectly :)
I am buying mine Saturday! I CANNOT WAIT TO HAVE IT!:D
I have watched this video 8 times!
very very good review. thank you, just waitin for mine in the mail :) i think your review put me over the edge to get this phone!
Great review. Shows everything that I needed to know. I'm planning on buying this soon. Thanks.
great review man Thanks! i love how you pronounce Multimedia :)
Warning for those who actually decide to get this phone. This phone is poorly made and eventually the wifi will not work. There is a huge thread in the motorola forums with customers complaining about it. Do Not Get This Phone. You have been warned.
I bought it today! I'm waiting for it to be delivered to me! :D I'm so happy! lol
incredible phone !! awesome and detailed review !! best atrix review so far !!
I've been using MotoBlur on my Moto Defy for 3 months now and I really like it actually.
For those interested: This 15-minute review of a SMARTPHONE only had 30 seconds worth of browser action -flash performance not included. It showed choppy pinch-to-zoom action and stuttering scrolling that is nowhere close to GPU accelerated performance.
There IS a notification LED. Very nice, and something I missed on my previous phone, the Samsung Captivate. The screen does not have the incredible inky blacks and vivid colors on the Super AMOLED display of the Captivate, nor does it have the great clarity and detail of the iPhone 4 display, but it is still a very nice display and I LOVE the higher resolution screen (something AMOLED technology can't duplicate for some reason). I've owned a few phones, and I really like the ATRIX.
isn't the static background noise dependent on the service provider? In other reviews I read/heard the quality is great.
The finger print reader is pretty sick. Friend got one the other day and it works has a great feel. Really surprised me and if your wondering if you cut your finger or something you use a security code to enter.
The weird thing is ive had this phone for over a year already and its still good... fist dual core phone out there i think.
I would have liked to have seen more information on the finger print security. Otherwise what I think really makes this phone elite is the way it docks with a TV.
Gettin this phone soon! Can't wait ; )
After the Motorola Razor i never really got the urge to turn my head to them but this phone makes me all giddy, even though im a bit late at looking at it.
i had this device and this WAS A BEAST.
Cyanogenmod is going to breath a lot of life into this phone for people who haven't abandoned it for the Galaxy S II.
trust me guys.... i have motorola atrix 4G nd its amazing.... i think a whole world in small computer in my hand... gr8 experience, gr8r speed, superb functionality, i think no wors for this product of motorola.......
Good review. If you need to do a hard reset for the Motorola Atrix check out
How To Hard Reset A Motorola Atrix 4G Smartphone
- It has en effective resolution less than WVGA, without SAMOLED contrasts to make up for it.
- Colors are washed out thanks to the RGBW grid.
- GPU is not used to accelerate browser or UI.
- It won't get Ice Cream before Q4 2011.
I'm buying the Nexus S.
@JustMeDustin You may reconsider that when you actually handle the phone. I myself thought I was sold on this device but after actually testing it in person I was saving myself for another phone. Motoblur on this phone is horrible, it really ruins your experience. The screen is also very high resolution so you have to squint to view certain things. Also, the keyboard was small on the screen. It only took up half the screen, whereas on HTC phones it takes up more like 3/4 of the way.
@MaTTheMonkeyMan i forgot that the phone is only available at AT&T in the states. the phone is not limited to a specific provider here in europe.
Thinking about getting this phone.
Great review thanks!!!
@PhoneArena how much space do you get for installing applications out of the 16 GB?
ok i just ordered this phone online and i'd like to know, is it able to use the webtop feature on my plasma with just the regular hdmi cord that it comes with or do i have to purchase the multimedia doc?
Definitely my next phone. Prob switch over to Bell just for it. And the better service than Rogers.
@TheMusiclover1020 Does the inspire lagg alot?, i'm thinking about getting it :o
Laptop Dock Accessory!! Impressive :) Now all they need is a Android application like word, excel, power-point and other office tools on the Moto ATRIX for on the go :) 0.o
@Benc1213 maybe. but you would think they would still use something other then one of googles competitors right?
sweetest phone ive seen for 2011 thus far!
Which ROM's are available for this phone?? Really impressing
very excellent review..kudos
Good review man
@Hawky414 it depends on your budget. They're both great phones and well to be honest it seems the arc s doesn't have many more features that the atrix, and its nearly double the price. I would recommend the AAtrix.
Can you get this at the AT&T store because its not on the web site or bestbuy.com
apparently the call quality is amazing for bell with the atrix in canada
dang how good is it everyone? mine is on its way in the mail should be here around thursday or friday. im sooooo excited i can finally get rid of this old iphone!
How much does iPhone cost in the US? Because in sweden it costs about 400 usd. Does it cost that much in the US too? So I have something to compare pricing between this and the iPhone... :)
@toydigger I'm deciding the same thing, minus the laptop. I think you should honestly roll with the galaxy, this phone is really expensive and they basically have the same features. There's no point in getting this phone if you're only going to need a laptop for school purposes.
