    Dude thank you. After a few outrageous quotes i decided to give it a try. I build furniture cannot work on a car. 15 min both lights the metal clasp was my biggest obstacle. Listen the only reason im commenting is i flat out could not afford a mechanic to do it nor could i afford a ticket. You saved a stranger and im sure im not the only one. You sir Rock !

      F*cking rip off artists charging you an arm and leg for a relatively quick and simple bulb change, even if they mess with a clasp for 15 minutes

    This video was so helpful. I'm a 60 yr old woman and was able to replace the bulb myself. These bulbs go out quite often and have been paying $99 every time I took it to the dealership. I only paid $23 for the bulb and it took me roughly 45 min start to finish to replace the bulb myself. I was able to replace it from under the hood instead of going through the wheel well. Thank you for your helpful video!😁

    Update: I was able to replace my headlight the second time around much more easily thanks to your video. No loosening that screw this time. Seeing how that gate worked was key. It took a LOT of pressure to unclip that thing on mine ... using a glove made it less painful. To clarify even more for those first-timers: you need to push in (toward the front of the car) very firmly and then down to unlatch it. And the lower half of the clip is the only one that latches ... no need to worry about pushing anything on the upper part of the clip. Also, I'd replace both bulbs at the same time. I only replaced one and then the other one went out shortly after that and then my new one blew again. So I ended up replacing my driver side twice in about a month. I never worried much about keeping headlights as a "matched set" but I think I'll try to do that from now on.

    For those who went to LED like I did for my mom’s car to avoid changing you can remove the circle clip around the low beam and put it in and shut the door clip and put the light back in the circle clip and lock it back. Lot of research time in this trick.

    Instructions for metal clip - hardest part.
    Take the mudguard off partially - my cx7 had little metal push pins you can lever with Flathead screwdriver.
    Reach in, unplug cable by pulling straight back, remove rubber dust cover.
    On bottom left part of clip, push hard towards front of car and down. It will unclip.
    Replace bulb.
    To put clip back on, stand over engine bay. Squeeze hand past fuse box on LHS (take lid off), grab clip and firmly push in and slightly down on bottom bit.
    The key is the bit at the bottom - opposite where it hinges. This is where the catch is.

    Nice video. I couldn't get that stupid hinge to release when I did mine and ended up loosening the little Phillips screw that actually holds the gate in place (on the other side of the clip than you released in the vid). I wanted to make sure that I didn't break it as others have mentioned and luckily, that worked. The whole clip just comes off that way. However, it's a beast to get back into place again, given the limited area to work with your hands while still trying to see it. Just a really lousy design.

    • @ChadWilliamsFixesAll
      @ChadWilliamsFixesAll  5 лет назад

      I did the exact same thing the first time I did my headlight change. Easy to get that screw out, but a pain to get it back in with the hinge. Very stupid design but glad you got yours done too! Thank you for watching!

    I want to add that if you did touch the new bulb with your skin, you want to remove the aforementioned oils with some alcohol and a tissue. Alcohol dissolves oils, so just before installation, do clean the bulb with alcohol. I did so twice and my bulbs are in a good shape :)
    ye, the most pain is that wire that locks the bulb in its place. Annoying to operate. After you get it, however, it's a lot easier. Mazda's manual describes the mechanism but extremely poorly. It's like they actually want drivers to pay ridiculous money in the dealerships to do the trick. Anyhow. Thanks, great vid.

    What type of bulb does the Mazda use ?

  • @Dentropolis
    @Dentropolis 4 года назад

    There are other videos that show that clip action better. In words, press the rounded loop part of the clip down towards the light housing, towards the front of the car. Once this is done the clip clears the hook into which the clip hooks. So while continuing to press on this clip push the clip towards the ring of the light housing. The clip and light etc is in a ring of plastic. So while pushing the clip down as explained earlier push it toward the inner circumference of the ring in which it all resides. Then the clip will be free of the hook and should then swing free of the housing as on a hinge and allow the bulb to be removed. After putting in new bulb properly swing clip back in place, press in (towards front of car) and this time then press towards inside of circle. The clip should find the little latch hook and it should stay in place. All this would easily be done if you could see it all better for sure. Don’t use a tool to help you do this. You could easily break the plastic clip housing.

      I never figured it out :( only thing that ever helped was installing HID headlights. I ran them for like 2 years, never burned a bulb with them.

    Is this just for low beams? What bulb for high beams?

    • @ChadWilliamsFixesAll

      I am pretty sure the low beams and high beams is one bulb, but I can't validate as we don't own the vehicle anymore :(

    What they designed this so you have to take it to a garage.. omg.. i did do this 1st time just got this vehicle . It is a real pain. Then i find out the assembly on one of my lights where it clips to is broken. I just slid the sleeve on and stuck it in. Hopefully good enough.

    The bulbs in my burn out so often. Worst car to change them in this constantly

    Question, we replaced the lights a few years back and then discovered that they are angled outwards. How did this happen and how do I fix it?

    • @ChadWilliamsFixesAll
      @ChadWilliamsFixesAll  3 года назад +1

      You might now have put them in their slots. They have little prongs that go into slots. Double check that is the first thing I would do.

    This was a PAIN IN THE TUSHY! I was a bit irritated before I started. Your video helped with the irritation. The rest is gonna take cream. Darn there hides for designing such system.

    Thanx for the information. I got it done but it wasn't easy. What a horrible design. I think they make it complicated on purpose so you give up and take it to a dealer.

    • @ChadWilliamsFixesAll

      You are welcome! From what I heard, it can cost around $150 to do a headlight change on these vehicles. Absolutely crazy! Glad you got it done though!

    Good video but next time I have to change those bulbs I won't need an instructional video, just a sledge hammer... to release all the stress, you know?!
    Stupid design from hell Mazda !!!

    Absolutely the worst design, had to do this twice (per side) in like 4 years band is a real nightmare especially the first time you do it. I feel a rubber glove is a must to avoid a dirty scraped up hand.