The tv hookup loooks great though
10:20 thats like continuum on windows phone
Phonearena's review of this Phone is way better than phonedog's.
@ComradeNF does not...and LTE i dont think will release till late 2011 so its kinda a long wait
Good review.
I'm hoping to this phone in the next week or so... Taking it to metro for $40 a month
Lakasha Booker 40 a month. That's expensive
@Hawky414
this one is dualcore and nvidia graphix, xperia is single core.
what do u mean? u mean after a day of usage?
@minimeq download chrome or opera, u're not restricted w/ wat u initially get
damn, I really like the fingerprint scanner. I also think the dock thing is cool. I have HDMI mirroring on my Evo even, so I'm not THAT impressed. Trouble is, otherwise I think it is slightly lacking compared to the Nexus S2 4G (Sprint)... plus, Sprint's 4G is faster than AT&T's, and costs less. The screen is certainly better on the Samsung, as to be expected, it is lighter and thinner. Has a dual core 1.2 ghz A9 processor too. Atrix is nice, but not worth it.
Great phone, but Froyo isn't optimized for dual-core phones and Motorola got a bad reputation on after market support. Also, LCD screen is a big letdown. :/
@TheMusiclover1020 Actually the phone used to be very laggy and since had that terrible motoblur it was not worth a buy. But now, with the gingerbread update along with the new Motorola Applications Platform, the phone is blazing fast and is well worth the 99.99
My first smartphone!!!
+jawbraker84 was the fingerprint scanner good?
Me tooo!!!
you havent mentioned that you charge the phone when you put it in the netbook...
0.3mp front cam? is that correct? cuz thats insanely low, compared to my droid 3s 1.3mp cam
@Mikeyvesagas You should have gone to AT&T they are running a special on it right now.
how long is the HDMI cable wire? its would be cool if its wireless
should i get this or the xperia arc s? i cant decide
Can this smartphone stream a radio station straight from that web site using supported Flash 10.1 ?
I have this phone is its the best thing ever!
Imagine still sing this lmao
Right? Lol. It was an okay phone at the time but it never appealed to me tbh
I have one and I love it.
I'm watching this on MY motorola ATRIX 4G. LOL
@Jer0meLey
i would love to buy s2 too, but the price tag is just too high
below 500 this price range, im thinking either atrix(dual core entry) neo or ip4(single core highend)
I love dis phone am going to get one
Mine comes tomorrow :)
Good review, good phone
its a very good phone but i wouldnt recommend to get it now. there is gonna be others comin out later this year so have patience guys
My first Android phone, it was better than the original iPhone.
is this phone like the motorola defy is it dust proof?
@jackfrost3821 Correction: Motoblur ALREADY ruined this phone. I love its widgets, but that's about it.
Still better than the iPhone
So it does everything brilliantly, other than a nice clean call quality....
Holy shit, I just want a phone!
@bbalfour please elaborate for me. i plan on getting this phone and i currently have the backflip, another motoblur phone and i hate it. help?
whats the name of the live wallpaper the firts one with the rain my phone its doesn came with that
Anyone else realize the blockbuster preinstalled app?? Haha good times
@mkchillin I would recommend not getting this phone. It has motoblur which is terrible. By far the best overlay I have experienced is the HTC Sense (which you can find the newest version on the HTC Inspire). Or I would wait for the galaxy s II or Infuse 4G. In all honesty, I ran quadrant on this phone 5 times and consistently got the same performance as the HTC Inspire. I would recommend that if you need a good phone for $100 and right now.
this reveiw just kept on going and dont think the words "flaws" exists on this phone haha :P
I thinking about buying this unlock from Amazon so I can use it on T-Mobile.
How much does this one cost in Hong Kong?
Gorgeous
What's the name of the movie at 7:46 ?
grerat review!
@hardoninseattle I wouldn't. Or at least not through at&t. You will be forced to pay $45 a month and still be limited to only 4 GB of bandwidth.
but...it will blend?
You lookin to sell that pokemon red version? Lol
the reason why the battery is of such a large capacity (1930 mAh) is because nVidia's Tegra 2 is an INEFFICIENT and POWER HUNGRY platform i.e. nothing to brag about ;) save your money and wait for intel's or Qualcomm's dual-core SoC platform if you are looking for high performance
Soo this or the galaxy s II ??
i want this so bad
I hate the way the blur is on the ATRIX the newest version is pretty cool. It gets rid of those ghey 3 bottom icons.
@bbalfour whats launcherpro?
Should have got this phone,I got the Inspire.
@ComradeNF I heard it doesnt support LTE...
The old Blur looks cartoony? What about the current Touch wiz ?? Its twice as bad
